Known better to us as The best keep secret on the Niagara River. It was so nice to have the New York s Day Reception so well attended. I would like to thank my wife Ellen, and her committee for a wonderful party including all the desserts. We also need to thank our new Rear Commodore, Italo Baldassarre, for the new drinks ideas and specialty beer on tap. Italo is off to a great start, with many creative ideas ahead this year. I have met with the Women s Organization, and Past Commodore s to outline this year s projects, parties and wish lists. We also attended the Calendar meeting with the other yacht clubs, at the Buffalo Yacht From the Women s Organization: Please join us Thursday, February 13. A group of us will be enjoying dinner at, SAVOR at the Culinary Institute in Niagara Falls instead of holding our monthly meeting. We will be making reservations for any of you interested in joining us. I have provided a link for the restaurant if you would like to see if this interests you. If we have over a group of 20 ladies the chef will be preparing a pre-fixed dinner rate to be determined. This is for all the ladies at Sandy Beach member or not. We really hope you can join us. Best Wishes in 2014, Debbie Walsh, President From the Fleet Captain If you saw the docks under ice last week, it was quite a surprise. Needless to say, there will be some work needed in the Spring. Let s hope that comes soon, and we can transition to outside work in the coming few months. I am pleased to announce our new Dock Master for the year is Dave Krotz. Dave was a long-time member who recently returned to active membership at SBYC. He has been a great asset over the years to assist with dock repair and electrical wiring, and I am pleased to have him in this position. We have four members on the Dock Committee at present, and could use a few more. If interested, please see me. Other assignments for the year are Erika Ward Matuszewski, Auxiliary Fleet Captain Sail, and Jose Garcia, Auxiliary Fleet Captain Powerboat. John Boyce will again head the Protest Committee. Our Race Committee is in need of members to assist with the Sunday sail races. If willing to help, please call or me. Power boat members are welcome too and needed to assist with placement of buoys, etc. A reminder that slip requests and down payments are due to me by February 1 st for those who have assigned slips, jet ski docks, and other PWC storage. Members who do not have an assigned slip and desire one, please send me the form also, so I can initiate a waiting list. As per our constitution, I will rank each application not by date received, but by membership month/year. At present we do not have any waiting list carried over from In addition, two members with current jet ski docks have them for sale. Please see me for details if interested. Thanks, Dan Brown, Fleet Captain Everyone who was so supportive of Elaine Hepp s brother as he battled this disease, we thank you. John Bobowicz passed peacefully Tuesday, 12/18 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. John was an inspiration to us all as he pressed on to try and beat this deadly disease, but it just wasn't to be. Thank you all for all your love, prayers and support during these past two years. 3 From the 75 th Anniversary Committee; Sandy Beachers please watch you mail around March 1 st for your invitation to the 75 th Anniversary Celebration being held Memorial Day Weekend. Your special invitation is being sent with a zip drive loaded with surprises. Please make your reservation by April 7 th as we are accommodating our members first. We are expecting a sell out so please don t delay. The 75 th Anniversary Burgee sales have been a terrific success. Thank You to those who purchased one. A special Thank You to Rene Taggart for the fabulous design. There are just a few left for sale. I d like to thank the following for their generous contributions for our 75th celebration; Thank You to the Women s Organization for purchasing a large 75 th burgee that will fly proudly from the top of our flag pole. Just a friendly reminder to please include your Membership Renewal Update Form in your mailing as well. If you have misplaced your form simply goto SBYC online, then select ABOUT US, then select DOCUMENTS. There you will find and electronic version of that form (in

The wake was held Sunday, , from Amigone Funeral Home Sheridan & Parker. The mass will be held 9:30 at St. Johns in Kenmore in the chapel. Please keep Gary, Maryann, Tom and Kristina, and all those who grieve in your thoughts and prayers; that the Lord heal their sorrow and they look forward to seeing Mrs. Aronica when they too are called home.
