Chief Albertson, retired from the OKC PD, is here today to tell us that the OUHSC is a hidden gem! The PD at OUHSC is 13 th largest in the State, all officers are sworn officers, with CLEET certified security officers. Security guards maroon shirts; OKC Police grey shirt, County all black. Chief Albertson loves working at the OUHSC, and loves taking care of people. The OUHSC PD is here to serve the employees, and students. 3 FINAL Gregory Zornes, Project Manager, Sooner Track Project Gregory talked about the Sooner Track Project, a centralized tracking system where all agreements, grant proposals, and contracts, will be processed, and stored. The purpose of the project is to elimate paper, with the goal of having all systems in the same place. The timeline for this project is December 7, Be on the lookout for training announcements. Call to Order: George Schmerer, Staff Senate Chair, no quorum, unable to conduct business. **Message from the Chair** If you are a senator and cannot fulfill your duties, please let me (George, Chair) or Carol Clure, know so you can be replaced by someone that is able to attend the meetings. Without a quorum, the Staff Senate is unable to conduct any business. Attendance to these meetings is very important. I. Staff Senate Spotlight presented by Kimberley Johnson, Staff Senate Chair Elect September 2015 Spotlight: George Schmerer, Police Lieutenant, The University of Oklahoma OUHSC Campus Police Department George has been with HSC for 15 years. He is been married to Mendy (who also works on campus). They have been married for 11 years and they have two beautiful girls; Abagail who is 5, and Evalyn who is 3. George recently went on a trip with his family to visit the Tulsa Zoo and enjoys spending time with the youth groups at their local church. He feels that Staff Senate has allowed him to meet and work with some of the greatest staff members. George has served on the Staff Grievance Committee, Employee Recognition Committee, Committee on Committees and Executive Committee. George is our Staff Senate Chair. He would like to see the HSC Staff Senate always have a mission of service to the University and staff. IV. September 3, 2015 Philosophy of Life: The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things. Community Outreach Committee presented by Sara Pierce The supply drive for the Cavett Kids Foundation ended August 31, and was very successful. Many items were donated as well as monetary donations. We will be serving dinner to children and their families at the Toby Keith Kids Korral on Monday, October 5. Our committee does not receive a budget for these kinds of things (we also serve dinner at the Ronald McDonald house). We are always accepting new members for our committee! If there are some who cannot commit to serving an entire term on the committee, they are more than welcome to volunteer with us during any event. George Schmerer This is an example of the 80/20 rule: 20% of the people doing 80% of the work. Could this possibly be funded by the Staff Senate? Something for the executive committee to discuss. c. Employee of the Month Committee presented by Jennie McCartney The August employee of the Month was Barbara Grayson, Staff Assistant in the College of Public Health. Barbara s reception was held Monday, August 24, at 2:30 p.m. in the College of Public Health, Room 204. The September 2015 Employee of the Month is Carolyn Laurie, Service Desk Manager, Information Technology. Carolyn s reception will be Friday, September 25, at 2:00 p.m. in the Rogers Building, Room 402. The EOM Committee encourages nomination. If you know a deserving staff member who meets the criteria listed on the Staff Senate page, please nominate them or encourage their supervisor/department to do so. d. Employee Recognition Committee presented by Michele Doughty The committee met on August 28, President Boren has been invited to the luncheon. September 3, 2015

5 FINAL Melissa Moore resigned, Pat Vinson will take her place. The committee will arrange food tasting at Faculty House at the next meeting. e. Special Projects Committee presented by Carol Clure 426 t-shirts were sold, and hope to deliver them next week. The goal for the Christmas Fundraiser is to have the items available to view at the October 23rd, Fall Craft Fair. f. Staff Week Committee presented by Heidi Petitt Committee is working on plans and considering ideas for Staff Week. If you have an idea, or would like to be on the committee, please contact Heidi Petitt, Nicole Sorick, or Carol Clure. g. Shared Leave Committee presented by Carol Clure The goal for this committee is to collect 2015 hours in Currently there is over 500 hours in the pool and that is after helping an employee. Please discuss with your coworkers and faculty members about donating. V. Unfinished Business Nomination of Senators will be tabled VI. VII. New Business Presented by George Schmerer, Staff Senate Chair No new business Announcements Georger Schmerer 25 th Annual Wacky Games is coming up. The Staff Senate will be sponsoring a new game this year. Kathy Walker 860 Wacky Game t-shirts have been sold! 120 teams have signed up! There will be 4 Thunder Girls at the event this year. The girls will be available for photos and autographs from 10:30-11:30. One of the girls, Kimberly Jackson, is the daughter of Sarah McCraw, an OUHSC employee. The CEO game is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. This year there will be a band from 11-12:00, the Derek Harris Duo which was voted best band last year from the OUP Fall Music Festival. There will be food trucks: Crepe Brewers, Hawks Hot Dogs, Juan More Taco (staff employee), and Faculty House. There will also be a bake sale in the library lobby. 8 Staff Senate Spotlight October 2015 Jon Brightbill Associate Dean for Executive Affairs College of Medicine, Office of the Dean Jon has been with the University 7 years this coming January. He has been married to Andrea for 9 years and has 2 children; Shelby, 29 and Kelsey, 26. He also has two grandchildren; Noah who is 7 and Aren who is 4. He enjoys home improvement projects, going to the movies and golf. Last fall they enjoyed a cruise to the Mexican Riviera. Jon would like to see more active involvement in the Staff Senate. More folks that are not just filling a spot on the senate, but actively participating to try and improve what we have at the Health Sciences Center. He feels that Staff Senate has been an educational experience for learning more about things that are going on around campus. Jon currently serves as Provost Designee for Staff Senate. His position within the College of Medicine allows him to support and assist with many initiatives, and interact with many committees across campus. Philosophy of Life: Don t sweat the small stuff! And, truly most things end of being small stuff! Provost's Designee: The responsibility of each Provost s Designee Member is to serve in an advisory capacity to HSC Staff Senate and the HSC Staff Senate Executive Committee to aid in the fulfillment of the purposes of the HSC Staff Senate as delineated in Article III of the Constitution. It shall be the duty of each Ex-Officio Member and Provost s Designee Member to attend all regular and special meetings. Ex-Officio Members may send a designated alternate. The Ex-Officio Members and Provost s Designee Members shall serve on HSC Staff Senate committees when duly appointed. Provost s Designee Members shall have full rights of membership, except voting privileges, at all HSC Staff Senate meetings.
