1 FLORIDA GULF COAST VCCA NEWSLETTER Sept-Oct 2018 Volume 4 Issue 9 & 10 VCCA GULF COAST REGION CALENDAR We need to start thinking about the 2019 Member Calendars. Gordon King has submitted his 1933 Chevrolet Panel Truck, Dennis Denninger s 2007 Chevrolet Corvette for the month of November, Steve Ogle s 1926 Chevrolet Jitney Bus, and Jim Gephardt s 1955 Chevrolet. Tom Burtch is going to submit a picture of his restoration of the 1926 Chevrolet Superior. So we need 7 more months to fill. We need a high resolution photo of your car/truck and send it to me. Either a complete restoration or a project in the works will work. In order to have the calendar done for the December meeting, photos need to be sent to me no later than November 15 th CAR SHOW We have one more car show meeting planned, the meeting will be October 13 th at 1 PM at Tom Burtchs shop in Clearwater. The attached minutes have the address for the location. The meeting at Tom s shop is to put together the goody bags and to attend to any last minute details. Also, we can never have too many give aways for the show, so gift cards, donations and anything else that you can think of, please give to Bob Berstel MEMBER INFORMATION We have two T-shirts, one XL and one L if anyone is interested, $12 at a meeting or $14 mailed. Contact Patrick Kroeger NEWSLETTER ANNOUNCEMENT Any items that you would like to see in the Newsletter, tech articles, photos, etc. please send to me pkroeger@tampabay.rr.com. VOTING PROCEDURES 2018 The term of office is expiring for our Club Officers at the end of September. All current officers will continue until our Election that will be held at the Picnic meeting at John Chestnut Park in East Lake in mid-november. The officer positions for re-election are Director, Vice Director, Secretary and Treasurer. Anyone interested in running for these positions, please contact Secretary Tom Burtch and inform him that you are interested in a position. Deadline for submitting for election will be October 28 th and the proposed officer slate provided to the members by October 31 st. Here is the wording of the by-law change that was voted in at the December meeting that will be effective for this year s election.
2 FLORIDA GULF COAST VCCA NEWSLETER PAGE 2 Voting Procedures (Cont d) Section 1. The elected officers of a Region shall be: Region Director/President Assistant Region Director/Vice President Secretary Treasurer Said officers shall hold office for a two year term from the date of election or until their successors are duly elected and qualified Region Director and Secretary will have an initial two year term and the Assistant Director and Treasurer will have an initial one year term and then go to a two year term thereafter. This will be effective for the election for end of year If there is an unopposed person for a position, they can be reaffirmed by a majority vote of members at the November meeting. Multiple persons for a single position will be selected by secret ballot by members present, after each person has a 5 to 10 minute period to state their qualifications and objectives. NEXT MEETING DATES, TIME & LOCATION Our November meeting date will be November 18 th at John Chestnut Park in East Lake. This will be our Fall picnic meeting from 11 AM to 4 PM at shelter 13. The Club will provide Hamburgers, Hot Dogs and condiments and paper products. Side dishes are always a great idea! This would also be a good excuse to have a mini car show and I am reasonably certain that my truck will be able to make it and back home under its own power rather than on the back of a flatbed truck. One piece of business that we have to take care of at the November meeting will be our election of officers. Front page of newsletter has the information regarding this We need volunteers to make our Car Show a success. As mentioned in the minutes, Tom indicated areas that we will need assistance. In addition to those listed, we will need help in setup the day of and help about a week in front of the show to assemble the goodie bags. For your tireless efforts I can assure that you will receive a sun burn, exhaustion, in need of shower by days end and the thought that we will have 12 months to plan for the next one.

