The Model A Ford Club of America - Bakersfield Chapter The Model A Ford Club of America, Bakersfield Chapter, the first chapter, is dedicated to the preservation of the Model A Ford and its era. All are welcome. Information in the newsletter may be borrowed from other publications. Credit will be given when known. Meetings are held the first Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Rasmussen Center, 115 E. Roberts Lane. Rick Davis is our committee chair for the nominating committee. Let Rick know if you would be interested in helping out the Chapter as we grow into our 61 st Year! Our fall calendar event; Dust Bowl Days (October 20) and the Veteran s Day Parade (November 12) are coming up. These events are a neat way to share the Model A hobby with those interested in old cars. We celebrated International Model A Day at Plane Crazy Saturday at the Mojave Air and Space Port on Saturday, September 15. The Chapter was invited to participate and boy we sure did with 12 Model A s showing up. Candy and I really appreciate you guys coming out and joining us for this event. They asked that we give the program for this month s Fly- In, so Dan, Rick and I captivated the standing room only crowd (is was a small room) talking about the Model A Ford and club activities. We had a nice short PowerPoint slide presentation narrated by Dan. Rick talked about the Pietenpol Model A powered airplane. I answered questions and craftly avoided saying anything too important or controversial. We also had a great turn out for the All Ford Show in Old Town Orcutt, located in Santa Maria. Our very own Curt Nicks won an award for his class and the club brought home the Best Club Participation Award. The weather was great, the swap meet bargains were plentiful and the raffle awesome. If this is not on your calendar for 2019, think about making time for this show next year. Thanks to Dennis and Linda for bringing the pop-up shade and for all the folks making the trip to the coast. For those who stayed Saturday night we were treated to an event at the Santa Maria Inn. Club member Rick Rodgers got us hooked up for a charity event to show off our cars at a roaring 20 s themed party. Our cars were the center of attention with many pictures taken with the guest all decked out in their 20 s costumes. It was a pleasure participating and making this event special for their guests. And Rick bought ice cream! Of course, there is always ice cream at a Model A event! The early risers in the club had a nice Drive An A to breakfast on Saturday, September 22. We had 9 Model A s and a great gathering at the Broken Yolk restaurant. The food was awesome and the service even better. We got some nice attention from the owner and she appreciated the club eating at her place. Some of us are going to try a new swap meet down in Paradise Valley. If you want to wander down south with us on Saturday, September 29, meet us at the Taco Bell at Weedpatch and Hwy 58 at 6:30 sharp.
