1 The Northern Ohio Chapter of ASSE CONNEX-IT Volume 24, Issue 2 February 2014 NOH CHAPTER OF ASSE UPCOMING EVENTS Feb. 11 th, 2015 ASSE/ASPE Meeting* Topic Sizing tables and friction factors associated with plastic piping system. What is PEX? - David Eoff (Uponor) Mar. 11 th, 2015 ASSE/ASPE Meeting This meeting will be at Great Lakes Brewery and will include a tour of the brewery. *Joint meetings with ASPE are held at Harry s Steak House 5654 Brecksville Rd. (Route 21) in Independence, Ohio. North of Rockside/Snow Rd. * Each Training session starts at 5:00 P.M. with a product show (spaces available) Dinner and session starts at 6:00 P.M. *Cost per person for the training session, product show, networking and dinner is $ *Attendance at these training sessions will result in you receive CEU s. Northern Ohio President s Message Jason Shank President of the Northern Ohio Chapter of ASSE February 3 rd, 2015 Hello All, It s the start of a new month and hopefully the ending of winter by this months end! We will be having and partaking in many events this month that I wish to invite you to attend to see the work the NOH Chapter is doing to promote ASSE s Motto Prevention Rather Than Cure. At the Training Center for Local 55 and CPI (see info inside the newsletter and pictures) this past Saturday we conducted out 19 th Boy Scouts Plumbing Merit Badge program. We also will be offering this same program on Feb. 28 th. Some of the Officers from the Chapter will be traveling to Detroit Mi. to attend the Michigan Chapter s Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet. Lastly the NOH Chapter has been asked by CPI to help instructed a series of Plumbing courses for the Cleveland Engineering Society starting Feb. 18 th. We are very excited about all of these events and hope you check out all of the details of these events in the pages of this newsletter. Review/Approval of Minutes of Dec. 10 th 2014 meeting Motion made by Pat and seconded by Rich for approval - Motion approved 2. Chapter Financial Statements 1. Current totals No new income or expenses Same as last month 2. Need to do Financial info for ASSE Coming from International 3. Reimbursements 1. None brought to the table 4. Committee Reports 1. NOH Bylaw Changes Reviewed-Discussed Motion made by Pat and Ed to approval all changes Motion Approved. Need to send to international 2. Ed reported that Series 6000 Med Gas was going to working group in March to update to the NFPA Code. Ed will be Chairmen again 5. Old Business 1. Boy Scouts dates Slow sign ups May need to cancel a session. 1. Sat. Jan. 31st Sat. Feb. 28 th Sat. March 28 th Cub Scout Session Terry and Jason working on getting the info out 1. Sat. March 21 st Reviewed changes to be made Jason to update 3. Merit Badge Midway March 7 th 8:00 to 11:30 Jason, Terry, Pat and Ken 11:30 to 3:00ish Ed and Rich Jason to remind all of this Health and Safety of Constructions and Maintenance Personnel promotion/education This was decided to be tabled until educational and certifications are in order. International is looking at late summer to have this in order. 5. Education/Training Feb. 18 th Rich will be co instructing a course to the Cleveland Engineering Society on Sanitary and Storm Drainage. Review other courses scheduled Rich will do Water, Ed would do Med Gas and Hospital Plumbing Systems. 6. Ideas for promotion/education of ASSE. 1. Free ½ to 1 hour presentations to senior or church groups Terry contacted a few groups and they were not interested more social than info. Looking into to Library s and Land Lord Associations. 2. Contact JVS/Adult Education Institutions Jason did not get this done in time. Will contact before next meeting. Newsletter 2
3 7. NOH Chapter Elections Motion made by Pat and Rich to re-elect all positions for according to the new NOH Chapter Bylaws. Joe Hallman to be contacted to see if he wants the 6 th BOD position according to the new bylaws. Motion Approved 8. Reviewed Michigan Banquet Feb. 7 th 2015 Looks like Ed, Rich and Jason so far. 6. New Business a. NOH Chapter presentation with MCA/CPCA March 18 th Looking to do PHCC also Jason to contact. Talking about ASSE and PQ Standards. b. ASSE/CPI/Local 55 Apprenticeship Contest Look at Dates in April for next meeting and awards at May 13 th meeting. c. Look at getting Chapter Development funds again this year for the Chapter Jason to get the policy from International to see what would fit. d. Rich and Terry doing the Brunswick Senior Expo to promote Scald Awareness on Jan. 19 th Meeting Adjourned at 5:50 P.M. Pat motioned the issue and Rich seconded it. ASSE News and Updates ASSE International Board of Director Meeting - 1st Quarter - Jan. 16 th and 17 th 2015 Report coming in next Newsletter Updated ASSE International Bylaws - An new ASSE Government Relations Page - Call for an Electric Hot Water Tank Expert for Working Group ASSE ASSE at the Ohio Association of Plumbing Inspector Annual Conference - March 11 th is World Plumbing Day and also the start of the Working Group for the ASSE Series 6000 Medical Gas Professional Qualification Standard. Application to be a part of this working group is open until the 1 st meeting on March 11 th. NOH Chapter Membership Drive for the Chapter - Updating Bylaws for the Chapter By-Laws have been approved by the NOH Chapter and will be sent to International for review and approval.
