Minutes A Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting of the Municipality of Meaford was held at 2:00 PM at the Council Chambers on February 1, 2017 Present: Councillor Jaden Calvert Sandi Gray Erin Shepherd Mary C. Solomon Lynda Stephens (absent) Staff: Margaret Wilton-Siegel, Deputy Clerk Dan Buttineau, Director, Parks, Recreation & Culture (for items 6.1 and 5.3) 1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 2:03 p.m. 2. Moment of Reflection A moment of reflection was taken. 3. Disclosure of Pecuniary Interest and General Nature Thereof None declared. 4. Approval of Minutes 4.1 Approval of Minutes Moved by: Member Solomon Seconded by: Member Gray That the Minutes of the October 26, 2016 meeting of the Accessibility Advisory Committee be approved as presented. Carried 5. Items for Consideration

2 5.1 With consent of the committee, item 5.1 Tour of Meaford all was cancelled. Items 6.1 and 5.3 were moved up on the agenda. 6.1 Meaford all Balcony Project Update The Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture updated the Committee on the balcony project construction which is underway. Seats have been removed and are being sold to the public. Anticipated completion date is end of March. Washrooms were removed due to budgetary constraints and the satellite bar will service needs on the top floor when necessary. Questions included the entrance configuration and regarding accessible washroom availability in Meaford all Tax Supported Capital Projects The Deputy Clerk provided a summary of upcoming tax supported capital projects that have an element relating to accessibility including highlighting several projects where the site review sub-committee may be involved. The Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture provided additional insight into several of the projects. Questions included accessibility options and grant potential of the Market Square Stage Canopy, the option for automatic door openers at the Fire all and at both parks being upgraded and the materials used at playgrounds. 5.2 Design of Public Spaces Regulation - Overview A brief overview of the Design of Public Spaces Regulation was provided. Additional training for municipal staff is expected to be delivered in Accessible Canada Consultation Information on the consultation process regarding an Accessible Canada was provided. 6. Staff Updates 6.1 Mobi Mats Page 1 of 4

3 The Deputy Clerk announced that a grant for a total of $10,100 has been received for accessibility upgrades to David Johnston Park. The grant was received through the Enabling Accessibility Fund and the money will allow the park to include 200 feet of Mobi-Mat RecPaths. 7. Round Table Discussion 7.1 Municipal Website Committee discussed adding additional resources to the municipal Accessibility website that might include information on local resources not limited to municipal specific. Other municipal sites will be reviewed for ideas and layout. 7.2 Community Living A challenge being had by Community Living was mentioned regarding transportation access for clients to load and unload because of obstacles on the sidewalk with a municipal contact provided to speak with. 7.3 Gas Stations in Meaford The Committee discussed the changing gas station providers in Meaford, noting that there is increased competition for the full service station and what impact this may have for people needing the full service station for accessibility reasons. 7.4 Meaford Public Library The Meaford Independent article from November 3, 2016 written by Elaine Burns was distributed. Member Solomon noted her frustration with the current situation regarding access to the Owen Sound North Grey Union Public Library, specifically the priority Council is placing on 'access' for the former Sydenham Township for these library services without recognizing the parallel lack of access for citizens with mobility issues for the Meaford Public Library. 7.5 Committee Comments Page 2 of 4

4 Two other items were noted regarding a lack of streetlighting along ighway 26 between St. Vincent and Valu-Mart as well as the challenge on the main street in getting from the road to sidewalk with the large banks. 7.6 Workplan for 2017 Ideas for priorities in 2017 included defining the awards process, updating the StopGap initiative, continue facility reviews, a focus on improving the accessibility resources on the website, finalizing the Commitment Statement in a plague and developing new training for accessibility. Locations that were suggested for the facility reviews included Memorial Park (summer), arbour ouse and David Johnston park. 8.
