1 FROM THE PRESIDENT On Sunday, September 18 th, several CRCC members were in the Amana's to judge the corn bag toss tournament. The rain did fall on the way to and back along with light sprinkles off and on during the tournament. CRCC was there to the end and everyone had a good time. Thank you to Chris Thompson for taking charge of this event again and to all that helped out. We had eighteen members at the Cedar Rapids Airport to greet the Honor Flight when they returned on Tuesday, September 13th. The next Honor Flight will be Tuesday, October 18 th, at the Cedar Rapids Airport. Arrival time should be 10:15 PM and I would love to see more members there. The first flight in April was late returning and getting everyone off took time and made for a late night for everyone. This time it was on time and we were leaving the airport parking lot by 11:10 PM. Club members Steve Luense and John Dolphin were on the flight as guardians and shared their experience with the club during our September meeting. Again thanks to all that took the time to come to the airport and thank the veterans for their service to our country. Homecoming parades are in full go mode and thanks to our great members, they have filled up fast. We are just a few drivers short of having them all filled at the time of this writing. Brian Richardson has put a lot of time into setting up a sign-up web page that is easy to use and shows what parades and the number of Corvettes needed. He has moved us from the twenty to the twentyfirst century. I know I speak for all of us, THANK you Brian. Our October meeting will be on the 20th. We will be presenting checks to our Charities from the funds raised during our June car show. Would love to see as many as possible attend this meeting. Pat McGrath will also have food for us, so please come by 6:15PM to fill your plate before the meeting starts. The charities for our 2012 car show will be decided at this meeting. FYI, Vinton Braille and Sight Saving School no longer has resident students. They are moving in a different direction to help across the state. Carla Morrow would still like to offer the Spring Fling but will know more in February of Gary Cummings is organizing our Fall Leaf Run. Knowing Gary, I know this will be a fun cruise with great food when we get to the end. Plan on attending this last fling before old man winter slams us. Nominations for 2012 officers will be held at our November meeting. Please think about running for an office; it would be great to have two candidates for each office. New members feel free to run as new ideas and thinking will only make the club stronger. Until we meet again, take care. 2 Cedar Rapids Corvette Club Meeting Minutes September 15, 2011 Madeline Watertor, Secretary The meeting was called to order by President Tom Oakley at 7:00 PM. The meeting was held at Pat McGrath Chevyland with 33 members in attendance. President Tom Oakley asked the Trustees to take a count of the number of members present at the meeting. President Tom Oakley told members if they wanted to pay their club dues they could give him the check and he would mail it to Governor Larry Beebe. President Tom Oakley also announced that his son John was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. John is in the U.S. Army. Guests present were John Gilbert and Gordy Nordgren. John owns a 2010 Grand Sport Coupe, and Gordy owns a 2000 C5 Triple Black Corvette Convertible. Gordy was a CRCC member three years ago. President Tom Oakley read the list of members celebrating anniversaries and birthdays during the month of September. President Tom Oakley reported that Dawn Marsden lost her battle with cancer. President Tom Oakley asked for any additions or corrections to the minutes of the August meeting. There were no additions or corrections to the minutes. President Tom Oakley called for a motion to approve the minutes as written. A motion was made by Bob Parrish and was seconded by Lyle Knutson to approve the minutes. The motion was carried. Vice President Mike Williams reported a great night was enjoyed at the return of the Honor Flight participants. There were many comments about the plaques given to the veterans. Treasurer Larry Bushaw presented the clubs financial report. President Tom Oakley called for a motion to approve the financial report as presented. A motion was Beyond the Glass 2 made by Garland Groom and was seconded by John Baker to approve the financial report as presented. The motion was carried. Secretary Madeline Watertor reported a sympathy donation was sent to Dave Marsden for the death of Dawn Marsden, a sympathy card was sent to John Dolphin for the death of his sister, and get well cards were sent to Margie Thompson and Terry Kocher. Governor Larry Beebe was not present at the meeting. Competition Director Chris Beebe was not present at the meeting. Garland Groom reported he had received many good comments from National Competition Director Jack Wilson. Mr. Wilson thought the Autocross at Hawkeye Downs was the best he had ever seen. Social Director Roger Thompson was not present at the meeting. Homecoming Director Brian Richardson was not present at the meeting. The Homecoming report was given by Felicia Richardson. Felicia reported that Brian wanted to thank members that participated in the homecoming events. Felicia passed the list around for more cars that are needed for the events. Editor Kathy Willenborg was not present at the meeting. The Editor s report was given by Al Willenborg. Al reported all information to be printed in the newsletter must be received by Wednesday September 21, Historian Dianna Knutson would like pictures from homecoming events. Dianna takes pictures of members and their cars. Trustee Larry Armbrecht reported there were 33 members present at the meeting. President Tom Oakley reported National Corvette Museum Ambassador Bob Baker sent the CRCC banner design to the National Museum.

