1 The Northern Ohio Chapter of ASSE CONNEX-IT NORTHERN OHIO CHAPTER ASSE/ASPE SCHEDULE OF JOINT UPCOMING EVENTS: February 13, 2013 Gas Piping Systems OmegaFlex (Tracpipe) Brent Westover March 13, 2013 Water Reuse Systems Highland Tank Michael Gauthier April 10, 2013 Steam to Water Heat Transfer David Cronin Spirex -Sarco Joint meetings with ASPE are held at Harry s Steak House, 5654 Brecksville Road (Route 21), in Independence, just north of Rockside Road and I-77. Each Training Session starts with a Product Show at 5:00 PM. NOH Chapter Board Meetings convene at 5:00 PM also, and dinner follows at 6:00 PM. Each Training Session/Joint Meeting and dinner will cost $24.00 per person (subject to change) payable at the door. Attendance at these State Certified Training Sessions will earn you Continuing Education Units (CEU s) for each session attended. A Message from your Northern Ohio President... January 15, 2013 Happy New Year, I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and most importantly recovered from them! It was my honor at this month s Chapter meeting, along with the other Chapter Officers, to be sworn in for another term as President of the Northern Ohio Chapter of ASSE. The past 2 years have gone by in a blink of an eye. As we look to the next 2 years in regards to where our Chapter will be going, I have high hopes. The highest hope has and will always be the promotion of sound plumbing practices that brings health and safety to everyone s life young, old, rich or poor. In order to accomplish this goal,our Chapter will continue to promote plumbing as we have in past years with such events as Plumbing Merit Badges, Health Fairs, Chapter meetings and being members of committees who help to produce standards that we all enjoy in our daily lives. One of the new events this year that we are just now putting together is for the Cub Scouts. As everyone knows World Plumbing Day is March 11th every year. This year, on Saturday March 2nd, our Chapter will be part of a presentation and poster contest for the Cub Scouts in the Greater Cleveland area based on the World Plumbing Council Guidelines. More details will follow and I encourage everyone to let any Cub Scout you may know of this event. This brings me to my 2nd hope for the next 2 years Membership involvement. It is my mission to have more people doing less these next 2 years. All of this promotion takes time away from all of our busy lives and there never seems to be enough time. In the next few months it is my hope to see many new faces at some meetings with new ideas and a willingness to help give a little back to the plumbing industry that has provided for all of us. Chapter Financial Statements List of expenses since Dec $ Ed ASSE meeting and $25.00 for gift with ASPE for Staff at Harry s Income since Dec $0 Terry getting the Financial info to the ASSE Offices 3. Reimbursements: Ed was paid his travel expenses for atttending the ASSE Annual Meeting as approved in Oct $ No other reimbursements brought to the table 4. Committee Reports: New National ASSE Committee has been mostly completed. Awaiting a few other appointments.. 5. Old Business Letter to NOH Membership Jason still working on To have by next meeting World Plumbing Day Event with Cub Scouts Sat. 3/2/13 Reviewed proposed ideas Format agreed to as presented. No other partners aside from NOH ASSE, Local 55 and CPI Program will be on Sat. 3/2/13 with a back up date of 3/9/13 if needed. Time will be about 2 to 3 hrs Will start at 8:30 A.M. with drinks and food. 9:00 A.M. the program will start. 3 January 9th Meeting Minutes Continued from Page 2 Old Business continued: 6. New Business Food Drinks/coffee and some sort of food cookie, doughnuts etc. Promo Jason contact Cleveland Scouts and they are interested and will get the info of eve out to the Packs. Jason and Bob to put this together with the approval of all parties involved. Also anyone who knows a Scout get it to them. Rich and Terry will be doing the presentation to the Scouts. Jason to assist in the power poin if needed changes are to be made. Poster Contest This will be gone over by Rich and Terry as part of the presentation. Posters are not to be made after and not during the event Regional Prizes by the partners to be: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for each age group of 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. $25 gift card to an outdoors store for 1st place winner $10 and $5 for McDonalds for 2nd and 3rd place winners Also the 1st place winner in each age group will receive a $ donation to their Pack To be presented at a pack meeting All 1st place winners will be submitted to the International WPC contest. All posters need to be at the Training offices by 4:30 P.M. on Friday, March 15th. Jason reported that the Boy Scout Merit Badge Training is being cancelled for 2/23/13 because of lack of people 3/23 and 5/11 are still scheduled and are almost full. NOH ASSE training at Moen to start on Jan. 29th with 2 more dates to follow Tuesday, March 26th will be the annual ASSE Apprenticeship Contest Jason to set this up Prizes and Food as last year Motion made by Pat and Dan to buy a table of 8 plus 1 for the Michigan Chapter Awards Banquet on Feb. 2nd Total cost $ Approved Rich updated us on the events/progress of the IAMPO/ASSE consolidation. First Quarter ASSE Board Meeting Jan 12-13, 2013 in Key West, FL details to follow next month.. Meeting Adjourned at 5:30 P.M. Pat motioned the issue and Ken seconded it.

