1 General ASB ELECTIONS PACKET Forms Due to: Mr. Lively, room 305, by 3:00pm on Friday, April 10 Campaigning Begins: Wednesday, April 15, 6:00am Campaigning Ends: Thursday, April 23, 3:00pm (This means all signs and posters -including blue tape- must be pulled down! Failure to do so will result in disqualification.) Speeches/Voting: Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday, April 21-23, at STEP Results: All elected positions will be posted on the door of the ASB room by Friday, April 24.
2 PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: LA CANADA HIGH SCHOOL ASB CAMPAIGN REGULATIONS 1.! Applications are due on Friday, April 10 by 3:00pm. 2.! Campaigning will begin on Wednesday, April 15, 6:00am. 3.! All materials must be removed by 3:00 PM on Thursday, April ! Elections will be held on Tuesday April 21, Wednesday April 22 and Thursday April ! Election results will be posted and announced by April ! All candidates are responsible for their own campaign materials. 7.! ASB Advisor, Mr. Lively, must approve all materials before being posted or distributed. 8.! Only appropriate material (social media included) conducive for positive campaigning is acceptable. 9.! Campaign materials are NOT ALLOWED IN CLASSROOMS. 10.!Campaign materials may be posted only on the red bulletins boards. 11.!Do not post campaign materials in the stairwells of the buildings. 12.!You may only use Blue tape on school walls (ASB does NOT provide blue tape). 13.!No stickers are allowed. NO CANDY OR GIVE-AWAYS ARE ALLOWED. 14.!We encourage recycling of campaign materials. Failure to follow campaign rules can result in the candidate being removed from the ballot. GENERAL ELECTION INFORMATION Class Requirements of ASB: 1)! Students must be able to enroll in the FOURTH PERIOD ASB Leadership class. 2)! Students must attend two ASB summer activities a lunch meeting during the week of June 1-5 and a day-long planning event at a date to be determined in July. 3)! Students must attend all ASB Activities. Be advised that there are weekend and evening commitments involved with ASB. (i.e. home football games, home basketball games, dance set ups, class fundraisers, assembly practices, Serve-a-thon, break and lunch, Mr. LC, Spring Festival, etcetera). 4)! Students must attend a series of non-asb events that average to approximately two extra student activities per month that they are not already a part (i.e. clubs, fundraisers, plays, concerts, sporting events, etc.) 5)! ASB students will be placed in the ASB STEP class with your ASB Advisor on STEP day. THIS IS AN ACADEMIC CLASS WITH A GRADE! To run for ASB you must meet the following: 1)! Have an overall academic GPA of )! Have an overall citizenship grade of 3.0 with no U s. 3)! Be in strict compliance with the LCHS Code of Conduct. FAILURE TO MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS WILL MEAN DISQUALIFICATION. Return Petition and Application to Mr. Lively in room 305 by 3:00 on Friday, April 10.

I am willing to fully participate in the ASB class. I understand that grades are based on participation in activities and in class discussions and decision-making activities. I understand that I will be held accountable for the activities of a commissioner or class officers as stated in the job description. I will remove all campaign posters on Thursday, April 23 by 3pm. The ASB class grade is based upon participation. 5 WHAT CAN I RUN FOR? SENIORS: ASB PRESIDENT ASB VICE-PRESIDENT ASB SECRETARY ASB TREASURER SENIOR PRESIDENT SENIOR VICE-PRESIDENT SENIOR SECRETARY SENIOR TREASURER SOPHOMORES: SOPHOMORE PRESIDENT SOPHOMORE VICE-PRESIDENT SOPHOMORE SECRETARY SOPHOMORE TREASURER JUNIORS: JUNIOR PRESIDENT JUNIOR VICE PRESIDENT JUNIOR SECRETARY JUNIOR TREASURER FRESHMAN: FRESHMAN PRESIDENT FRESHMAN VICE-PRESIDENT FRESHMAN SECRETARY FRESHMAN TREASURER Representatives for each class will be interviewed during the week of May You are only eligible for a representative position if you applied for a commissioner position or ran a legitimate campaign for office and lost. ASB OFFICES ASB PRESIDENT (1 Position- Year Term) You must be a senior with prior experience in ASB. 1.! Plan and lead ASB meetings. 2.! In charge of familiarizing freshman representatives. 3.! Manage all class presidents, checking in, assisting with the management and delegation of class activities and individual class position duties. 4.! Oversee ASB members and ensure that everyone is functioning effectively in their jobs, correcting or reporting conduct that falls below expectations. 5.! Provide evaluation for each subordinate member on a quarterly basis. 6.! The most important and most difficult job that a president has is transferring an idea into action. It is necessary to delegate the workflow of a project to various persons or parties. 7.! Check all minutes and purchase orders for accuracy and thoroughness. 8.! Participate in all activities, whether class or ASB. 9.! If no school board representative is appointed, you must assume these responsibilities by attending all school board meetings as the ASB representative, preparing a presentation for each meeting that accurately reflects the happenings and concerns of all schools within the district. Report back all findings of import to general ASB. 10.! Upon invitation, attend faculty and community meetings to represent student views and increase ASB awareness. 11.! When called upon to represent the general student body, public speaking is required. 12.! Establish a daily planning period with the ASB advisor, either before school, after, or during the advisor s conference period. 13.! Plan and lead the coordination of all activity weeks, including but not limited to Homecoming, Winter Formal, Backwards, Prom, and Senior Salute. 14.! Lead the school daily in the pledge of allegiance and read messages over the PA. 15.! Exemplify the traits of an exceptional leader, leading by example, exceeding all requirements set forth in the ASB course. 16.! Fulfill requirements of the ASB course. ASB VICE PRESIDENT (1 Position- Year Term) You must be a senior with prior experience in ASB. 1.! Your first and primary job is to help the president. The president is to delegate responsibility to the members of his or her cabinet and it is your job to follow up with the members on those delegations, keeping them on task. Step in for the president in the event that he or she is absent. 2.! You will be responsible for ASB elections, which includes, conducting meetings with future candidates, coordinating the election, filming speeches, reserving facilities, and checking the qualifications of the potential candidates. 3.! Help prepare ballots for elections. 4.! Assist and weigh in on the selection of freshmen representatives, council representatives, and appointed positions. 5.! Assist with the election of dance courts, creating nomination ballots and election ballots for each dance.
