Because Jerry Engle stepped down from the President position 1 year before his term was complete, our Vice President Mike Melnyk assumed that position and Vince Luppino Was elected as Vice President. Also, since we were unable to find a member that wanted to run for Secretary, Jessica Corder volunteered to take the position. While, according to our by-laws, a member must be in the club one year before running for a position, Jessica will be with the club one year in March 2014, so members present at meeting agreed to allow Jessica to hold the position as Acting Secretary until March, when she will be appointed Secretary for a term ending Our new Board Members were voted in too. As Past President, Jerry Engle will have a Board position for one term. Dennis Crago, John Huff and Tom Young were voted onto the Board replacing several board members who wished to step down. So our new Board of Directors is composed of; Dennis Crago, Jerry Engle, Sandi Fries, Tom Hollenbach, John Huff, William Ingraham, Barbara Melnyk, Alan Miller and Tom Young. Also, at the meeting, Jerry Engle, Dennis Crago and Myself (Tom Hollenbach) volunteered for the Public Relations Coordinators position. We had posted the position in previous Newsletters and since the position had several duties important to the club function and growth, more than one person was needed so these functions can be completed without stressing one person, after all, this is suppose to be fun! I want to thank Vince, Jessica, Jerry, Dennis, William, Sandi, John, Alan, Barbara and Tom for their support of the club. Also, I want to thank all the members who came out on one of the coldest nights to support and participate in the General Elections and General Meeting. It was a great group and a strong turnout! 2 Page 2 Lehigh Valley Thunderbird Club President s Message Greetings Lehigh Valley Thunderbird Members, Jim Wulf and I have been in Scottsdale, Arizona from January 15th-21st. I am writing this the night before we have to go to Sky Harbor Airport to head back home to the deep freeze and visions of shoveling snow. Our friend Scott came out with us also. He rented a Cessna plane and we flew over Sedona. The view was incredible! Another one of our friends was also out here with us. He bought a nice red 1957 Baby Bird. Jim and I looked at a lot of nice cars at Barrett Jackson, R&M Auction and Silver Auction. Lots of nice cars. We didn t buy any cars, just had a great time. It was brutal enjoying the nice warm, sunny weather and cool nights. That s it for now, our weather eventually will get warm, I promise! It has been a while since some of you have come out and participated in a club function, so since 2014 has started out with such mild weather and bright sunny days, try to come out and say Hello! Our membership renewals are still coming in. We ask all those intending to renew to send your dues in by mid-february. Our dues and membership number is the basis for our budget and allows the club to commit to do the various shows and support charities. Last year we were able to donate some sizeable funds to the food bank, Jen s House and the Hackerman-Patz House. These organizations have a very positive impact in the Lehigh Valley. I If you know someone with a Thunderbird, get them to join the club...the more the merrier! Please ATTEND PIZZA NIGHT, as we will unveil our Club Activities for Some surprises too! First, once all the membership renewals are in, we will publish a club directory for each member that will include your name, address and phone number along with your Thunderbird year, model and color. Our second goal is to get a new website up and running, providing each member with their own address.but you still need to access a computer to utilize this benefit.so come on, laptops are cheap, as tablets become The Norm. And our third goal is to improve communication of club activities ( yes, yes and timeliness of the newsletter too). We are always open to your suggestions and ideas, so don t be bashful, let us know! 4 Volume 3 Issue 2 Page 4 AUTO MANIA 2014 What a great turn-out we had for Auto mania It just goes to show how strong our club is. Nick from the North Jersey Club drove down, Tom Young came up from Maryland and Jessica drove out from Hershey (actually to claim her prize of unspeakable value and breakfast). One of our new members, Troy Miller joined in the fun too. Even my pop came along to check out the action, at Auto Mania. We all met at the West Side Diner and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, then drove around the block to Auto Mania at the Allentown Fairgrounds. As you may know, Carlisle Events became involved with this event last year and they made some changes to it this year, like a Tented car corral and more outside space for venders. The usual vendors were there and quite a few new ones. The car corral had about 14 cars, and the place was packed. Jess, Tom, Walt, Sandi, Steve, Bruce, Jerry and Nick. Hiding: Adam Overall, everyone had a good time and we even put out some fliers for our Nazareth Day Car Show too, so maybe we will get an extra 50 to 100 cars this year! 7 Volume 3 Issue 2 Page 7 Barbara E. Brader Barbara E. Brader, 66 of Danielsville, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014, in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. She was the wife of Richard W. Brader with whom she celebrated 49 years of marriage in October. Born in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of Richard Melcher and the late Doris (Gross) Melcher. Survivors: Husband; Father; daughters: Wendy L. Young and Alan Miller of Catasauqua, and Theresa A. Simon of Richmond, VA; sister Kathy Hammel; and grandchildren, Jessica, Leigh Ann and Aaron.
