1 Beyond the Glass August 2010 From the President It seems the summer just began and we are in August already. Where does the time go when we have our Corvettes out to enjoy? That reminded me, at our next meeting we should look toward planning our Leaf Run for this fall. Think about taking charge of this fun event and taking us on a mystery tour. I m sure Emily would appreciate input and help as she has a lot of things going. There are a lot of events coming up in the next few months, so check our club web site often as it is updated as events come in to us. Special thanks to Bob Bitterman for his help with the art work for NCM Banner and our logo for Miracles in Motion. Also I don t want to forget Bob Baker for his work as CRCC main contact with NCM and getting us in on the parking lot Banner At our next meeting we will present part B of Standing Rule: Election Ties. Part B deals with how spoiled Ballot will be handled and what constitutes a spoiled Ballot. Part A of this Standing Rule put in place the guide lines to break a tie if one should occur for an elected office and was passed at our July meeting. 2 Cedar Rapids Corvette Club Beyond the Glass August 2010 Cedar Rapids Corvette Club Minutes Meeting July 15, 2010 Madeline Watertor Secretary The meeting was called by President Tom Oakley at 7:25 P.M. The meeting was held at Pat McGrath Chevyland with 63 members present. President Tom Oakley asked the trustees for a count of the members present at the meeting. Guests present were: Pat McGrath, Darryl Tower, Barbara Muller and Brian Richardson. Darryl Tower is from Miracles In Motion. Brian Richardson owns a 2004 C5 Red Corvette. Brian and wife Felicia were voted in as new members. President Tom Oakley thanked members for their e- mails and get well cards. Gary Cummings won a car engine, and Marsha Abney s sister and her husband were visiting from Texas. Terry Kocher reported Cindi s mother was in hospice and was not doing well. President Tom Oakley thanked Pat McGrath for his sponsorship, and all he does for CRCC. President Ton Oakley presented Pat with a plaque and a clock with a pen and pencil set. The plaque and clock with pen and pencil set were made by Al Willenborg. Tom Oakley and Sandy reported their son Maj. John Oakley has been accepted to Resident school at Ft Leavenworth. He will complete Advance Operations and War fighting. This will complete his Masters Degree and requirements for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel. Several members are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries in July. Check out the calendar in the newsletter. Darryl Tower talked to members about a tailgate party event to be held in September at the Amana colonies. Best Buy will install 12 big screen TV s, the Amana Furniture Shop is making the boxes and logos. St. Luke s Hospital would like to be a sponsor for the event. CRCC will be doing the judging for the bag toss event. Texas Road House and Panchero s will be supplying food. The date of the event is September 18, Sixteen members are needed to judge the bag toss. Paul Hildebrand volunteered himself and Gary Cummings to chair the judging committee. President Tom Oakley asked for any additions or corrections to the minutes of the June meeting. There were no additions or corrections to the minutes. President Tom Oakley called for a motion to approve the minutes as written. A motion was made Bob Parrish and was seconded by John Watertor to approve the minutes as written. The motion was passed. Treasurer Larry Bushaw was absent from the meeting. Vice President Mike Williams presented the club s financial report. President Tom Oakley called for a motion to approve the financial report as presented. A motion was made by John Dolphin and was seconded by John Baker to approve the financial report as presented. The motion was passed. Vice Presented Mike Williams reported he had money for the fifty-fifty drawing, and also reported there would be drawings for five more prizes. Secretary Madeline Watertor had nothing to report. No Get Well Cards or Sympathy Cards had been sent out since the last meeting. Governor Larry Beebe reported governors will be using a new database. The 2010 convention will be in West Palm Beach, Fl. The 2012 convention will be in Topeka, Ks. The National Kidney Foundation Raffle Car will be a 2010 Six Speed Black Gran Sport. Competition Director Chris Beebe reported there will be a Practice Auto Cross on August 21, 2010 at Hawkeye Downs. There will be a tech session on August 27th at the Clarion. There will be twelve low speed sanctioned Auto Cross events on August 28th and 29th at Hawkeye Downs. Chris had sign-up sheets for workers. New cones have been ordered. Chris thanked John Watertor for counting out cones and taking care of the cones the Corvair Club borrowed for its Auto Cross Event. John made sure the cones were in good condition when they were returned. Also Chris reported there would be high and low speed events at Newton, Iowa on August 14th and 15th. Social Director Emily Rozinek reported