TODAY'S PROGRAM Today's program was a photographic presentation by John and Joyce Joyce on their recent trip to Antartica. After a few days in Santiago, Chile, they spent 17 days cruising through the Chilean Fjords, Patagonia, Strait of Magellan, Beagle Channel and over to Antartica where they made several landings. In addition to penguins of several types, they visited an abandoned whaling station, a Ukranian research station (where Joyce donated an item of clothing - in exchange for a glass of vodka) and yes, a swimming hole! They reported that the penguins are adorable, unafraid of people and they could smell the penguin colonies from their ship. They saw many glaciers and the icebergs were huge and beautiful. After the cruise portion of the trip, they visited Buenos Aires, Argentina and enjoyed warm weather and sightseeing which included Eva Peron's burial mausoleum and a boat trip on the delta where there are many lovely homes. They highly recommend the trip and reported that the temperatures during the Antarctic portion were generally between 28 and 34 degrees, F. NEXT MEETING At our next meeting on May 14 we will have our quarterly Club Assembly - an opportunity to become more informed about the activities and

GOLF OUTING COMING Our Annual Ray Filipchuk Memorial Golf Outing will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009 at Sycamore Hills Golf Course, North Avenue at 21 1/2 Mile Rd. We will have a "Golf Ball Drop" raffle numbered balls will be dropped and 5 winners will receive up to $500 each. Tickets will cost $5 apiece. Mike Saigh expects to distribute the tickets next week and suggests selling them in multiples. Start planning your sales strategies now so that this fundraiser will be a big success. Golfers, hole signs and advertisements for the programs are also needed and you can contact Chair Mike Saigh for more details. PRESIDENTS NIGHT Presidents Night for our Club will be held at Ike's Family Dining, Van Dyke, Sterling Heights, on the evening of Thursday, June 18, Save the date so you can be sure to attend this special 40th anniversary event of our Club. Attending were Marty Brown, John and Joyce Joyce, Merle and Jan Loch, Jean O'Brien and Rich Sparks. The Lochs led the very moving Memorial Service and John and Jan lit the candle in memory of Skip Wilke. Jan led us in singing the song she wrote for the next District

5 Page 5 of 8 Conference (May 2010 at Dearborn Inn) - "On To Dearborn." Tammy Turgeon and Fred Gravelle represented our Club at the Utica Career Focus programs. Two students were selected for and awarded the two scholarships ($500 each) that our Club provides through the Sterling Heights Community Foundation. The Childrens Art Garden Dedication will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 9 at the Sterling Heights Library. Our Club contributed to this project. Keller-Wlliams Realty (Rich Sparks' employer) is holding a Mother's Day Flower Sale, beginning at 9 AM, on May 9-10 at Dodge Park Road, Sterling Heights. Proceeds will go to KW Cares, a charity of Keller-Williams. COMPUTER CORNER by John Joyce Club Member Directories One of the features of using ClubRunner facilities for both a Club and a District is a common database, which is the master database for member information at both levels. In other words, it is very important to maintain accurate information in ClubRunner since the same ClubRunner database is used by both the Club and the District. Accurate, up-to-date information about a member is then derived from this database. In addition to providing directory information, photos are useful, especially to new members, in

6 Page 6 of 8 order to identify and become familiar with other members in the Club. The following directories are available to members of the Club: View Club Directory (all members). View Club Photo Directory (all members). View Printable Directory (all members). View Mailing Labels Directory (if the member has sufficient access). In each case log into the website All member information is secure because the information is not viewable without using a member login and password. In the box on the left hand side labeled My ClubRunner (when you are in the ADMIN screen), select View Club Directory. At the top left click on Display Regular Members. If you wish to print this list on paper, click on Printer Friendly Version. This gives you member names, their address and business and home telephone numbers in a very compact form. Alternatively, you may select View Club Photo Directory. This option gives much more information for each member. By clicking on the member name or the photo, you will view whatever the person has stored in his/her profile. You may choose to click on View Printable Directory for printout of information for all members. If a member has sufficient access then mailing labels can also be printed out.

7 Page 7 of 8 It is the responsibility of each member to protect the information of other members from being improperly used. RAFFLE/SHERIFF Linda Wenger took charge of our weekly raffle today and awarded the cash prizes to Fred Gravelle (who had to leave but Merle volunteered to deliver his winnings - Fred - be sure you get all $1000 of it! (Yes, this editor is kidding about the amount.) and John Joyce. Nick Casteel won Kerm's Koins, two Puerto Rico quarters in the new Territories set. Nick Casteel then won the week's mystery prize - a miniature radio. Editor's note: All the above people were sitting at the SAME table! Kinda makes one wonder, huh! Then Wayne Dula (at a different table) broke the first table's hold on the prizes and won a special mystery prize donated by ever generous Kerm Billette - two District of Columbia quarters. Sheriff Steve Neirinck had an easy time today as several people volunteered money. Clark Andrews announced that his daughter graduated from MSU, Wayne Dula announced that his daughter is graduating from Hope College, just turned 21 and became engaged, Wayne also announced that after over 3 years of unemployment, he has been hired by a manufacturing firm in Plymouth. Mike Saigh announced that he has a grand-daughter graduating from college, a son-in-law graduating from college and a grandson making his confirmation - all three events on the same day. Great triple-play Mike! Yes, lots of fun and laughs, as usual.