3 Webmaster Larry Bushaw reported he has been keeping the club s website up to date. Messenger Bob Bowen was absent from the meeting. There were no reports from the Car Show Chairmen. President Tom Oakley reported that Karla Morrow from the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School told him there would not be any residential students at the school next year. Karla wants to continue the spring events at the school, but will know more by February Discussion of the 2012 charities will take place at the October meeting. George Letson was the winner of the 50/50 drawing. President Tom Oakley called for a motion to adjourn the meeting. A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Paul Hildebrand and was seconded by Karla McMurrin. The motion was carried. The next meeting will be on October 20, 2011 at Pat McGrath Chevyland. To my CRCC family, Chris Thompson reported on the Corn Bag Toss to be held at the Amana Colonies on September 18, Hopefully all the judges for the event had received s about the event. Chris reported there would be 20 judges for the event. Gary Cummings is in charge of organizing the annual Leaf Run. Larry Armbrecht reported the Halloween Party will be on Saturday October 8, The event will be a Potluck. Cost is $6.00 per person which CRCC will pay. The event will start about 5:00 PM. Do not bring your corvettes. John Dolphin thanked members for sympathy cards and s for the death of his sister. John reported on the Honor Flight program. John was a guardian on the September flight. A great day was had by all. John s fellow was 93 years old. It was the first time the man had been on a large plane, and it was the first time he was in Washington D.C. The oldest person was 97 years old. The next Honor Flight will be on October 18, Steve Luense reported Hy-Vee will develop film from the Honor Flights for free. President Tom Oakley reported the donation checks for the club s charities will be presented at the October meeting. I would like to express our gratitude for the outpouring of support from all of you during our very difficult times. The kind thoughts, the cards, and phone calls of encouragement, the visits, and all the prayers were very comforting. The donations have been sent to Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. It was so wonderful to see you at the Visitation and/or the funeral, and the caravan of Corvettes was so awesome. We had so many nice comments from our family and friends regarding the Club. Dawn and I have enjoyed so many good times with so many of you over the past years, lots of good memories!!!!! Thank you, Dave Beyond the Glass 3

4 Selected Peculiars Elegantly Edited and Delivered 2012 NCCC Convention in Topeka, Kansas The 2012 Convention is sponsored by the West Region which means members of the West Region will be in charge of each event. Volunteers from the Region s Clubs will be asked to volunteer to help with these events. If many people volunteer for one or two shifts, everything will be covered without any one person having to do more than anyone else. All Convention Chairpersons positions have been filled but now we are working to get each person to setup their schedule and to determine how many people they will need to make their event successful. I will have a list of Convention events and a schedule with number of volunteers needed. I will be presenting this list to you for your help. This Convention will be a success because of our Members and other West Region Members. NCCC Local, Regional and National October 8 th 9 th Drag Races and Autocross in Kearney, NE Saturday will have Matching Times Drags, Record Drags and Bracket Drags. Sunday will have low speed autocrosses. The West Region Competition season is officially done. Thank you to all of the CRCC members for your participation. Many of you raced and helped run the events also, which is a burden, but you did your part to make them successful. Thanks again. March 24 th West Region Banquet and 2012 Convention Chairpersons Meeting The West Region Banquet is set for Omaha at a local downtown steak house. Having the Banquet in a central place makes travel for most of the Chairpersons to be as equal as possible. The Chairpersons meeting is scheduled for 10:00 AM. A lunch will be available and will be over in plenty of time for everyone to get beautiful for the Banquet. CRCC Members... Dues are Due Annual dues collection is under way. 5 Behind the Wheel with the Competition Director With this newsletter article the CRCC local racing season officially comes to an end. The trailer is stored and will sit until next spring when we get it out for the spring practice autocross in April. This year we had two practice