So bring your favorite picnic salad, sandwich, or dessert to share and your dancing shoes to Jody Stewart s apartment building for a great time. We also have some business to discuss and vote on by our April meeting. Look for information on this in the newsletter. Come and be a part of what s happening in Beta Lambda. We are better together! Drive through the light and Park Tower is the third building on the right. It is a 10-story brown building with balconies on each unit. Park anywhere on the street and walk to the front door. Drive past Fairhaven, Jewish Community Center, and Mtn. Brook Post Office. Continue on Montclair. The road name will change a couple of times but do NOT turn until you reach the traffic light at the intersection of Naizuma and Highland Avenue. Turn right on Highland Avenue and Park Tower is the third building on the right. It is a 10-story brown building with balconies. Park anywhere on the street and walk to the front door. Chapter Rules/Bylaws The following chapter rules will be discussed at the March meeting and voted on at the April meeting: Scholarships/Grant-In-Aid: Grant in aid-even numbered years: Vote at September meeting. Award at October meeting. Scholarship-odd numbered years: Vote at September meeting. Award at October meeting. There has been some confusion in the past about which year to award these and we feel this would clear up that confusion. A proposal was made at the September meeting to increase the scholarship amount to $ Currently, the scholarship fund is the amount of interest on the CD which is about $ Meetings: This is in the 2017 yearbook: Beta Lambda will meet monthly on a Saturday at 11:00 a.m. as designated by the program committee for seven months of the year. The regular monthly meetings will begin in September and end in April. The chapter will not meet during the month of December. The president, with the program committee s recommendations, will submit a yearly chapter calendar to the membership prior to the September meeting to include time and dates for meetings. This is in the 2015 yearbook: Beta Lambda will meet the second or third Saturday of a month or on a scheduled night as designated by the program committee for seven months of the year. The regular monthly meetings will begin in September and end in April. The chapter will not meet during the month of January and the months when the District III Meeting or the Beta State Convention is scheduled. The president, with the program committee s recommendations, will submit a yearly chapter calendar to the membership prior to the September meeting to include time and dates for meetings.
3 March 2018, Page 3 Dues Increase: International dues increased by $5 for the year. Our chapter rules need to show the increased amount. This is in the 2017 yearbook: Changes in chapter dues shall be determined by chapter vote. Annual dues shall be no less than the combination of State and International dues. Annual dues shall be sixty dollars ($60) for active membership with forty dollars ($40) for International, ten dollars ($10) for State and ten dollars ($10) for the chapter and twenty-five dollars ($25) for reserve membership with twenty dollars ($20) for International, four dollars ($4) for State, forty cents ($.40) for scholarship and sixty cents ($.60) for the chapter. Membership: In the past year, we have discussed that we can invite new members any time. This is in the 2017 yearbook: New members shall be voted on by ballot prepared by the membership chairman during the March and/or April meeting. Invitations will be mailed by the president immediately following the election. New member orientation will be conducted by the membership chairman and president prior to the initiation which will be held in September. Members-elect will indicate in writing to the chapter president their acceptance to membership. Communication Tools: Group Me and DKG App Several weeks ago, I sent out a request for all Beta Lambda members to join GroupMe. GroupMe is an app that you put on your phone that allows anyone in a group to communicate via text to other members of that group. I have several groups using GroupMe and it is very convenient and easier to use than . You download the app to your phone via the Apple App store or Google Play, depending on what type of phone you have, choose the group with which you have received an invitation, and you are ready to go. Using the app will help members who have smartphones but who don t use or other methods of communication. Once you have set up GroupMe on your phone, you can go to groupme.com on your computer and read the conversations there. I will be demonstrating GroupMe at the March meeting and I hope this will help everyone realize that GroupMe is a valuable communication tool to use. Another communication tool that I will demonstrate is the Delta Kappa Gamma 365 mobile app. It replaces the old DKG app. Madeline Buchanan Communications Chairperson
