Welcome to December, and the most wonderful time of the year! We are looking forward to our Christmas/holiday party on Wednesday, December 5th! As we bring 2018 to a close, we will reflect on a memorable year, celebrate our accomplishments, and lay the foundation for great things to come. However, before we celebrate, we will have a couple of important topics to mention. The first topic concerns our by-laws, which you will see in this newsletter and which will be voted on in January. Additionally, you will also see in this newsletter our complete roster for the new board to be voted on during January s meeting. Thanks to everyone who stepped up to volunteer! A special thank you to Suzanne Larson for agreeing to serve as President-Elect, in the wake of Verne Courtright s resignation due to ongoing health concerns. We will have a special vote during the December meeting to elect Suzanne as President-Elect. We thank Suzanne and Verne for their contributions to our Alumni Association. I have a few names left for Adopt-A-Cop, and will bring them to the meeting. If you don t have a name yet and want to participate, see me at the meeting or send me a note. The gift-giving rules are simple: no expensive gifts ($10 or less) and keep it simple. Gift examples include (but are not limited to) greeting cards (words of encouragement, birthday, anniversary, etc.), snacks (gum or candy), and small trinkets (gift cards, books, toys, etc.). Again, keep it simple and fun! These gifts are our way to show appreciation for what our police personnel do for us each and every day. I hope you all have a safe and joyous Christmas and New Year! As always, thank you for your continued support and commitment to WCPAAA! We have had a very eventful year, and have grown stronger because of it. I remain confident that we will carry huge momentum into 2019! Stay warm and safe. Linda

Every WCPAAA member has great ideas and suggestions to make our Alumni Association the best that it can be; and we are grateful to those members who have answered The Call! We are pleased to present the current slate of candidates for the 2019 WCPAAA Board: I have lived in Westerville for more than 40 years. I served in the U.S. Navy during the 1960s. 3 Volume 18, Issue 12 PROPOSED CHANGES TO WCPAAA BY-LAWS Page 3 The following proposed changes to the WCPAAA By-Laws, have been approved by the Executive Board for discussion by the membership at the December 2018 meeting, and voting by the membership at the January 2019 meeting. 1. Addition of NEW Section : In order to maintain a revitalization of the Executive board, members who have been on the Executive Board for five consecutive years must take a break of at least two (2) break years before standing for re-election. 2. Addition of NEW Section Absentee ballots must be sent out with the ballot in the month before the election. Absentee ballots must be sent by , or post to those members who do not have . Absentee votes may be accepted by any Executive Board Member at the annual meeting. If not brought to the annual meeting in person, absentee votes must be returned by the day prior to the election. Absentee votes returned by post must be signed by the member. Absentee votes returned by must come from a recognized address. Absentee votes must be verified and counted by the Election Committee. 3. Section 6.13: Addition of item to the Treasurer s duties: ensuring that all appropriate premiums have been paid for bonds and policies for the fiscal year. 4. Section 6.15: Change bullet point one of the Publications Officer s duties from: publishing and mailing this Association s newsletter to publishing and mailing this Association s newsletter to Association members, the WPD Chief, and current members of WPD Community Services Personnel. 5. Section 7.1: Change from: Standing Committees shall consist of Membership, Election, Program, and By- Laws Committees. to Standing Committees shall consist of Membership, Election, Program, Web-Site, and By-Laws Committees.
