Happy Corvetteing: Mark Mosteiko Membership Chairperson IN THIS ISSUE PAGE News 1 A word from the Editor 1 Birthdays 2 Officers and Board 2 Karl SEZ 2 Through The Windshield 3 Corvette Cruising 4 Corvette Cruising Cont d 5&6 Bits and Pieces 7 Club Calendar 8 From the Editor Ron Kruse One of the items on my Bucket List is buying a brand new Corvette someday. Corvettes have always been a bargain over the price you would have to pay for a comparable (and some not so comparable, one way or the other) sports car. There have been times when the price might have been at or close to sticker. For some models, dealers were asking thousands over sticker, especially special models like pace cars etc. In the early to mid nineties, dealers advertised prices thousands of dollars off sticker, making Corvette a truly bargain basement purchase. I was day dreaming the other day while surfing the net and confirmed, once again, a new Corvette can be a bargain. Dealers are now offering price reductions, some as much as $10,000 and with substantial reductions for special models too. Several weeks ago Dick Kesler sent me an article indicating high inventories, suggesting many dealers are anxious to bargain once again, including Corvettes. To paraphrase Dickens, these are the worst of times and best of times. The bad news is that our current economy prevents most of us from considering the expense of a new car this year. It is however, the best of times for those that have the financial ability to buy a Vette now. There are tremendous bargains available. Since I m retired, etc. etc., I guess I ll have to keep on dreaming!! Ron CORVETTE HEARTBEAT, SCC NEWS AUGUST, 2008 PAGE 1

If you want to find out how original your Corvette is, a little research is involved. Keep in mind that GM had a lot of detailed records of every Corvette built but a lot of records have disappeared over the years. The thought that the Corvette would be collectible wasn't established until the late 1970's. You can contact the National Corvette Museum where you can usually purchase a copy of the build sheet and window sticker for your Corvette. For earlier models you should start by finding Corvette books such as Corvette By the Numbers. Information can also be found on the car itself, such as the vehicle trim tag or, original gas tank sticker, Also look behind the carpets or behind door panels for original paperwork. Another source could be to track back to the previous owners. This might take some time and a little research, but you never know what interesting information you might find. Good luck! 4 CORVETTE CRUISING AROUND Brunch With Barry - June Story courtesy of Barry Bracken June Brunch with Barry was another good one! Frank Pilla told me about The Old Dixie Café a few months ago. Based on his description I decided to put it on my list of places that I should consider for a future cruise. I was not disappointed. Twenty six members and guests joined me for great food and service on a very sticky morning. They were the Russe s, Fisher s, Scott s, Mark Mosteiko, Barbara Cole, Hinken s, Rob Nienkemper, Shaw s, Frank Pilla, Sterling s with Pat s brother from Maryland, Harry Wyrtzen, Saxner s, Pazmann s, Gladwin s and the Bracken s. We met at Blockbuster and cruised down through Jensen Beach, Port Salerno and on to Jupiter Island. There was an open house being held in one of the larger homes and I thought that some on my crew with lots of money would stop and put in a bid. Gladly no one fell out of line. Brunch was more important at this time. We arrived at the café at 11:15 AM right on schedule. Terry, the owner met us at the door and had our section all ready for us, just as he promised. He had put on extra staff for our party and the food was served hot and very quickly. The staff was friendly and efficient. We were all served within a half hour and then they gave us a coupon for a 15% discount on top of the already reasonable prices. Overall the entire group was very satisfied with the cruise and the choice of The Old Dixie Café. Come join us next month for a new adventure. Great friends, great food and great cars! Life is good. Save the wave BARRY.================================================================== CORVETTE HEARTBEAT, SCC NEWS AUGUST, 2008 PAGE 4

5 CORVETTE CRUISING AROUND Night Rider On the evening of Wednesday July 2nd, at 6:45 PM 40 SCC members met behind Blockbuster Video on US 1 in Port St Lucie for a brief meeting. Shortly thereafter, they caravanned to The Pirates Loft Restaurant for dinner and an enjoyable get together. Many thanks to Adele and Harry Wyrtzen who planned this month s event. Congratulations to Sandy Lagana who won the 50/50 raffle =================================================================== Brunch With Barry - July Story courtesy of Barry Bracken Josef's at the Saints Golf Course was our destination for this month's Brunch with Barry. 23 members and guests showed up for what turned out to be a very pleasant morning of eating and chatting. The Russe's, Fisher's, Hinken's, Shaw's, Wyrtzen's, Pazmann's, Kruse's, Saxner's and their guests the Carroll's, Bill Scott, Bob Nienkemper, John Clegg and the Bracken's met at 10:00 AM and headed to our destination. Although it wasn't a long cruise, the trip through the communities on Westmorland served some relief from the traffic of US 1 on a Friday morning. The staff and food were wonderful and they tried their best to make us feel at home. I recommend Josef s when you are looking for some local place to eat, give them a try. We will not have a Brunch with Barry in August, as Deanna and I will be in Pa. celebrating my mother s 90th birthday. There will be a Brunch with Harry at Finns on the water instead. I am planning a Saturday trip again for September so watch for details in future notices from the club, so shine them up and let's get those Vettes on the road. Great friends, great cars, life is good. BARRY.================================================================== CORVETTE HEARTBEAT, SCC NEWS AUGUST, 2008 PAGE 5

6 CORVETTE CRUISING AROUND-CONTINUED.BASEBALL GAME Story and photos courtesy of Dan Kikkert The 3rd annual Stuart Corvette Club cruise to Tradition Stadium for a St. Lucie Mets game was another great success. The weather was perfect and there was plenty of food to go around. Twenty-nine SCC members caravanned from Blockbuster Video on US 1 in Port St Lucie to Tradition field in St Lucie West on Saturday 7/5. The Mets were losing 3-0 until the bottom of the 7th when the Mets hit a 3-run home run and tied the game. The Mets won the game 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the 8th inning for another exciting finish. After the game we all enjoyed a spectacular firework display which capped off a great evening. Hope to see you all at next year's game. Thanks to all who attended this year s event.
