The new College of Allied Health building was dedicated in September The building has three floors with 114,000 square feet. There are many different classrooms and lecture halls with the capability for distance education and A/V. There is wireless internet access throughout the building. There are also class laboratories for PT/OT, Imaging, and Food Lab. Allied Health workers comprise 1

2 more than 2/3 of all health care providers in the United States. There are two hundred different professions in the Allied Health field. The mission of the College is to provide education and training for health care providers. The College wants to improve health and health care for our community and society. The College participates in research, high-tech services, innovation in care, and care of the un-insured and under deserved. There are many different departments in the College of Allied Health and many different fields within these departments, e.g., Allied Health Sciences, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences, Nutritional Sciences, and Rehabilitation Sciences. Total enrollment for Fall 2009 was approximately 660. The College also offers clinical services such as rehab resources, language preschool, and a cleft palate clinic. The College is involved with research and scholarly activity. There is a bright future for the College of Allied Health with the significant need for health care providers. The College is leading in the use of technology in distance learning, has growing research programs, and provides high-level and unique services that integrate research into patient care. Call to Order: Brian Wilburn, Chair, welcomed everyone to the Staff Senate meeting and called the meeting to order at 10:30 a.m. Paije Fauser, Past Chair, indicated a quorum was present and announced the Senators and Alternates who would be voting members for the meeting. I. Approval of the December 2009 Minutes - A motion was made by Lisa Suriano to accept the December 2009 minutes and was seconded by Kim Gaines. Motion passed. II. Treasurer s Report presented by Susanne Bernard, Treasurer Revenue Expenses Balance November 1, , Fall Craft Fair Fall Fundraiser (Hoodies/Ornaments) 7, Total Revenue 7, Christmas Tree Lighting (Supplies) Fall Fundraiser (Credit Card Fees) Sales Tax (October 2009) Total Expenses November 30, , December 1, , Fall Craft Fair Fall Fundraiser (Hoodies/Ornaments) 1, Total Revenue 1, Christmas Tree Lighting (Refreshments)

Staff Senate Spotlight presented by Paije Fauser, Past Chair Bobbie Brewer, Staff Assistant, OU Breast Institute, is January s Staff Senate Spotlight. Bobbie has been with the University since October Staff Senate has provided Bobbie with information about what s happening around campus. Staff Senate has also allowed her to contribute toward building a better campus community by disseminating various communications regarding outreach, donations, and fundraising to her department, floor, and building. Bobbie would like to see Senator s and visitors take back the information captured at the monthly meetings and communicate that information to each HSC department/clinic manager so that they can keep their staff updated on campus happenings through their monthly department/clinic staff meetings. Joie White, Dean s Assistant, College of Nursing, is February s Staff Senate Spotlight. Joie has been at the Health Sciences Center for almost eleven years. Staff Senate has allowed Joie to meet more people and become more aware of the happenings on campus. Joie would like the see more activities which involve the entire HSC staff, as this may be an opportunity to get more staff involved with the Senate. IV. Committee Reports: A. Committee on Committees Report presented by Matt Cloud, Chair-Elect Senate Resignations are Rhonda Miller, Treasurer and Stephanie Odparlik, Group III Senator. There was a Senate recommendation to elect Susanne Bernard as Treasurer. All were in favor of the recommendation. There was also a resignation from the Community Outreach Committee. There are still vacancies on the Committee on Committees, Communications, Community Outreach, Employee Recognition, Special Projects, and Staff Week Committees. B. Communication Committee presented by Paula Meder, Chair There were 792 responses to the communication survey that was sent out on the Staff Senate website and newsletter. Most were pleased with the website and the newsletter. A large percentage only visits the website less than once per month or not at all. There needs to be other forms of communication to get information out to the campus. The committee also needs to start guiding employees to the website for information on staff events. C. Community Outreach Committee presented by Paije Fauser, Co-Chair The committee sold popcorn and bottled water at the Fall Craft Fair. At total of $64 was raised from these items and donated to the Ronald McDonald House. There was also a 3

