4 President s Report Last Sunday was our first Club Fellowship event of this Rotary Year. I am really happy that 39 people graced this fellowship. I believe that everyone enjoyed the afternoon. The smiles told me so. So, there will definitely be more fellowship events this Rotary year. Just sign in as and when they are announced. The next fellowship is being planned for 8 th November We are planning for the Christmas Party & Kris Kringle on 6 th December The Fundraising Committee will meet again on Tuesday 13 th September, after the regular meeting. The promotion/sales of the Tom Burlinson Concert (8 th October 2016) at the Croydon Central (Market) was on Thursday till Saturday last. My thanks go to David Ferres, John Hexter, Eric Thomas, John Anderson, Brian McDaid, Lou Davies, Kevin Francis and, Bev Stehn for spending time manning the counter during their respective slots. Our final sales pitch will be at the Chirnside Park Shopping Centre on next Thursday to Saturday (15-17). A little bird whispered to me that we have attained the break-even mark in sales. Hence, from now on all sales will add badly needed funds to our community account. Members who made seat reservations without payment are kindly requested to surrender unsold seats by 20 th September. Failure to do so will mean that these will be treated as sold. This rule is to ensure that all unsold seats are available for purchase through Trybooking (or for sales on the evening of the concert, if still unsold). Our meeting on 13 th September will see 2 young students who were at MUNA telling us of their experience. Following that we will have 2 winners of the Primary Schools Speech Contests thrilling us with their speeches. The last meeting of the month on September 27 th will be a club forum. The topic for discussion will be The future direction of Rotary Club of Croydon. I will present a compilation of the various views of members and partners that I have noted during the gatherings of small groups over the last few months. Members can then discuss and recommend on the wither to of the club so that the pending amendments to the club rules and bylaws will reflect them. I have appointed a committee comprising Tony Wright, Greg O Neill, and Kevin Francis to work on the amendments before bringing them to the club for further discussion. Cheers, Joy Varughese

9 TOM BURLINSON performs The Best of SINATRA! Presented by: Downunder Promotions Presenting Australian star of stage and screen Tom Burlinson. Accompanied by his All Star Band,Tom sings all the wonderful songs of Sinatra in his prime. In 1991 Tom was chosen by Tina Sinatra to sing the voice of her father in the Golden Globe Award-winning mini series Sinatra. This led to a whole new musical development in his career. He created his own show in celebration of the great man, Frank- A Life in Song, which became hugely successful all around Australia, and also travelled to Toronto, Canada. The great entrepreneur Steve Wynn invited Tom to perform at his Wynn Las Vegas resort in Later came the national tour of Now We re Swingin!, in which Tom paid homage not only to Sinatra, but also to some of the other great stars of vocal swing - Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jnr, and Bobby Darin as well as Harry Connick Jnr and Michael Buble. Tom also toured around the country with a smaller musical ensemble performing Simply Sinatra. The original 1966 album Sinatra at the Sands has been described as brilliant, incredibly exciting, the definitive portrait of Sinatra in the 60 s, essential, a priceless document and simply the best. Tom Burlinson has proven that he is one of the best in the world at Sinatra-inspired singing. He is renowned for his smooth style and astonishing performance skills. Don t miss this wonderful show as Tom will once again do justice to the marvellous musical legacy of the Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra. The next best thing to Sinatra - The Courier Mail 8 pm. Saturday 8 th October 2016 George Woods Performing Arts Centre, Yarra Valley Grammar School Kalinda Road, Ringwood Tickets: $40
