Meeting Minutes October 27, 2016 Meeting Submitted by John Smith, Acting Secretary President s Report The meeting was called to order at 8:00PM by Club President Tom Dunn and the pledge of allegiance was recited. There was a total of six members and two guests present. Those in attendance included: Tom Dunn, John Smith, Tom Poole, Bob Neugebauer, Rick Grimes, and Joe Jackson. Tom said with only 6 members present and low attendance at previous meetings, it may be time to consider holding meetings at a different location. If you have any input on this, please let us know. Annual banquet reservations must be in NLT November 21 st to give Bravo Restaurant our menu and head count information. We have top flight entertainment this year with ventriloquist Cindy Speck who has been performing since she was only 12 years old. Vice President s Report John Smith made a motion to approve the September 22, 2016 minutes as printed in the October 2016 Fly Paper. The motion was approved by the membership present. Membership Report Vice President of Membership, Tom Poole reported that we currently have 4 members who have signed up for Tom said members have renewed their AMA memberships, but the AMA has been slow issuing 2017 membership cards. We need a copy of your 2017 AMA membership card or verification from the AMA before you will receive your 2017 GPARCS membership card with the gate combination. Dues for 2017 are now being accepted. Members and New Applicants can now apply on-line at the GPARCS website; Payment can be made by Pay Pal or snail mailing a check with your membership

2 application to; Rick Grimes, 25 Johnson Street, Crafton, PA Or better yet, come to a meeting and renew your membership. It s an excuse to get out of the house and meet with your friends who share the same passion. Treasurer s Report Rick Grimes presented a treasurer s report and stated that we are still in the black. If there are no unforeseen expenses, we should break even at year s end. Rick suggested that we cut back on the food ordered for the picnic as we had too much left over that had to be discarded. Some leftovers were used for John Smith s Old Timer s event held on the Sunday after the picnic. Safety Report No safety issues were discussed at the meeting. Everyone is encouraged to operate their aircraft following the AMA Safety Code. AMA Report No report was presented at the meeting. Field Report Joe Jackson said he would take care of general maintenance of the tractors and lawn mowers for this year. We should be looking for someone to service the mowers in the coming new year. The repaired walls to the shelter have been given a coat of paint supplied by Racoon Creek Park office. We want to thank the Racoon Creek personnel for making the much-needed repairs and supplying paint for the project. The final grass cutting for 2016 was completed on Saturday October 29 th. Wheels, batteries, and blades were removed from the tractors. Thank you to the grass cutting crew; Joe Catalano, Tom Dunn, Joe Jackson, and Bob Lingg for volunteering their time and services to keep our field in good shape. FAA UAS Registration - (Not Just for Drones) Any Unmanned Aircraft System, that includes drones, fixed wing aircraft, and helicopters, weighing.55 pounds (8.8 ounces) and under 55 pounds that is controlled by a radio transmitter MUST be registered with the FAA before it is flown. Go to website to register. Registration is not required for every individual aircraft you own. Registration Fee is $5.00 and is good for three (3) years. There are potential penalties for non-compliance, so please be aware. If you have questions, go to the AMA website and click on AMA Government Advocacy News & Updates for the latest information. Please Note that Hillman State Park requires pilots to have both AMA Membership and FAA UAS Registration to fly at K. Leroy Irvis Model Airport. Old Business No Old Business was presented or discussed at the October meeting. New Business Nominations for the 2016 Hillman Award were opened. Bob Lingg was nominated. Eight Ball award nominations were opened and there were no nominations presented. Officer nominations for 2017 were opened. All current officers: Tom Dunn-President, John Smith-Vice President, and Rick Grimes, Treasurer were re-nominated. Officer nominations will again be reopened and a final vote taken at the November 17, 2016 meeting. Joe Jackson volunteered to serve as a board member for Thank you, Joe! Harry Garman was recognized for his many years of service to the Greater Pittsburgh ARCS. Harry was very instrumental in keeping our field and maintenance equipment in good repair. He will certainly be missed. Rest in Peace Harry! A motion was made by Tom Poole to change the Jerry Fink award for the year s outstanding youth member to the Harry Garman award. The motion was approved.

3 Show & Tell: Tom Poole presented his ¼ Scale Monocoupe 90A built from an Ikon Northwest kit which is no longer in business. He has been working on it on and off for 5 or 6 years (slow worker). It s covered with Solar Tex with Super Coverite trim with clear coat over everything. Tom said it spans 97 and weighs approximately 16 pounds. It is powered by a Zenoah G cu inch gasoline engine. Tom made a custom dummy radial engine from Williams Brothers engine parts. Tom is looking forward (with knees knocking) to its first flight. Nice job, Tom!

Cost is $24 per person including tax and service charge. Menu includes; Caesar or Bravo Chopped Salad, Chicken Caprese, Crispy Potatoes, Sausage Tortelloni or Pasta Woozie. A cash bar is available for those who want or need a drink! This year s guest entertainer is Ventriloquist Cindy Speck. Cindy is a very talented and funny ventriloquist who has been performing since she was only 12 years old. Cindy performs nearly 150 times each year. Ralph Pennetti Long time Greater Pittsburgh ARCS member, Ralph Pennetti, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, He was 89.
