Thirty-one representatives attended the meeting. (Quorum is 25 reps.) Vice Chair Report - The Vice Chair is available to present a four hour workshop on topics related to the Steps, Traditions and Concepts (STC) for GPI every 2 years. For more info contact the Vice Chair, Terri B. through the R7 website. The R7 Convention Recovery: It s a Shore Thing is the first weekend in November. It is the region s biggest fundraiser and 200 people are expected. The convention committee is requesting that each IG send at least one raffle basket. Gift cards and program related items are most appropriate. R7 Trustee Report - Region 7 includes Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and the District of Columbia. There are 21 intergroups, and 493 groups (aka meetings) were active in this region in This is up from 476 groups in There have been reports that the decision to have bariatric surgery is creating controversy within the fellowship. All regions are being reminded that the policy statement adopted by WSBC in 2018 states that In keeping with Tradition Ten, Overeaters Anonymous has no opinion on bariatric (weight-loss) surgery. In the spirit of Tradition Three, Overeaters Anonymous welcomes anyone with a desire to stop eating compulsively, including those who have had the surgery or are contemplating it. We each have our own individual paths to walk towards recovery from compulsive overeating. The board has also decided to allow for the registration of special focus meetings with the topic of bariatric surgery. The 2019 OA Conference will focus on Membership Retention. With the growth of virtual meetings it has become more difficult to determine if the fellowship is growing, maintaining membership or diminishing in numbers. Please make all members aware of the impact on the OA treasury when literature is purchase from third party sellers on the internet. Purchasing literature from OA is another way that we support the fellowship. All new business motion proposed were passed. R7 will no longer be offering hard copies of the pre-assembly packets at cost to the representatives, so IGs may need to assume this cost if the representative requests reimbursement.
