1 FROM THE PRESIDENT You can certainly tell by the cool, crisp air in the morning that fall is rapidly approaching. I hope that you all are taking advantage of the beautiful weather to enjoy your Corvettes to the fullest! I know that I really did as I joined a large group of C.R.C.C. members on the annual Corvette pilgrimage to Mid America Motor Works in Effingham, Illinois last week. If you haven't been there before, put it on your "things to do" list. It's quite a sight to see thousands of Corvettes in every year, style, and color parked in one area! We also were able see several C-7's on display, as well as attend seminars on all the engineering improvements. What an impressive piece of machinery! If only I hadn't wasted all my money on wild women and strong drink.oh well. The cool air is also a reminder that it is time for Homecoming Parades. By the time that you get this message, our club will have participated in several, with many more yet to come. Brian is currently having difficulty getting enough members to participate, so please dust your "Vette" off and get involved! Remember, it's your club. The homecoming parades have been a C.R.C.C. project long before I ever joined the club. The various parades are our single best public relations promotion for our club; they help with our operating budget, result in a nice check for Camp Courageous and are FUN. So what's the problem? Our OCTOBER meeting will feature our four premier charities as we present them with checks from the proceeds of our "Cruisin the Ave" Charity Car Show. One of our select charities, Clothe-a-Child, will host needy area children at Lindale Mall on October 19 th to shop for desperately needed winter clothes. They need some additional people to escort and advise the excited shoppers. All the merchandise will come from Sears and Payless Shoes, so you don't have to walk all over the mall. This rewarding experience will take place a couple of hours before the Mall officially opens for business, so please consider helping. The regular NOVEMBER MEETING will feature nomination for officers. PLEASE give SERIOUS thought to getting involved in the leadership of your club! THE FUTURE OF YOUR CLUB RELIES HEAVILY ON THE OFFICERS THAT YOU ELECT. Ballots will be mailed to every member with a return envelope and the voting results will be announced at our annual Christmas Banquet. Wouldn't it be great if we got 100% voting participation? The 50 th Anniversary Committee has stayed true to their word by doing a great job providing entertaining events every month of the year in celebration of our 50th year. October, November, and December are no exceptions so check the website or you're going to miss out on some good upcoming fun! Over the past couple of years we have been spending more time on the road and therefore missing many CRCC meetings, cruises and other events. And once again I am unable to attend our monthly meeting, so am submitting this report in writing. In two months we will be nominating a new slate of officers for As you know Lyle is the out-going Trustee this year. I am a firm believer in term-limits and allowing new blood to offer new ideas and leadership. I also believe that when a person takes on the duties of a club officer, he or she should take the obligation seriously. I have tried to be diligent in serving CRCC as Historian since I no longer feel that I am able to devote the time and effort needed to carry out the duties of CRCC Historian as I would like and feel that I should. Therefore I will be giving up the office of CRCC October 2013 Beyond the Glass 2 Historian at the end of this year (2013). I am asking all the members to seriously consider running for office. The office of Historian is a fun one, and lets you make it as big or small as you want the job to be. Please consider running for Historian in November. Let the President or other officer or trustee know you are interested. To new members being an officer is a great way to be involved in YOUR club, make great friends and enjoy your Corvette. I will continue to take pictures at CRCC events that I attend, and will support the new Historian as much as possible. Vice President Mike Benge was in charge of the 50/50 drawing. Treasurer Larry Bushaw presented the club s financial report. Larry reported some schools have already paid for their homecoming events. 6 Tweaking of the Charity Car Show! A meeting was held just before the regular club meeting on September 19 th. There was a good turnout of members (about 25) who were interested in evaluating and doing a bit of reorganizing of the car show. Most every aspect of the show was covered, although some very briefly and there were many good ideas presented. Although it was probably are most successful show, considering the money raised and the record number of entrants, along with what co-chair Wayne Martin mentioned, the most compliments we ve ever received after the show, there is always room for improvement. We are definitely going to be careful not to fix somethin that ain t broken, however. The main change that is going to take place with the car show is that members are not going to be asked to sign up for day-of-the-show jobs, where you appear in your worker shirt and sort of go through the motions that you probably went through the previous year. These day-ofthe-show jobs are going to start in about a month! There will be a sign-up sheet sent out to all members, listing the various aspects of the show, (e.g. Silent Auction Table, Parking and Routing, etc.) along with a suggested number of spots available to take care of that particular responsibility. One could call them sub-committees, within the show organization. And each will have a designated chairman. These committees will meet far in advance of the show, and all improvements and details of their d-o-s function will be worked out so there will be no hitches on the show date. The overall co-chairs will oversee the committees, aiding and advising, working out problems and such, along with securing the show date, venue, sponsors, etc. It may be possible that a member could be a part of two, or more, of these committees, as long as the d-o-s jobs do not conflict. But with CRCC being the second-largest club in the West Region, we should have plenty of volunteers to fill all of these positions without doubling up. It will be each and every member s duty to lend a hand to the various committees. This change is necessary to lighten the burden on the show s co-chairs. It has become a major undertaking and there are too many responsibilities for 2, or 3, people to deal with. It is a club show, and you are part of the club. It is your show, too. Many hands make light work for all. With the committees being organized and meeting this far in advance, there will be plenty of time for tweaking and improving all aspects in order to put on an even more successful show. Entrants and viewers will enjoy it more, our charities will continue to benefit from our efforts, and we members can take even more pride in a job well done for our club. A sign-up list will soon follow. I challenge and October 2013 Beyond the Glass 6 encourage you to step up and take an active role in the success of our club s biggest event! Thank you for your past, present and future involvement. Dick Butschi, car show co-chair SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19 TH From Jim Arnold President of Clothe-A-Child Inc. Our annual Clothe-A-Child shopping event will be held on Saturday, October 19 th (a Hawkeye away day). If you volunteered with us last year, hopefully the magnet we gave you is on your refrigerator and is a reminder. Please add this date to your calendar. We will start registering volunteer shoppers beginning about 6:40 AM and will have them meet in the mall area between Sears and Payless Shoes about 7:00 AM for final instructions. Note: Clothe-A-Child is one of CRCC's charities that we have been supporting through our June Charity Car Show. Shoppers are needed to help the children shop for clothes and shoes. It is a very rewarding experience. If you would like to sign up to be a shopper helper, you can send an to Rick Bowersox at (rick@clothe-a-child.com) and he will add you to the list so you get a reminder .

14 Definition - "Spoiled Ballot"- for Election of Officers (New Standing Rule adopted at 8/19/2010 general meeting) A ballot will be considered "spoiled" if the ballot instructions are not followed correctly. The current Trustees will count the ballots at the counting session. They will determine if a ballot is "spoiled", using the "Ballot Instructions" listed below as their guide. Any spoiled ballot will not be counted; it will be clearly marked as "spoiled". It will be held with the other ballots until such time the ballots are destroyed. Ballot Instructions (unless otherwise specified at the nomination meeting, these instructions are to be shown on the ballot): 1. Vote for only one member per office. You are not required to vote for every office, and if you choose not to, your ballot is not considered spoiled. 2. Any write-in for an office must be a CRCC member. Appropriately, that member should know of and accept your write-in vote. 3. No stray marks are acceptable on the ballot. 4. You must use the "official" ballot provided, it may not be a photocopy of the official ballot. 5. Return the ballot in the envelope provided. The envelope must be postmarked by the date specified on the ballot. 6. Failure to follow these instructions will cause the ballot to be a "spoiled ballot", and the ballot will not be counted.
