2 November Is A Month To Give Thanks And Remember Our Military Veterans. As we get nearer to the end of 2012, the holidays seem to creep up on us and the stress of the season begins. But before all of that festiveness, we as a country pause for a day to thank all of our veterans who have served this great country and the ones who are currently serving. November 11 is the day reserved to celebrate all veterans in America. At MTCO we are proud to have veterans employed with the company just as many other businesses are proud to have veterans in their ranks. Veterans are an important ingredient to all communities across the United States. Some become your leaders in the community, and many others are volunteers helping to run local charitable organizations and civic minded events. They are the ones that work hard to make sure other veterans are not forgotten. They are silent heroes all year long, and on this one day of the year, Americans made it a holiday to take time to pause and say thanks. We are so fortunate to have such a caring community for all veteran s who have served or are currently serving. Marseilles has placed itself on the national map with the Middle East Conflicts Wall Memorial on the riverfront. As you look around town, our community has quite a few memorials for our veterans. It is important to remember that this day was set aside as a celebration to honor America s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Also, this month on Thanksgiving Day, we take time to gather with family and friends and give thanks. It is a special time of the year that we gather to celebrate with each other with food, fun, and traditions. At MTCO, we want to thank everybody again for their continued support to us over the past 67 years. We have been part of your families for a long time. From the days that people shared a phone call from a distant relative calling to wish everybody a Happy Thanksgiving, or even a call home from a soldier serving during the holidays, MTCO was proud to provide the services you needed to have a great Thanksgiving. 3 Entertainment & Technology History Of Veterans Day Every year we see Veterans Day come and go. But most of us don t really understand the signifigance of the day. World War I officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. That day was November 11, In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day. The original concept for the celebration was for a day observed with parades and public meetings and a brief suspension of business beginning at 11:00 a.m. Through the years, laws were made to change the holiday to include all veterans of all wars. The name was changed to Veterans Day and the date had even been changed for a short amount of time. By September 20, 1975, President Gerald R. Ford signed into law, which returned the annual observance of Veterans Day to its original date of November 11, beginning in Veterans Day continues to be observed on November 11, regardless of what day of the week on which it falls. The restoration of the observance of Veterans Day to November 11 not only preserves the historical significance of the date, but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day. It is also a much less known fact that the government of the United States claims the official name of the holiday is Veterans Day without the apostrophe. Many places of business and items in print continue to use the apostrophe in the name incorrectly to this day. TNT Announces Winter Premiere Dates As part of its strategic expansion to year-round original programming, TNT is set to burn brightly this winter with a slate of six original series. The lineup includes the return of three hit dramas, a new season of one of the most acclaimed series on television and the premiere of a brand new medical drama from David E. Kelley and Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Among TNT s winter highlights, hit dramas Rizzoli & Isles and Leverage will return for a run of episodes beginning Nov. 27. TNT s hot new series Dallas will return for its second season on Jan. 28, followed on Feb. 4 by the debut of Monday Mornings, the new David E. Kelley-Sanjay Gupta medical drama starring Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina and Jamie Bamber. On Feb. 13, TNT will launch the fifth season of Southland, the acclaimed police drama that puts viewers in the middle of the action on the streets of Los Angeles. And on Feb. 27, TNT will premiere Boston s Finest (working title), a new unscripted series with unprecedented access to the Boston Police Department, from executive producer Donnie Wahlberg. Killer Karaoke Premieres This winter, trutv is setting out to build on its remarkable success. On Friday, Nov. 23, the eagerly anticipated Killer Karaoke premieres on digimax channel 84. Hosted by Jackass star Steve-O, Killer Karaoke is a wild singing competition in which the contestants try to sing a hit song while enduring hilarious and unexpected physical challenges. 6 In Our Community Fish Fry The Labors Local 393, located at 322 Main Street, will hold a Fish Fry on Friday, November 2, 2012 from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8.00 and is open to the public. Proceeds will benefit Christmas Baskets. Provenzano Racing Party & Benefit Take part in a fun evening and help raise funds to help with the medical bills for the Mike Provenzano family.
