2 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Wow! What a difference a month makes! Since my last report..we've been through one of the strongest hurricanes on record. We had to cancel last months meeting because it was on the eve of the storm and everyone was preparing for the worst. I'm happy to say I was pretty lucky compared to the rest of my town of Flagler Beach with over a half dozen mature trees down and a few tons of debris scattered across 5 acres but no damage to the house. The state meeting and the state fall party was Saturday, the next day after the devastation. I talked to the state president and vice president and we were excused as a chapter without being penalized. As far as I know, the party went on as it was further inland but I didn't here if it was a success or not. I'll try to find out before our next meeting and also see if I can get the minutes of the state meeting also so we know what's the latest and greatest. The following week we had Biketoberfest. To be expected given the circumstances..there were hotels and restaurants/bars that were damaged and not open. I heard tne number of visitors were down also as to be expected. I was on Main Street and at the Iron Horse and Beaver Bar to name a few and it was business as usual. Next month we have the Christmas run to the Daytona Rehab Center and hopefully we'll know the time and date so we can plan ahead. Daytona.abateflorida.com abateflorida.com VP MESSAGE Wow, talk about a crazy month... with all the damage from Hurricane Matthew I hope everyone came through it well and are recovering with the rest of us, I haven't heard any official report but from what I seen Biketoberfest was way down in numbers but still a lot of fun for the little bit I got out. With our meeting being cancelled last month and non of us were able to go to the State meeting I don't have much to report other than please be safe out there. There has been to many deaths lately from bikes getting run over. The good news is that the weather has cooled a bit and we are coming into the dry season.. 5 LEGISLATIVE REPORT John Banta Out of date as soon as I write it Like many of you, I been slammed with cleanup and dealing with home repairs. Wednesday Oct. 5 th at Ormond Beach City Hall to meet with the candidates running for State offices. The place was boarded up and deserted. Go on to the ABATE of Florida Website Click on the Legislative Information Center and subscribe to list. Ideally you would get the latest legislative news and press releases. Contact the State an contact legislators outside our district. He sends news reports of Legislative Report October 22, 2016 John Banta legislative activities on a myriad of topics, not necessarily those that ABATE is involved in. Consider signing in to the MRF or AMA alerts ( The MRF is involved with monitoring and input on many issues. There is activity on intelligent transportation dealing with driving automation. How well will motorcycles be recognized? Nov. 8 General Elections VOTE!!!!! July, 2016 Registered motorcycles in Volusia County July 16, 2016 Motorcycle license endorsements Motorcyclists could make a difference but are not at their potential. ABATE of Florida cannot endorse candidates. We can report on the voting record and their views on the issues that affect motorcyclists. Our lobbyist, Doc Reichenbach, can say who he likes. The recent NRA voters guide shows no conflict between gun owner s goals and concerns of motorcyclists with those running for State offices from Volusia County County Judge Group 3 Heather Caeners, Shirley Green, Judge Green has withheld adjudications thus circumventing the $500/$1000 fine for those who cause an accident resulting in an injury or death of a motorcyclist.