autocrosses and the attendance from Club members was very good. Many new members drove Hawkeye Downs for the first time. From the smiles on the faces of the drivers the ride must have been a thrill. It is times like this that members can drive their cars in a controlled and safe environment and go as fast as they feel comfortable. Our weekend of events at the end of August brought together 40 to 45 drivers from seven states for an event that was our best ever from the standpoint of operating efficiently. The five events Sunday had no one hitting a cone and there was only one rerun which was caused when we stopped a car because someone spun and we didn t want any danger to the two cars. The timing system was flawless except for the one time Larry forgot to enter a car into the system; he was probably talking to someone and didn t notice. HA HA! 9 Editor s Note: The CRCC By-Laws and Officers Duties, as written in the Standing Rules, are being published in accordance with the Editor s duties stating that these will be published prior to the November meeting. Standing Rules of the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club Definition of Cedar Rapids Corvette Club Standing Rules - Standing rules are the written administrative and operating procedures of the organization, or general policy that are not included in the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club By-Laws. They cannot be in conflict with the By-Laws. Standing rules continue in force until they are changed or rescinded. Unlike By-Laws, standing rules can be changed or amended at any time, by a majority vote of members in attendance at a monthly business meeting. Club Webmaster Duties: Update the design of the club web page as needed. Add, remove, change sections, etc. Add current information to the website as it relates to meetings, upcoming events, and other club activities. Check all information, photos, and posted materials to ensure it is beneficial and appropriate in nature. Manage club files within the amount of space provided by the host server. Investigate and activate "club friendly" website links that could be useful to CRCC members. Clean off old and unnecessary files as needed and as necessary. Ensure information on the club website is in compliance with all CRCC agreements and contracts and represents CRCC in a positive way in the eastern Iowa community. Guidelines: Maintain the website in a useful, accessible and positive manner that is in the best interest of the club. It is expected that time critical information be posted in a timely manner. Consult with the executive board members as needed should there be an issue, question, or problem arise requiring assistance or advice. Uphold the integrity of the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club, its sponsors and advertisers. Selection Process: The club webmaster shall be selected from a list of club member candidates expressing interest in performance of the duties and within the guidelines established and possessing the skills necessary to successfully execute the position. Should the club not be successful in obtaining a qualified person from within the club to perform the webmaster function, the club has the option to hire an outside source to perform the function. The club webmaster term of service shall be for one calendar year and may serve consecutive terms. The Executive Board has the authority to remove any person from this appointed position at any time if it is felt by the board that the person is not upholding the intended duties of the position. The club webmaster shall be selected by a majority vote of the Executive Board. Messenger Duties: Send out to club members, notices of club news, events, reminders of calendar events, directives and announcements of activities, and other items of importance directly related to and of interest to the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club. Maintain an address list of current CRCC members, former members within the past year and other clubs. Add to and delete addresses as deemed necessary. Send out items as requested by members that relate directly to the club and its members. announcements of Official CRCC events should receive priority support over other activities occurring at the same time. (In the spirit of goodwill, it is hoped that members will support the main Club event to the extent that they are able) CRCC will establish a club exclusive address to be used by the person holding this address. Guidelines: Messages sent shall be useful, helpful, and informative in nature. Messages shall be in the best interest of the club and not conflict with any club interest. It is expected that time critical