CALL TO ORDER. called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL. All commissioners were present except. 4. CHANGES TO AGENDA. Move New Business NILES BASEBALL LEAGUE Steve Hammer, Niles Baseball League thanked the Board of Commissioners for their support during the baseball season. He said that they could not do it without the help of the NPD. Executive Director LoVerde said that the Niles Baseball League and NPD have a great

2 partnership and hopes the relationship continues for many years to come. The Board of Commissioners and the Niles Baseball League took a picture at which time the Niles Baseball League presented NPD with a check. 5. CONSENT AGENDA APPROVAL. A. BOARD REPORTS Robin Brey - Recreation Bright Beginnings preschool will be ending another successful school year this week. Graduations will be held this Thursday and Friday at Oasis and Grennan Heights. The annual Piano Recital will be held this Friday at Culver School at 6pm. 50 students will be performing their music pieces. Registration for summer camps is increasing as the start of camp approaches. There will be an Open House on June 1 st at Howard Leisure Center for the Early Childhood Camps and at Oasis for full day recreation camps beginning at 6:30pm. Laura Newton, Tam Tennis Manager Harvest Hustle is confirmed for Sunday October 23, Timing Company and Notre Dame College Prep have been notified. Enrollment has started for our summer classes. Our facility will be used for USTA matches and summer leagues will use us in the event of bad weather.

4 Jim Majewski, Park Services Approximately 150 new plants have been planted at Oasis in front of the building and on the side. It will be mulched tomorrow. Also, irrigation was installed at Oasis 2 weeks ago. Also inside the fence at Oasis will be top dressed. The bottle fillers have been ordered for Golfview and Tam Tennis and should be delivered in a couple of weeks. The property where the house was on Oketo was backfilled yesterday. We are waiting for it to dry up so we can then top dress it. There are 2 holes left at Pioneer to be re-carpeted which will be done tomorrow. asked about the outdoor gym equipment. Executive Director LoVerde said that we looking into this. He said we have to make sure it is safe for children. We will have to take with the attorney about the safety of the children with this equipment. Commissioner Czarnik suggested looking into tarps for the ball fields at Pioneer Park. This will save on rainouts. Executive Director LoVerde suggested that we look into outsourcing the ballfield maintenance. Executive Director LoVerde thanked for all his help with planting of all the flowers and plants. Marty Stankowicz, Iceland Spring League Hockey is coming to an end, and playoffs start after Memorial Day. IceLand will be hosting playoffs with available ice. Ice Show was held three weeks ago with larger crowds than last year, helping to meet the budgeted revenue. The outdoor rink will be used for roller hockey and public roller skating this summer. We are finalizing the specifics and plan to start immediately after Memorial Day and continue to Labor Day. Summer camp staff training is scheduled. IceLand camps start June 13. Registrations are picking up this week. Fall program and ice scheduling is ongoing. Executive Director LoVerde Executive Director LoVerde asked that the commissioners put together a date for the dedication at Point Park. It was decided to have this on Friday, June 17 th at 4:00pm. also said that we should also have a grand opening for the skate park.

5 Marketing, Julie Jentel Several Summer s have been sent out this past month- Pioneer Park, Summer Basketball, Pool Passes & Summer Camps. With the school year ending this week, each preschool student will be given a DVD slideshow filled with their preschool memories. Schedules & Standings are posted on our website for all the Spring & Summer Athletic programs. To promote the Summer Concerts, 3 banners are being made to be hung on the decorative poles on Main Street at Oak Park. Lindsay Brubaker Pioneer/Oasis Concession News to Report: Pioneer Park- Oasis- We ve been blessed with cooperative weather so far this season! We only had 3 days of rainouts in April. They began installing new mini-golf carpeting on Friday, May 6 th. The glue is unable to set if the ground is wet, so the rain has been slowing them down a bit. The illuminated concessions menu board has been installed. Replacement of the wooden fence posts surrounding the ponds will begin soon. The new, larger banners have been hung. The smaller banners will be moved to be hung at other Park District locations. We had our first big Family Fun Night of the year on Friday, May 6 th. There was not an empty spot in the parking lot! Staff stayed open late to accommodate the large crowds. Niles Baseball League opening day originally scheduled for April 30 th was rained out. We only had 21 NBL kids come through on the rescheduled date of May 7 th. College kids are starting to return, new hires are being trained, and our big staff meeting is on Wednesday, May 25 th. We switch to summer hours on Saturday, May 28 th. Everything has been cleaned and food has been delivered. We are set to open. Niles All American City Spring Fling Softball Tournament- Was held April th at Pioneer Park and Grennan. We lucked out big time on weather! Teams from as far as Evergreen Park, Lake in the Hills, and Warren participated. Teams appreciated playing on our well maintained fields, having access to

