Geno President of the best Abate Chapter in Florida Daytona Beach Abate of Florida Inc. daytona.abateflorida.com abateflorida.com VP MESSGE I hope everyone is enjoying the summer down here in Florida, we're deep into the rainy season and the heat is cranked up high as we move into hurricane season. We sure don't need another one like last year. With the heat as high as it is it is important to remember that thanks to the hard work and dedication of those that came before us (and some that are still here) that we have the choice to ride with or without a helmet and with the effort put in by everyone this year we will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Also we got the news that out $4,000 accidental life and dismemberment insurance that is given to us when we are active ABATE members is going to continue, new cards should be mailed soon, take the time to fill them out and send them in. You will be contacted by the American Income Life Insurance Company, they have some very good programs and have paid out in excess of $160,000 to ABATE of Florida members so far. I hope to see everyone at our next meeting Aug 3rd at the Eagles on Nova Rd in Ormond Beach. Looking forward to seeing you all out on the road!!!till next month, Ride SAFE and Smart!!!! Thank you, Alfy Vice President Daytona Beach ChapterABATE of Florida, Inc

4 Daytona Beach Chapter Chapter Meeting July 6, 2017 Fraternal Order of Eagles 7:30 p.m. President:. Geno Talked about the State Meeting in June. There was an issue with the $ accidental life insurance policy that is given to each Member for free. That issue is resolved and we will continue to get that policy. Jerry T is now the State lawyer. Interstate Chapter is closing down. There is a new chapter that is asking for permission to form, North Orlando Chapter and sounds like they have a lot of sport bikers to join. The State has asked that every chapter give the State 10% of their chapter finances to help the State. There was discussion of different amounts to give but Steve Fritze made the motion we give 10% and Kathy Holland seconded the motion. The State Products office is looking for someone to take over. Adam Putnam is running for Governor and likes bikers. The State Party to be held Nov. 3-5th at Peave River. VP: Alfy said the reason for the insurance issue is that the State kept our insurance card information therefore the insurance company did not have our info to contact us. This year, all cards will go directly to the insurance company. Secretary: Kathy H. Geno took minutes and stated that last month s minutes were printed in the newsletter. Motion made to accept minutes as printed. Motion passed. Treasurer: John: Reported Chapter finances. Motion made to accept report as reported. Mo- tion passed. Sgt. At Arms Tim said he has nothing at this time Membership: Steve said 1 renewal for July so far. Products: We have products here at the Eagles. Legislative: See John s report in the newsletter. Newsletter: We have some newsletters here at the meeting and it was uploaded to the chapter website. PR Communications: Ken absent Safety: Mike Knezevich spoke about a PA ABATE that has a flyer out for a party/run and says no colors. Some Chapter members are concerned that if PA does it, it could trickle down to Florida. We have told these members, that will not be the case. Webmistress: Kathy Old Business: None New Business: None Good of the Order: Mongals party Mongols MC, Southend Chapter Dog Day of Summer Party August 26th at their Edgewater Clubhouse gun tickets for sale 50/50 Brad Shaeffer Meeting adjourned : 8:30

9 Legislative Report July 18, 2017 John Banta Out of date as soon as I write it Go on to the ABATE of Florida Website Click on the Legislative Information Center and subscribe to list. Ideally you would get the latest legislative news and press releases. Contact the State Legislative Trustee, Darrin Brooks, to get on his list for alerts when bills are in committee. He sends news reports of legislative activities on a myriad of topics, not necessarily those that ABATE is involved in. He also subscribes to a pricey news service which delivers news from Tallahassee before you read it in the newspaper. Consider signing in to the ( MRF or AMA alerts Tallahassee committees start in September. Session starts Jan 9, At issue is will the doctors find a representative AND senator to introduce a mandatory motorcycle helmet bill in Florida? I am amazed at the complacency of motorcyclists. The number of motorcyclists contacting their legislators about mandatory helmets was light. Look at our membership numbers. ABATE will be hard press to stop this. The legislature has certain issues they want to deal with. Many ideas take a few sessions. A rework of the motor vehicle insurance laws will happen. Last session it almost got