information be sent in a timely manner. Any and all information and photos shall be beneficial, acceptable and appropriate. Messages sent out shall be in compliance with all CRCC agreements and contracts and represent CRCC in a positive way in the eastern Iowa community. Expenses over $500 Unbudgeted expenditures of more than $500 need to be presented in writing at an official meeting, and held over to the following monthly meeting for a majority vote by secret ballot, by the membership present at that meeting. Club Dues CRCC membership fees shall consist of an initial $5.00 fee and annual dues of $ Membership paid after September 1 will carry over throughout the next calendar year. Members paying their dues after October 31 will be required to pay an additional fee of $5.00. A $10.00 charge will be made for the spouse of a full paying member or any dependent over age 18 of that member. Pervious members of CRCC who left in good standing will not be required to pay the $5.00 initiation fee or meet the requirements of By-law # 2. A National Council of Corvette Club membership will be required of at least one member of each household to maintain the NCCC 51% rule. CRCC Officer Duties PRESIDENT: Chair monthly club meetings. Oversee Club business as necessary to keep the Club flowing in an organized and progressive manner. Hold Board meetings as needed for Club business or to address issues. Organize "Officer Transition E-Board Meeting" in early January. Will be main contact with CRCC's primary Club sponsor. Work with Club Treasurer to assure that the required annual tax return (IRS form 990) is filed per the IRS deadline, to maintain the Club's 501(c)7 tax exempt status with the IRS. Present a yearly proposed budget, to be approved by the membership early in the calendar year. Utilize Club as needed, to send out important announcements, reminders, and important notices. VICE PRESIDENT: Responsible for outside public relations. Keep equipment inventory, with assistance of the Competition Director. Sell advertising for Newsletter, and keep Editor informed of changes to the list of advertisers. Meet and help make new members and visitors feel welcome. Liaison with other Clubs in area. Advertise important Club events on the radio, TV, and news ads. SECRETARY: Record meeting minutes. Send regular Club meeting minutes and E-board meeting minutes to the Editor, by Editor's article deadline, for publication in the next Newsletter. Do correspondence as needed, and maintain a correspondence file. Make up and keep current membership packets, which include Club By-Laws, Standing Rules, and membership list. Hand out membership packets to new members. Take care of cards and flowers, for Good and Wellness. Make and send out election ballots and official forms. TREASURER: Handle all finances. Present Treasurer's report and finance comments at membership meetings. Provide information needed for audits. Keep licenses, insurance and registration for trailer up-to-date. File required annual IRS tax return (form 990), by IRS deadline, to maintain Club 501(c)7 tax exempt status with the IRS. Work with Club President to develop the yearly proposed annual budget. SOCIAL DIRECTOR: Plan monthly dinners out, and organize other social events of interest. Plan the annual Christmas Party. Promote upcoming social events in the Newsletter and through Club . TRUSTEES: Audit the books semi-annually. Propose job description changes for all positions. Monitor and recommend changes in the By-laws and Standing Rules throughout the year. Count Attendance at all regular meetings, and advise president of count for important votes (50% approval rule). Recommend secret ballot vote, as necessary at regular meetings, for issues that they see as important concerns. Advise and enforce By-Laws and Standing Rules. After the November meeting, count the election ballot returns, and announce these results at the Christmas Party. Other projects as recommended by the President. Beyond the Glass 10

11 GOVERNOR: Keep Club updated on NCCC. Attend NCCC Governor's meetings. Help event Chairperson with NCCC paperwork. Offer advice and interpret NCCC rules. Obtain sanction number for events. Turn in the results of NCCC sanctioned events to the Regional Competition Director by the required NCCC deadline. Take care of NCCC dues and applications. Maintain Club membership file. Furnish E-Board with an updated membership file as needed, including address, address and phone numbers. EDITOR: Determine guidelines for Newsletter. Publish meeting minutes, as provided by the Secretary. Keep advertisements up to date, per list of advertisers from the VP. Publish and send out Newsletter at least one week prior to regular