Rogers Silversmiths for about 20 years to have him restore various items that I need to have done such as the GMC nameplates on my truck and recently he restored a 1957 Mack VIN plate. He does really fantastic work and at a really reasonable prices. He has done in the past re-slivering of head lamp reflectors for classic cars and any and all metal polishing NOTE: Items listed will run for two issues and then deleted. 4 FLORIDA GULF COAST VCCA NEWSLETER PAGE 4 Minutes of VCCA Gulf Coast Region monthly meeting September 27, 2018 Attendance: - Hal Bruce - Jim Blanton - Dennis Denninger - John Hackett - Steve Ogle - Bob Bernstel - Al Robinson - Patrick Kroeger - Andy Swaney - Tom Burtch - Gordon King Meeting Location: Captain Jack s Bar & Grill, 21 Oscar Hill Rd, Tarpon Springs FL, The meeting was called to order by Patrick Kroeger at 6:30 PM. Minutes of the 8/23/18 meeting were accepted as distributed. President s comments: Patrick welcomed Steve Ogle to the meeting as this is the first general meeting that Steve has attended. Steve recently joined the Gulf Coast region and is the custodian of a 1926 Chevrolet jitney bus which is owned by the Tarpon Springs Historical Society and has a long history of transportation service in Tarpon Springs. Treasurers Report and Membership Update: As of August 31, 2018, the Gulf Coast region bank balance was $1, and membership stood at 27. Al reported that most of the car show costs are paid and we have a strong enough bank balance to cover the remaining costs regardless of turnout. Al also reminded us that Gulf Coast region memberships are due for renewal by year end. Please include a completed form (available on the website with your renewal payment. Dues are $20 per year for renewing members and can be paid in person at any regional meeting or by mail to Al Robinson, 3212 Tanglewood Trail, Palm Harbor, FL Contact list: Tom Burtch distributed a new member contact list which is updated for a change of address for Al Robinson. All other information is unchanged from the prior list. A copy is attached to the minutes as a separate file for internal use among members. Please contact Tom at tomsoldcarhobby@yahoo.com if you wish to make any changes to your contact data. Guest Speaker - John Hackett: John shared several interesting stories about experiences in appraising unusual vehicles or situations. One recent assignment was the appraisal of the Corvettes lost or damaged in the sinkhole collapse at the National Corvette museum in Bowling Green KY.
5 FLORIDA GULF COAST VCCA NEWSLETER PAGE 5 John spoke about the concept of diminished value claims which are particularly important for unique, high value vehicles, but not often applicable to ordinary collector vehicles without unique provenance. John does value appraisals for all vehicles and recommends keeping a current appraisal on hand. Besides knowing what your vehicle is worth, a current appraisal also helps to establish a proper base if needed for insurance claims which otherwise may be difficult to value. John s business contact information is: , jchackett833@gmail.com. Vehicle Photos: Patrick reminded us of the need to get photos of your old car or truck to him for inclusion in our 2019 calendar. The calendars depend on your pictures, so please take one and send it to Patrick Kroeger (pkroeger@tampabay.rr.com). Second Annual Gulf Coast Region Car Show The next car show planning meeting will be on Saturday October 13 th at 1 pm at Tom Burtchs workshop at US Hwy 19 N, Clearwater, FL We will be packing the goody bags, organizing trophies and door prizes and covering any last-minute details. Bob Bernstel shared the list of prizes collected to date and we have good sponsor support for the show. Full goody bags and many door prizes really help to excite the participants, so this is a key activity. Thanks to Bob and all who have brought in the strong level of donations. There is still time to get more donations for the goody bags or trophy sponsorship and to distribute flyers to promote the show. If you have any donations or items to add to the door prizes, please get them to Bob Bernstel or at least call him so he can update the donations lists and bring the items to the meeting on October 13. Our second annual VCCA Gulf Coast Region car show is on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at East Lake United Methodist Church, 2801 East Lake Road, Palm Harbor, FL. We need as many volunteers as possible on the day of the show, so please advise Patrick or Bob if you can attend and if you have any preference for your assignment on the day of the show. Election of Officers: The annual election of officers will be held at the general meeting on November 18 th (at the picnic). If you are interested in serving in one of the four elected positions, please contact Tom Burtch at tomsoldcarhobby@yahoo.com or (727) by November 9. The officer positions are: Region Director/ President, Assistant Region Director/Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Next Meetings: We will not have a general meeting in October but look forward to seeing you at the car show on the 20 th. Our next general meeting is on Sunday, November 18 th at John Chestnut Park. We will have a picnic followed by the general meeting. 50/50 Draw: The 50/50 draw was again well supported. Hal Bruce was the winner and donated his prize back to the club for a net addition of $40 to our bank account. Thank you, Hal. Meeting adjourned 7:55 PM. Minutes prepared by: Tom Burtch, Secretary - VCCA Gulf Coast Region