6 our clean facilities, and commented on our friendly staff at both locations. This tournament also translated into huge concession sales. Commissioner Czarnik asked if we have any signups for the Future League. Lindsay said the Pioneer Park team has signed up. Paul said that we have advertised this everywhere. Commissioner Czarnik asked if Kenny sent to something to St. Pat s or to the team captains. Lindsay said that we have posters in over 75 locations. department for their effort. Commissioner Czarnik thanked the Athletics Paul Nielsen The spring soccer league is underway. We have 254 players in the league and largest division is the JV division with 74 players. This is the first time we had enough players to have a JV level in the spring. Games are being played at GH and Culver. The youth volleyball season is in mid-season. We have 314 players between the grade levels of 4 th through 8 th grade. Games are played Saturdays and Sundays at GV. The other programs running are: T-ball, Youth Coach Pitch, Gymnastics, Volleyball Academy, Girls softball. Men s 16 on Mondays and Wednesdays, Co-Rec Mushball on Thursdays and Men s 12 on Fridays. The Men s 16 th leagues on Mondays and Wednesdays have had a rough start due to all the rainouts. We are marketing all summer and fall programs including the camps through various methods including the Futures 16 softball league. On June 1 st, Robin, Nick and the Niles Police Department and I will be doing first aid and safety awareness training for all the camp employees. Tam Golf Course Peter Dubs Rounds for the month of April were up slightly when compared to last season. To date, we are slightly behind last year s pace due to a wet start to the month of May. Leagues and Permanent Tee Times were set to begin their seasons last week, however minor flooding postponed the start for groups on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Revenue for both Leagues and Permanent Tee Times will surpass projected budget figures. Work on the netting at the learning center has been completed and classes for both juniors and adults are regularly filling up. Spring sessions of most of the junior classes last a few more weeks. The bulk of our summer programming begins June 13 th. Our first junior outing of the year took place the afternoon of Friday May 6 th. The event filled past capacity and 59 players aged 6-13 enjoyed a 70 degree evening out on the course. One participant even got a Hole In One on #9. Our next big event will be the 2 nd Annual Tam O Shanter Junior Golf Games, scheduled for Friday August 5 th.

7 Golf Course Maintenance Jim Stoneberg Tree and stump removals are being scheduled for early June completion. Preventive junction spray to all mature pine and spruce trees two applications May and June. Drainage repairs as weather and time permits ongoing around the course. Preventive disease control applications to greens tees and fairways. Repairs to Irrigation system due to a bad power inverter along with a failing field satellite transformer awaiting parts to complete. We have received the pricing from XGD for course master plan project phases. Executive Director LoVerde said that at the June meeting we will have the renovations we are planning on doing along with the design pricing. 9. NEW BUSINESS. A. EDMUND BAHI 15 YEAR ANNIVERSARY Executive Director LoVerde stated that since 1997 they were going to operate the NPD like a business and made an effort not to call a contractor because a facet was dripping, light bulb was out, etc. We created a Park Services Department that each one of our people specialize in one particular area and generally have enough knowledge to take care of anything. Tom and Edmund are very much a part of our Park Service Department. Executive Director LoVerde said that he cannot estimate how much money the NPD saves in having employees like Tom and Edmund. Executive Director LoVerde thanked both Tom and Edmund for all their help and wishes them many more years with the NPD. They were both invited to take a picture with the Board of Commissions. 10. OLD BUSINESS. A. UPDATE ON CALDWELL PROPERTY Executive Director LoVerde said that Option 2A was presented back to Wight. They are continuing to define the drawings. We are now waiting for the engineering results for the existing steel. We anticipate going for bid for demolition in June. We anticipate having the final drawing for the June meeting. 11. MISCELLANEOUS Commissioner O Donovan asked about the skatepark. He said that Ohcake Skateboard Co.

8 would like to host a contest at the skatepark location on June 25 th. They would promote the park in their literature. They would take care of all liability. Commissioner Czarnik asked if we have implemented an internship. Peter has an intern that will be working with him. Commissioner Czarnik stated that each department should have an intern. 12. CITIZENS WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD. None. 13. CONVENE INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION UNDER SECTION 2 (C)(1) TO DISCUSS PERSONNEL ISSUES, SECTION 2 (C)(5) TO DISCUSS REAL ESTATE AND SECTION 2 (C)(11) TO DISCUSS LITIGATION OF THE OPEN MEETINGS ACT. (IF NECESSARY) A motion was made by Commissioner Czarnik seconded by to convene INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION UNDER SECTION 2 (C)(1) TO DISCUSS PERSONNEL ISSUES.