meetings. Publish By-Laws and Officer's Duties in the Newsletter prior to the November meeting. Provide Newsletter in electronic form to Webmaster, for inclusion on the Club Website. Be aware of number of Newsletter pages vs. postage rates. HISTORIAN: Take pictures and plan a Club group picture. Keep photo albums and other memorabilia including newsletters. Update Club History each December, and have it available at the Christmas Party. Provide photos and History update for inclusion on the Club Website. Submit the History update to the Editor for publication in the Newsletter and to the Secretary for inclusion in the new member packets. Maintain Digital Photo Frame at Club Sponsor show room, and provide periodic photo updates for the display. COMPETITION DIRECTOR: Oversee competition chairpersons & competition events. Promote upcoming Competition events in the Newsletter and by Club . Work with Governor on sanction numbers for events, and to advise sanctioned event results to NCCC. Oversee event results. Work with VP, to maintain up to date equipment inventory list. HOMECOMING DIRECTOR: Will be main contact for schools and will be responsible for getting cars and drivers organized to be at homecoming parades at proper times. Utilize Club as needed, to advise updates, and driver changes. Responsible for CRCC door signs. Work with Club Treasurer, to be sure that school donation checks are received in a timely manner from the schools. Officer Notes: As much as possible, the officers should strive to provide information to the Club Webmaster, to help keep the Website content fresh. The Officers should also strive to provide Newsletter information to the Editor, to help keep the Club membership advised of events, activities, new members and Club concerns. Definition of a Quorum Quorum for a by-law change is defined as a 2/3 majority of members at the November business meeting. 12 CEDAR RAPIDS CORVETTE CLUB BY-LAWS 1. Membership in the Club is limited to owners or prospective owners of Chevrolet Corvettes, or Corvette enthusiasts, who are eighteen years of age or older. If an applicant has not attained legal majority age according to the laws of his state of residence, he must submit a statement or parental consent, signed by a legal guardian and properly notarized. 2. To join CRCC a prospective member must fulfill the requirement of By-law #1 and attend two Club functions. They then must be voted in by a majority of members present at an official meeting. 3. The Club may determine the amount of an initiation fee, if any, and set other club dues. All dues are payable to CRCC by its members. 4. The Club officers shall consist of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Governor, Director of Social Activities, Editor, Historian, three Trustees, Homecoming Chairman and a Competition Director. These officers shall be voted into office by a majority of the members by official secret ballot. Officers shall be elected on a yearly basis, except Trustees, who will be elected for a three-year term, with nominations being made at the November meeting. The results will be released at the annual Christmas banquet. Office shall run from January 1st to December 31st. 5. All officers may be re-elected for consecutive terms except the President and Trustees. The President may serve two consecutive one year terms. A Trustee must be off the Board for one year, before being elected to another three year term. 6. Official meeting will be held monthly. 7. All functions of the Club will be decided at official meetings only. The Executive Board, consisting of all elected officials, will meet at the start of each year, and anytime thereafter as needed, to discuss special problems and make recommendations to the regular membership. 8. Any member in frequent violation of City and State laws, traffic or other, will be suspended from the Club for an indefinite period. This suspension shall be lifted only by a majority vote of members present at an official meeting. 9. The By-laws may be revised and will be ratified annually by 2/3 majority of members at the November business meeting. Quorum for other votes is defined as a majority of those in attendance at the monthly business meeting. Each new member, upon joining CRCC, will receive a copy of the By-Laws. By-Laws will be posted on the Club website for members to access, and copies will be kept by the Secretary and will be available upon request. 10. The Executive Board shall appoint a person to complete a term of office if an officer resigns a position. If the President resigns, the Vice-President will take over and a new Vice-President will be appointed by the Executive Board. 11. (deleted, 11/19/2009, out of date) 12.