5 Happenings at the Northern Ohio Chapter of ASSE - January 2013 Congratulations! Dan Sugrue (right), 1st VP of the NOH Chapter presents a 35 year achievement certificate to his Life Member dad, Patrick Sugrue, International Past President and former Chapter President of the Northern Ohio Chapter at the January 9, 2013 joint ASSE/ASPE Training Meeting Rest In Peace The Northern Ohio Chapter of ASSE lost an old time member of the Chapter this month when Mr. William S. Billik passed away. Bill was the beloved caring husband of Frances M. (nee Milosovic) Loving father of Susan Searcy (Timothy), Janet Heyen (William), and William (Ann Neuman). Grandfather of Peggy, Billy, Rob and Annie. Son of the late Michael Billik and Susan (nee Kopchak). Brother of the following deceased: Ann Ondrejiska, George Billik, Helen Carr, Mary Meczka, Marge Mielecki, and Dorothy Krakowski. Dear uncle and great uncle to many. Bill was an active member of the Chapter from 1988 until 2006 participating in Chapter activities and trade shows put on for the Plumbing Industry. He was also an advisor on the State of Ohio Plumbing Code Board. He dropped out of activities to be the care provider for his ailing wife. Bill was laid to rest in Brooklyn Heights Cemetery on January 10, 2013, after a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, in Parma, Ohio. He will be missed in the Industry. WORLD PLUMBING DAY The NOH Chapter along with the UA Local 55 Plumbers JATC and the Cleveland Plumbing Industry will conduct an awareness event on March 2, 2013 with the Greater Cleveland Cub Scouts, at the JATC Training Center, honoring World Plumbing Day - March 11, 2013

6 NOH Chapter of ASSE / Cleveland Chapter of ASPE January 9, 2013 Joint Training Session/Meeting On January 9th, 2013, approximately 30 members and guests from the Northern Ohio Chapter of ASSE and the Cleveland Chapter of ASPE were present for the very informative program on Lead Free Legislation: -The Affect on the Plumbing Industry, presented by Linda Siegler, Northeast Regional Sales Manager for T & S Brass and Bronze Works, located in Travelers Rest, SC. T & S Brass and Bronze Works manufactures one of the most complete line of faucets, fittings, lab faucet fixtures and products for the restaurant kitchen dishwashing and rinsing needs along with a complete potable water faucet line. Linda introduced the group to AB 1593 Compliancy for low-lead content fittings and valves, which was instituted by the state of California in 2006, by state law. This action was precipitated earlier in 1974 by the Safe Water Drinking Act mandated as a federal law and required the NSF -61 Standard. NSF was appointed as the Agency to develop the criteria to test materials to meet the allowable limits of lead content to comply and be recognized by a third party certification body. Currently three other states have followed and enacted the California AB 1593 guidlines for low lead faucets to NSF 61/9, they are: Vermont: Maryland: Louisiana: All other states have legislation in progress using California AB 1593, and Federal Bill S3873 (Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act) which takes effect on January 4, 2014, and will be the law of the land. It will be illegal to sell faucets, etc that do not meet the criteria of this act after that time.
