2 Des Peres Parks and Recreation MISSION: We bring our community together in our facilities and parks to inspire healthy lifestyles through high-quality programs, extraordinary customer service and constant efforts of improvement. We serve our community through stewardship and protection of our natural, environmental, physical and historical resources. VALUES: We provide extraordinary customer service. We as a team, empower each other. We bring the community together. We create experiences worth repeating. We constantly improve.
3 Who we are Des Peres Parks and Recreation was established in 1974 by the City of Des Peres. At this time, the goal of the city was to take the first steps in establishing a park system throughout the community. The first park in the system was Des Peres Park. The City of Des Peres is still working toward this goal with a total of over 100 park acres currently in the system. In August 2000, the voters in the City of Des Peres approved a half cent sales tax to contribute toward park related projects and programs. Shortly after the tax was approved, construction started on a new community center, The Lodge Des Peres. The recreation center opened in November 2003 and the outdoor aquatic center opened the following summer. The response to the recreation center was overwhelming! Both residents and non-residents flocked to the new center for swimming, exercise and learning opportunities. The community has clearly shown that there was a definite need and desire for this type of facility, after all, The Lodge is where your neighbors gather!