4 toy and supply drive for the Ronald McDonald House. Approximately fifteen bags of various items and $150 in gift cards and money were collected. The Tree Lighting reception was one of the best attended in years. The students from KIPP Academy made all the ornaments and helped decorate the tree the Friday before the reception. Dr. Ferretti was the guest speaker and flipped the switch to light the tree. The students from KIPP Academy were in attendance and sang Christmas Carols for everyone. Santa also joined us as a special guest and led the songs. Santa did a wonderful job bringing the Christmas Spirit to everyone. Matt Cloud was able to get cookies and punch that were donated by Crest. The committee will meet at the end of this month to talk about spring projects. D. Employee of the Month - presented by Patsy Kouhdari, Chair The Employee of the Month for December was Arto Baghdayan. His reception was held on December 16 at 2:30 p.m. at the College of Pharmacy. The Employee of the Month for January 2010 was Travis Halley, Sr. IT Analyst. His reception was held on January 26, 2010, at 3:30 p.m. in the snack bar area of the Service Center Building. The Employee of the Month for February 2010 is Kevin Rinaldi, Business Analyst, College of Pharmacy. His reception will be held on February 18, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. at the College of Pharmacy, 3 rd floor conference room. Everyone is invited to attend. E. Employee Recognition Committee presented by Sandy Warner, Co-Chair Invitations were mailed to awardees on January 21 for the luncheon. Thanks to all who came to help put the invitations together. On March 18, the committee will meet to put together the name tags and ribbons for the attendees and award recipients. Volunteers are needed for this meeting. Lunch will be provided at this meeting as thanks for volunteering. Volunteers are also needed for the luncheon on April 28. Photos are still needed for the slideshow. If you have any photos of campus events within your department or college, please them to Cheryl Williams. F. Special Projects Committee presented by Brian Wilburn Cupid Express ordering finished on February 1. The deadline was extended because of the campus closing due to bad weather. Over $2,000 in merchandise was sold. Orders will arrive and be distributed to each building representative next week. Vendor applications have been made available for the Spring Craft Fair that will be held Friday, April 30. A possible Spring/Summer fundraiser was discussed at the last meeting. The fundraiser may be possible if the committee could offer the campus something unique that would be wanted by employees. G. Staff Week Committee presented by Kelli Hayward, Co-Chair The committee has received a sample of the Staff Week shirt. All the committee members are excited about this year s design. The gifts for Staff Week will be a cup with interlocking OU and a recycled green bag with interlocking OU. Colors on these two items are still being discussed. New setup for the tables at the cook-out is being revised. There was a lot of congestion at last year s cook-out, so this year the committee is trying to alleviate some of the last year s confusion. The committee has increased the number of food items and gifts that they are going to be given out this year. 4

5 V. Unfinished Business None VI. New Business: Parking & Transportation Report presented by Brian Wilburn A. The construction of the Cancer Institute parking garage is underway. Issues arose when a six foot underground storm drain on the east side was found when the garage was designed. The drain has been rerouted and the piers have been drilled and poured in that area. An old oil transmission line was also found that has to be dealt with. Family Med drive should be open soon while the east side of the parking garage is being constructed. B. The Stonewall Parking Garage 1. Parking received estimates to bring the garage up to ADA requirements for the doors, ramps, and handrails. The estimated cost is $74,000. Parking has asked if the University will pay with ADA funds they have. 2. Parking has received the estimate for the structural repairs of the garage that are planned to begin this summer. The first estimate came in at $4.43 million. Zahl- Ford, has reviewed the estimates and removed some items they believe are not necessary. Their second estimate came in at $3.62 million. This does not include the A&E fees of over $500,000. Parking had a meeting with them last Thursday and they now have the estimate under $3 million. Parking budget for the entire project is $3.5 million, including a 10% contingency. The project is now estimated to take 8-10 months to complete. C. Doug worked with Site Support and Landscaping before the break to prepare for the blizzard on December 24. Lots that needed priority snow removal, such as Village Apartments, HHODC, Library, Family Med, were scheduled to be done first. Parking has received some compliments and thanks for the hard work of Site Support and Landscaping over the break. Parking continues to meet with Site Support and Landscaping to prepare for the ice/snow storms. Parking fees pay for the snow and ice removal in the parking lots and structures. D. Due to cutbacks Parking will be reevaluating their bus routes and making changes effective March 1 st. The campus shuttle service is subsidized by parking fees. The initial thoughts on the campus shuttle is to combine the west and central route and making it a 20 minute service, removing one of the two central routes and possibly not doing route deviations. If anyone has thoughts and/or comments, please let Parking know ASAP. E. Reserved Area Parking 1. The new reserved area parking permits were ordered again and should be here within 45 days. The Reserved Area Parking will be located on the 1 st floor of the Williams Pavilion as well as a section of the 1 st floor of the Stonewall Garage. F. 30-Day Final Acceptance Test 1. Parking has started the 30 day final acceptance test of the parking system on Monday, January 4 th. They should finally accept the system this month. Parking is continuing to work with IT and the contractor on two issues with the software and expect it to be completed within 60 days. G. OHC Inclement Weather Parking 1. Parking has sent out an campus-wide on December 8 th with information on inclement parking and it also included additional good to know information with regard to parking. 5

6 H. Theta Dempsey, the Director or Parking and Transportation Services for the University, is retiring at the end of February. Doug is being promoted to Director and will assume the position on March 1 st. VII. Announcements: Don Clothier announced that the Employee Benefits Committee is looking to cut the benefits budget. The committee is seriously looking to amend the Combined Contribution Plan. The committee is looking at a number of different scenarios on retirement benefits. Adjournment - A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Sandy Warner and seconded by Patsy Kouhdari. Motion passed. Next meeting will be Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bird Library Auditorium.