6 6.! Inform newspapers of election results. 7.! Mentor and train all ASB class vice presidents. 8.! Participate in all activities, class or ASB. 9.! Fulfill requirements of the ASB course. ASB TREASURER (1 Position- Year Term) You must be a senior with either prior experience in ASB or approval from the ASB advisor. 1.! It is your responsibility to coordinate all general ASB transactions and facilitate all general and class purchase order and revenue potential requests. Your duties include, but are not limited to: One, obtaining a monthly print out of the ASB balance from the ASB accountant on the first Monday of every month. It is your responsibility to know your current balance but also monitor ASB spending in order to pay for bills. Two, plan ahead, obtaining any purchase orders and minutes from the ASB accountant ahead of time. Three, complete the purchase orders pertaining to ASB, by signing, and turning in one week prior to any purchases. 2.! All cash boxes must be requested one week prior to the event. 3.! All revenue potentials, purchase orders, and activity forms must be completed -signed and approved-one week prior to the event. 4.! Mentor and train all ASB class treasurers in their duties. 5.! Participate in all activities, class or ASB. 6.! Fulfill requirements of ASB course. 7.! Meet with the ASB accountant on a weekly basis, creating the purchase order report and assisting where needed with any duties of the ASB accounts office. ASB SECRETARY (1 Position- Year Term) You must be a senior with either prior experience in ASB or approval from the ASB advisor. 1.! It is your responsibility to take and retain accurate meeting minute notes, recording ideas discussed, proposed, and pertinent commentary. 2.! Manage, draft, and publish the monthly ASB calendar and newsletter, contributing a commentary and general reflection of the upcoming ASB events. This monthly calendar will include all ASB, fine art, athletic, academic, and special events. 3.! Make signs for all general ASB activities, getting them approved by the ASB director and facilitating the posting and removal of all signs around campus. 4.! Mentor and train all ASB class secretaries. 5.! You must be present and attend all meetings. 6.! If and when needed, take over any secretary position. 7.! Create PA announcements, which celebrate the success of students and programs, and/ or urge the greater student population to come support a student or program. 8.! Participate in all activities, class or ASB. 9.! Fulfill requirements of the ASB course. CLASS OFFICES This is a general job description of offices; however, jobs change depending on grade level. CLASS PRESIDENT (1 Position Year Term) 1.! The most important and most difficult job that a president has is transferring an idea into an action. Delegation and management are key to carrying out the duties of these positions. 2.! Class presidents must attend all general and class meetings. 3.! Arrange fundraisers and events throughout the year, checking all minutes, revenue potentials, and purchase orders for accuracy and completeness. 4.! Participate in all activities, class or ASB. 5.! Fulfill requirements of the ASB course. 6.! Evaluate class officers each semester. 7.! Organize break and lunch activities and events. 8.! Responsibilities of specific classes throughout year include but are not limited to the following events:! Seniors- New Family BBQ, T-Shirts, Homecoming float, Backwards, Senior Toast, arrange graduation speakers, the Catalina trip, Senior Salute, Senior BBQ, Grad Night, etcetera.! Juniors- Homecoming float, Winter Formal, Pancake Breakfast, Prom, various fundraisers, class activities, etcetera.! Sophomores- Homecoming Float, Blood Drive (first and second semester), various fundraisers, class activities, etcetera.! Freshman- Homecoming Float, first and second semester movie nights, canned goods, and toy drives. 9.! Both the senior and junior class presidents must have prior ASB experience. CLASS VICE PRESIDENT (1 Position- Year Term) 1.! Your first and primary job is to help the president. The president is to delegate responsibility to the members of his or her cabinet and it is your job to follow up with those members on those delegations and keep them on task. 2.! Arrange and oversee the review and implementation of new and existing clubs. The senior vice president will spearhead all events associated with clubs, including club day, first and second semester club reviews, club applications, club renewals, and review implementation of new clubs. 3.! Stand in for the class president when absent. 4.! Coordinate publicity for his or her class events. 5.! Participate in all activities, class or ASB.
7 6.! Fulfill requirements of ASB course. CLASS TREASURER (1 Position- Year Term) 1.! You are to obtain a monthly print out of your class balance from the ASB accountant on the first Monday of every month. Once completely signed, please return to the ASB accountant for processing. 4.! All cash boxes must be requested one week prior to the event. 5.! All activity forms must be completed, signed, and approved one week prior to the event. 6.! Participate in all activities, class or ASB. 7.! Fulfill requirements of the ASB course. CLASS SECRETARY (1 Position- Year Term) 1.! Take minutes at every class meeting, including topics discussed, ideas proposed, and the outcome of votes. Assist the treasurer with fulfilling his or her duties of office, completing the required paperwork 2.! If purchase orders are involved, work with the treasurer to make sure that they are recorded properly on the minutes. 3.! Help with all class activities. 4.! Participate in all activities, class or ASB. 5.! Fulfill requirements of the ASB course.
