Please join us to learn about all the fun activities we have planned for this year and how you can help! Ice Cream Social You are invited to the Back to School Ice Cream Social on Thursday, August 17th from 6:30-8:30 pm at Roxbury! Come meet your teacher and classmates AND enjoy Mitchell s Ice Cream!! If you are interested in helping, please contact Kristen Chandler at kl_chandler@hotmail.com. We look forward to seeing you all! Staff Appreciation For August the Staff Appreciation Committee will be welcoming the Roxbury Teachers and Staff with breakfast on August 17th. Classroom Coordinators Needed Are you looking to get involved in your child's classroom? Volunteer to be a Classroom Coordinator!! The Class Coordinator is a vital link between the teacher and the parent volunteers for class parties and field trips. You do NOT have to attend all class events, but rather you help to organize the parent volunteers so the teacher is free to focus on other things. Coordinators are responsible for organizing parent volunteers for four parties throughout the year and field trip volunteers at the teacher's discretion. Time commitment is usually hours for the entire school year and most work is done via . Please consider donating your time for this very important position! Sign up at the Ice Cream Social, Curriculum Night, or via to Anne.Dellamorte@gmail.com Curriculum Night We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Curriculum Night, August 30 from 6:30-8:30pm. This important evening allows teachers to share information as we begin our partnership in learning here at Roxbury!
Picture Day Picture day will be Monday, September 18. Further information will be sent home with your child. Spirit Day VOLUNTEERS WANTED- Join the Spirit Day Committee in celebrating Spirit Day on the last Friday of every month. During lunch (11 am- 1 pm), we will be passing out prizes to the entire student population to share some School Spirit and show our Roxbury Pride. Last year s treats and prizes included allergen-free popsicles, colorful leis and Solon sunglasses. It is a great opportunity to hang out with your kids and their friends in a relaxed and fun environment. Our first Spirit Day is the first week of school, on Friday, August 25. Spirit Day is celebrated throughout the year, so there will be many volunteer opportunities. Feel free to stay for as long as you can, when it fits your schedule. For security reasons, the office would like a list of volunteers every month, so let us know if you plan on stopping by. If you have any questions or if you would like to volunteer, please Marylou at marylou.horwitz@gmail.com. Even if you cannot volunteer, please make sure your students wear their Rocket Wear on the last Friday of the month! The Roxbury Work Room Needs YOU! The Roxbury Work Room needs you!! We are looking for at least one or two volunteers per grade level to help make copies for teachers weekly throughout the year. Volunteering in the Work Room is a great way to help support Roxbury staff while still allowing you the flexibility to work around your schedule. If you can donate 1-2 hours per week, at your availability, to the Work Room please Anne.Dellamorte@gmail.com. SAVE THE DATE - Mark your calendars for September 18th Solon's Organized Parent Education Network, aka OPEN, is celebrating it's 30th year with a free blockbuster event for ALL parents! On September 18th at 7PM in the Solon High School Lecture Hall, we will be bringing Gina Gallagher and Patricia Konjoian, nationally known speakers and authors of the New York Times Bestselling book, Shut Up About Your Perfect Kid: A Survival Guide for Ordinary Parents of Special Children, to Solon for a special night of education and entertainment. Today, more than ever, our society is obsessed with achievement and perfection. This is especially true when it comes to our children. It seems we can t go anywhere without hearing about how someone s child scored the winning goal or
reading a bumper sticker that says, My honor student loves me. So what s a parent of a child who s not a star athlete or Rhodes scholar to do? You can join The Movement of Imperfection! This long-overdue movement invites parents of non-perfect kids to come out of their messy closets and talk about the accomplishments of their children. With bumper stickers like My Bipolar Kid Loves Me AND Hates Me, they're proudly wearing their badges of imperfection and telling the world with humor and grace, We re not always O.K., but that s O.K. Pick up a copy of this book at the Solon Library, Barnes and Noble, or Amazon and get ready to join the Movement of Imperfection! You'll be glad you did! Join Roxbury PTA before September 30th and be entered into a drawing to win a $50 Target gift card! $8 per family means more great programs and assemblies for your children, more fun parties, more perks for our hard-working teachers, more of the things that make Roxbury extra special! Only one membership form per family is needed, but if multiple children attend Roxbury, please write each child's name and teacher's name on the envelope.
ROXBURY FALL FUNDRAISER The PTA would like to thank you for your support and interest in last year s unique Fall Art Fundraising Activity, KIDS KREATIONS! We found it to be such a success and so much fun for students and families alike, that we re going to participate in this exciting program again for the school year. Kids Kreations takes pride in developing unique artwork keepsakes that document the youth and individuality of each child during these precious, fleeting years. We found it to be a great experience all around with quality products and customer service. Kids Kreations will allow each participating artist to have artwork professionally processed into a variety of exclusive items. All families will receive a free page of stickers created from your child's artwork too! These products make unique keepsakes and wonderful gifts for the entire family! Kids Kreations product samples will be on display at the back to school ice-cream social and at Roxbury Elementary for viewing. This fundraiser is the method by which the PTA pays for its fabulous student-centered programs & events such as assemblies, COSI on Wheels, Family Fun Night, EWOW, Fall Fest, Art Show, Fourth Grade Year-end Party, Field Day, and much more. In addition, Kids Kreations offers a fun and unique way for each artist to gain pride and self-confidence through sharing artwork with others! Roxbury PTA spends roughly $30 per child on such student activities each year. Please consider supporting the fundraiser via: DONATION: 100% proceeds go directly to fund school programs. Make checks payable to Roxbury PTA. It's that easy. (For your convenience, feel free to use the bottom portion to submit your donation.) PURCHASE: Approximately 35% of the sales of the Kids Kreations Fundraising items go back to the school. Orders will be delivered mid-november. Thanks in advance for your participation! We re looking forward to scheduling great student programs for this year. Feel free to contact me with any questions and please be on the lookout for more info to come! Yes, I would like to support the Roxbury PTA Fundraiser by making a direct donation. (Please make checks payable to Roxbury PTA.) Child s Name: Teacher s Name & Grade: Donation Amount $30 Other Amount Yes, I would like a tax-deductible donation receipt to be sent to the following address:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION & REMINDERS!: Photo ID It is now policy to present a photo ID when you come into the school. Please refer to the Family Handbook for further information. This will help with the traffic flow after school. Thanks! Facebook If you are on Facebook, please consider joining the Roxbury PTA group ( We will post our sign-ups on this group when we are looking for volunteers. For the safety and privacy of our children, only Roxbury families will be permitted in this group. If you send a request to join and are not approved right away, check your "Other" Facebook messages. We will be double-checking all new member requests to ensure that they have children at Roxbury. Yearbook If you take pictures at any school event, please send them to roxburypta@yahoo.com to be included in the yearbook. We would like to have as many kids represented in the yearbook as we can! Parking When coming to school, please do not park in the front drive after 2pm. Please park in the side lot or on the side ABC streets. Please do not park on Solon Boulevard in front of the school at any time. Birthday Policy Treats and trinkets will no longer be allowed to be brought in to celebrate your child's birthday. The school is recommending that you send in a book for your teacher's classroom library. Please refer to your Family Handbook for further information.
