1 THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF BECKWITH COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MINUTES MEETING # The Corporation of the Township of Beckwith held its regular meeting of the Community Development Committee on this 27 th day of November, 2017 at 6:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers, Township Hall, Black s Corners. OPENING OF MEETING Chair Tim Campbell, Councillor called the meeting to order at 6:36 p.m. 1.1 Adoption of the Agenda/ Additions or Deletions None 1.2 Approval of Agenda CD06-17 Moved by: Faye Campbell Seconded by: Brian Dowdall BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the agenda be adopted as presented. 1.3 Adoption of Minutes CD07-17 Moved by: Evelyn Campbell Seconded by: Faye Campbell CARRIED 1

2 BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the minutes of the May 15 th, 2017 Community Development Committee Meeting be approved as printed and circulated. CARRIED 1.4 Declaration of Pecuniary Interest 2. DELEGATIONS 2.1 6:30 p.m. Carleton Place and Beckwith Heritage Museum Stewart Robertson, Treasurer attached on pages 5 8. Mr. Robertson made a presentation to the Community Development Committee seeking funding for 2018 in the amount of $3, Mr. Robertson presented the continued growth of the museum s collection, outreach and in-house traffic, sources of income and uses of income. Mr. Robertson 3. BUSINESS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES 3.1 County Wide Economic Development Strategic Plan 4. BUSINESS The Committee reviewed the minutes and draft action plans from the Lanark County Economic Development Strategic Planning Leadership Team. The Community Development Committee agreed to provide a letter of support to for the Rural Economic Development Fund to complete a County wide Business Retention and Expansion Project. 4.1 Seasonal Beckwith Township Bucket list Staff presented the concept idea of creating a Beckwith Township seasonal bucket list that could be included in the Beckwith Beaver. The bucket list could include Township events, things to do in Beckwith, places to visit and incorporate Beckwith businesses. The Committee approved the bucket list idea and decided to have people submit their names or photos after they complete an item off the list for a chance to win prizes. The Committee will review the list and staff any ideas they would like to see added. 4.2 Seasonal Photo Challenge Staff presented the idea of a seasonal Beckwith photo challenge. The Committee agreed to include a few photo targets for each season in the Beckwith Beaver. Some of the photo targets presented were: Photo of livestock Photo of Beckwith summertime event Enjoying Mississippi Lake A photo representing Beckwith s heritage Enjoying the new splash pad / playground structure Wildlife on the Beckwith trail Sunset view from Beckwith Township 2

3 5. REPORTS 5.1 Heritage Committee Reeve Richard Kidd provided an update on the Beckwith Heritage Committee. The Committee is currently working on a Hamlet and Cemetery driving tour brochure, a historical plaque for the Village of Franktown and artifacts for the One Room School House. Chair Councillor Tim Campbell noted that the Heritage Committee is looking to re-upholster the chairs at the Prospect United Church. Staff informed the Committee that a quote to re-upholster the chairs was received in the amount of $ and could be completed by December 15 th. The Committee directed staff to go ahead and have this work completed before the Christmas Carl event held on December 17 th, Carleton Place & District Chambers of Commerce Reeve Richard Kidd provided an update and overview of the Carleton Place & District Chambers of Commerce including an update of the golf tournament, business awards gala and the business course they have rolled out in the local high schools. 5.3 Events Community Christmas Carols Prospect United Church December 17 th, 2017 New Year s Eve Family Fireworks December 31 st, 2017 Chair Councillor Tim Campbell noted the upcoming events taking place in Beckwith. 5.4 Canada 150 th One Room School House Reeve Richard Kidd informed the Committee that the school house has been moved and erected at Beckwith Park. The goal is to complete the roof before the end of the year. Reeve Kidd noted that a windmill has been donated to the Township by the Drummond Family and been installed at Beckwith Park near the log barns.