there were 22 members at Phat Daddys. Riverside Casino is having a Car Show on August 7th. The Tuesday August Dinner will be at Scorz on August 10th. Homecoming Director Bob Baker was absent from the meeting. The Homecoming Director s report was given by Diane Bowen. Diane reported Bob is waiting for information for the schools regarding their Homecoming events. Editor Karla McMurrin reported all information to be printed in the newsletter should be received by Thursday July 22, Please send Karla all information you would like to see in the newsletter. Historian Dianna Knutson was absent from the meeting. Dianna and Lyle were out East visiting their new grandson. Check out the club s web site prepared by Web Master Larry Bushaw. Car Show Co-Chairman Dick Butschi reported he will tie up lose ends from the car show. President Tom Oakley stated he appreciated all the work that was done for the car show. The trustees reported there were 63 members present at the meeting. Pat Fritz has the treat calendar. Anyone wishing to bring treats to the meetings should contact Pat. President Tom Oakley reported the Trustees have been working on a standing rule to be adopted when there is a tie vote for officer elections. Trustee Larry Armbrecht reported the Trustees and three past Presidents of CRCC were involved in deciding the standing rule. The Standing Rule for Election Ties reads as follows: Should a tie for an elected office occur, the three current trustees will break that tie. The three trustees voting will be done with a paper ballot, without discussion and promptly at the vote counting session. This will assure a majority winner efficiently and quickly without any further action necessary by the membership. President Tom Oakley called for a motion to accept the standing rule. A motion was made by Vice President Mike Williams and was seconded by Trustee Larry Armbrecht to accept the standing rule. The motion was carried by a vote of 46 for and 4 against. Vice President Mike Williams reported schools are asked for a donation for CRCC supplying cars for their homecoming events. Mike suggested CRCC think about asking for a donation when other places ask for Corvettes. This suggestion will be discussed at the next meeting. Mike also reported The Cannon Ball Run will pass thru Cedar Rapids on October 1, Palo will be having a Parade on August 28th. Cars will be needed for this event. President Tom Oakley reported members should wear name tags at the meeting. Name tag can be ordered from Al Willenborg. Pat Fritz was the winner of the fifty-fifty drawing. President Tom Oakley called for a motion to adjourn the meeting. A motion was made by John Dolphin and was seconded by Dawn Marsden to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 P.M. The next meeting will be on August 19, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.

4 Cedar Rapids Corvette Club Beyond the Glass August 2010 Let s Eat! Tuesday August 10: "CRCC evening dinner outing/cruise night." We will be going to "Scorz" in Mt Vernon, Iowa. The cruise will leave the Marion WalMart at 6:00 PM with dinner to be at 7:00 PM. Emily would like a head count please - contact her at: erozinek@keystonesenior.com TIDBITS & TRIVIA Reminder that Mike Becker from Hawkeye Downs is allowing two free passes to all CRCC members that show their cars before the races on the 2nd & 4th Fridays of the month. The cars are displayed inside the gate so security isn t a problem and they could use out support. This Friday would be a great time to start. 5 Cedar Rapids Corvette Club Beyond the Glass August 2010 Wanted: VOLUNTEERS FOR JUDGING CORN BAG TOSS Training Seminar set for Thursday, August 12, 7:00 pm at St. Elizabeth parking lot. Darryl Tower will be training us as judges. We would like to have 25 volunteers. Training will last approximately 1 hour. Call Paul Hildebrand or if you have questions, or just show up on Thursday. This is Darryl Tower with a corn bag platform, made by the Amana Furniture Factory.

7 Cedar Rapids Corvette Club Beyond the Glass August 2010 Competition News August 21, 2010 is the date for the second practice autocross held at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids. Course setup will start at 8:00AM. Tech and registration starts at 10:00AM. Practice autocross begins at 12 Noon until 5:00PM. Run as many times as you want or your tires last! Very nominal fee of $10 per driver. August 27, 28 & 29, 2010 are the dates for the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club hosted Autocross at the Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids. A Corvette weekend filled with speed and excitement! Tech sessions are available on Friday night at the Clarion Hotel on 33rd Avenue (hospitality room available also). Racing starts at 9:00AM on both Saturday and Sunday. There will also be a pizza party at the Clarion Hotel on Saturday night for all racers and track workers. This event is held in conjunction with the Muscatine Corvette Club. Snacks/deserts for the pizza party on Saturday are requested.
