Attendance at these State Certified Training Sessions will earn you Continuing Education Units (CEU s) for each session attended. The Northern Ohio Chapter of ASSE November 23, 2013 Hello to All, This month I was honored to attend, on behalf of Northern Ohio Chapter, the 2013 ASSE Annual Meeting in California. The meetings started Tuesday, November 5th and concluded Saturday, November 9th. If you have never attended the Annual Meeting I highly suggest you attend one. It is a great chance to sit in on the meetings that really make and shape our organization. It also gives all of us a chance to share our thoughts, experiences and issues with trying to provide the principles of Prevention Rather Than Cure. One of the highlights every year for me is the E.J. Zimmer Technical Seminar. This year s speakers covered topics in the Medical Gas field centered on Certifications (Jaime Valdiva/NITC, Scott Lisec/CHT), Legionella in building water systems (Ron George Plumb-Tech), The new PQ Standard about to finish Series Health and Safety of Construction and Maintenance Personnel (Edward Lyczko Product standards Chair), The World Plumbing Council presentation of its history and mission (Rich Proposal ASSE Regional Director/WPC Board Member) and finally a 6010 Medical Gas re-certification Course (Larry Coleman/ASSE Regional Director). The information and discussions presented at these seminars are well worth the trip because it brings the experts, of whatever the plumbing field that is being discussed, to the table. This is why ASSE in my opinion will always be, as it was from the start, at the fore front of protecting the health of the nation and now the world. Lastly, I would like to thank ASSE International and all of my fellow Northern Ohio Chapter Members. The reason for this thank you is that it was my honor to accept two awards presented by ASSE International to the Northern Ohio Chapter this year. Because of all of the hard work and time volunteered by the NOH members this year we received the Dewey Dedrick, Jr. Award for best performance by a Chapter and Best Chapter Newsletter, the Connex-It. Also, the winner of the NOH Chapter s Gerri Tesar Memorial Scholarship was Sean Dolansky, who is currently in his 3rd year at Kent State University. Sean is the grandson of the late Gerri Tesar, a former International Past President of the now defunct Ladies Auxiliary of ASSE. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Most of the chapters all meet with some other group. We are all about 1/3 of the total monthly meeting. Most don t have monthly chapter meeting maybe 1 or 2 a year. 3. Funding a chapter seems to be through dues, training, golf outings and trade shows. Motion to the Board again to raise the money coming back from dues. Russ from IAMPO spoke to us about this issue and stated that if a chapter needs some help to promote ASSE that they should make such requests to the board. The Board feels that instead of giving money back to inactive chapters it would be better to help the more involved chapters by approving money on a case by case base. a. Maybe we should ask for some money for the Boy Scout Merit Badge sessions? b. Also I wish to ask for a complete set of ASSE Standards in Book form with stands to promote at places we go and at chapter meetings. 4. Selected proposed places for Annual meeting is Oklahoma City. Board of Directors Meeting P.M. Jason Attended 1. All committees reported and approved by the Board. 2. Lobbyists presented again. No action taken by Board as of the closing of this meeting.
