PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Hello Lakeridge, As another year closes in, I always find myself reflecting back on what happened through the year. A new Costco nearby. A new interchange at Boychuk and Highway 16. Rosewood growing at an enormous pace. All that busyness and I feel comfortable in living in Lakeridge. We are very fortunate to have everything we do. Mature trees, sidewalks on both sides of the street. A fully developed park with two great schools. There is always a sense of calm and quiet here. I love it! Saying that, we need to do our best to keep it that way. The Lakeridge Community Association exists to encourage a sense of community and to improve the quality of life for all residents within the neighbourhood. The Association works to accomplish this goal by promoting and coordinating leisure programs and social activities, as well as by representing the neighbourhood. (continued on page 2) LAKERIDGE WINTER REGISTRATION LIKE us on Facebook Lakeridge Community Association
2 We seem to have a real struggle to have enough volunteers sitting on the Community Association board to fill all the positions needed to be effective. I strongly encourage you to come out to a meeting and see what we are all about! There may be something that intrigues you, and you can volunteer to a really great cause. This is our home. This is our Lakeridge. Take care on the winter roads around Saskatoon and Saskatchewan. Safe travels to those who visit the sun over the coming months. Stay warm. Our community association was established for the benefit of our Lakeridge residents, developing programs and services to enhance our community s interests and needs. Your membership fee is used for developing and running programs, activities and administrative costs for the association. In 2006 your Lakeridge Community Association donated $9,000 to each of our community s schools to erect our school/community signs; and more recently donated $10,000 to the Lakeridge Playground Project and now $10,000 to the St Luke Playground Project! Your membership fee also helps to pay for the upkeep of our community rink & tennis court. We also use this money to help pay for our annual family fun day! The Lakeridge Community Association (LCA) is maintained by the dedicated individuals who volunteer their time to improve the quality of life for themselves and others in the community. Share the feeling of community pride take time, make time - get involved! Support your association by purchasing a membership online or from any member of the executive. Please help us welcome our new membership coordinator, Laurie Walling to your Lakeridge CA Executive. Laurie was on the executive when it was first formed and spent about 8 years as the newsletter coordinator. Welcome back Laurie! You can reach her at membership@lakeridgecommunity.ca Season s Greetings Lakeridge! Another year has come and gone all too quickly. As we move into the NewYear, the LCA would like to thank you for your continued support. We hope you have opportunity to reflect on the past year and spend time with family & friends. Where ever your travels take you threw the holiday season, please travel safe. All the best to you and your families in the coming year! 2017/2018 LCA Executive

5 Greetings From St. Luke School St. Luke School community had another excellent start to the school year. The Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Division has designated this year s theme to be Christ in Me Arise. The theme reminds us of the importance of supporting our faith journey with daily prayer, exploring opportunities to serve others and recognizing Jesus in each one of us. From this theme, one of our faith goals this year is to recognize the kindness students show one another. What Would Jesus Do! (WWJD) cards have been filled out each month recognizing student actions which have reflected the Gospel Virtues and the Seven Sacred Teachings. We finish each month drawing a name from each classroom to win a free lunch with a couple members of our staff. At this time I would like to thank Pancho s Pizza and Famoso for sponsoring this initiative. Our playground committed continues to work towards making our children s dream of a new play structure a reality. On October 20th, we had a Family Fun Carnival that was a huge success. Look to a raffle in the new year as their second major fundraiser. I would like to personally thank them for their ongoing commitment to this goal! If you would like more information on their upcoming events Like them on facebook stlukeplaygroundproject.ca. Our community hockey rink located behind our school has had a number of repairs completed and a coat of paint to give it an updated look. Thank you to Gary Polishak for making this possible. Final reminder is that St. Luke School continues to welcome all students and families to our learning community. Kindergarten registrations will begin to be accepted on January 8th, 2018 with a Kindergarten Open House on January 16th at 7:00pm in the Library at St. Luke School. 7 website: lakeridgeplaygroundproject Did YOU play today? THAT'S ALL FOLKS! After 4 years, over 3000 volunteer hours, 17 fundraisers and 22 grant applications the LPP Committee is calling it a day! Thanks to the success of the 3rd Lakeridge Night Out, we are projecting approximately $1,0,000 in fundi will be put toward a new City of Saskatoon playground in Lakeridge. The LPP Committee will provide $153,000 on behalf of our donors and supporters, to add to a $15,000 park enhancement grant and in-kind drainage and playground surfacing promised by the City. While the amount we have raised is near to our original fundraising goal for Phase 2 and would have covered the build as designed, it will not cover the additional overhead added by the City last December 10 contingency fee 10 project management fee. In order to cover these charges and retain the original design, an additional $32,000 is re uired. Next steps for the Committee are to meet with the City of Saskatoon and discuss what can be accomplished with the funds we have in hand, with the objective of seeing the build completed in summer of 201. This may mean a redesigned play structure. We are hopeful that the City will come to the table with some ideas to help us get the playground that has been envisioned for - and is deserved by - this community. We are very proud of what has been accomplished - almost $3 0,000 invested back into the community of Lakeridge for playground refurbishment between the Saskatoon Public Schools and City of Saskatoon sites. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OVER THE LAST 4 YEARS! DONATIONS STILL BEING ACCEPTED! While we are not planning any further active fundraisers, we will continue to accept donations for the Phase 2 playground until the project goes to bid. The Saskatoon Public School Division will continue to provide charitable tax receipts for any donations received over $ If you are interested in making a donation please contact us, or fill out the attached donation form. EVERY CENT COUNTS!