through. Expect the liability insurance loophole for motorcycles to disappear. Scribe has been posting the candidates for the 2018 election. The amount of money being raised is staggering. People are jumping in (and soon will be jumping out). Putnam is a Republican front runner for Governor and was an ABATE supporter when he was a legislator. Thunder Roads Magazine Tennessee received an NCOM award. Maybe that will encourage Thunder Roads Magazine Florida to step up. WASHINGTON, DC Congress will recess the last two weeks of August. S.203 HR.350 Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2017 (RPM Act).. These bills ensure that transforming motor vehicles, including motorcycles, into race cars or racing bikes used exclusively in competition does not violate the Clean Air Act. Contact Ron DeSantis, he should be a co-sponsor, Sen. Rubio and Nelson are among the co-sponsors of the Senate bill. Ethanol Darrin has sent out News from the AMA showing the approved warning signs for E15 on blender pumps and examples of improper labeling. I just came back from a cross country vacation and you better be aware of which fuel you press. HR1314 Renewable Fuel Standard Elimination Act Rep. Goodlatte Eliminates Renewable Fuel Standard in the Clean Air Act that sets progressive minimum volumes of renewable fuel to be on the marketplace. Rep. Ron DeSantis is a co-sponsor HR1315 RFS Reform Act of 2017 Rep. Goodlatte 47 co-sponsors Caps blending to the current of 10% HR119 Leave Ethanol Volumes at Existing Levels Act or the LEVEL Act Rep. Burgess see Hr1314, this bill has no co-sponsors Profiling. H.Res.318. Promoting awareness of motorcycle profiling and encouraging collaboration and communication with the motorcycle community and law enforcement officials to prevent instances of profiling. Sponsored by Rep Walberg. This was printed in the May report. Note the registration numbers in the resolution ( , 2017).
10 es.154 A resolution promoting awareness of motorcycle profiling and encouraging collaboration and communication with the motorcycle community and law enforcement officials to prevent instances of profiling. This is almost identical to H.Res.318 and is sponsored by Sen. Johnson. From the MRF June 30, RIDING FREE FROM DC These letters and communications help get us there. You ve heard me say it before the squeaky wheel gets the grease. So, take 2 minutes out of your day, and send a letter to your lawmaker. Right now, on our website you can send letters to your elected officials on profiling, the RPM Act and the Texas decision to slash motorcycle safety funding. And all it takes is a few minutes. So bottom line NO EXCUSES and start squeaking. Okay I went to the MRF website. It s very simple to send a message about the profiling bills or RPM Act. However WHATS the message? I am more prone to send my own message. I have not seen any talking points on profiling similar to our rejection of mandatory motorcycle helmet laws and our concerns about the introduction of E15. For profiling you will need to see the alerts from the Motorcycle Profiling Project. On the second Saturday of August is the State meeting in Clermont. The delegation is likely to provide input on what type of legislation we want. Expect another quest to get funding for motorcycle safety and awareness, which the governor will veto, and stiffer penalties for those who injure motorcyclists. The mood of the transportation committees (and legislators in general) is enough of enhanced penalties (unless it is for drugs). There are certain issues key legislators want to address and will be unconcerned with advancing other new ideas. Those priorities have not been identified. 11 As you know, last month both the House and Senate introduced legislation addressing motorcycle profiling. H.Res318 and S.Res.154 both define motorcycle profiling and urge states to implement practices to address this issue and condemn it. In order to advance these measures, we need more legislators to sign on! Currently the following Members of Congress are sponsors of these bills: Rep. Walberg, Tim [R-MI] Rep. Pocan, Mark [D-WI-2]* Rep. Burgess, Michael C. [R-TX-26]* Rep. Peterson, Collin C. [D-MN-7]* Rep. LaHood, Darin [R-IL-18] Rep. Grothman, Glenn [R-WI-6] Rep. Nolan, Richard M. [D-MN-8] Rep. Zeldin, Lee M. [R-NY-1] Rep. Thompson, Glenn [R-PA-5] Rep. Brownley, Julia [D-CA-26] Senator Ron Johnson [R-WI] Senator Jeanne Shaheen [D-NH] Senator Angus King [I-Maine] Please use the following link to send a pre-drafted letter to your elected officials asking them to sign on! It takes about 1 minute and will help us achieve our goal!! Stop Motorcycle Profiling! - CQRC Engage cqrcengage.com Increasingly, motorcyclists report feeling singled out by law enforcement officials because of their appearance, apparel, or just because they ride a motorcycle.
