United Way is proud to partner with OUHSC and looks forward to this year s campaign! Kenny Kelly Salvation Army Kenny is excited to partner with United Way and OUHSC and shared just a few of the programs the Salvation Army has to offer: Night Watch Program, Homeless Outreach Program, Worship Services, First Light, just to name a few. The Salvation Army goes beyond the bell ringing! Danny Cavett Cavett Kids Camp Cavett is celebrating 38 years of teaching kids how to cope with their illness/disease with the 3 C s: Character, Coping, and Connection. Danny introduced us to Ashley Simpson who is over the Diversionary Play Program. Ashley s focus is to work with reoccurring patients and get them to open up about their feelings, illness, emotions, etc., through art. The Staff Senate Cavett Kids Supply Drive helps support this program with the items that are collected. Some of the items

2 needed are: panel canvases, ribbon, glitter, buttons, lace, water colors, as well as the usual construction paper, crayons, markers, etc. Ashley s motto is: you learn better when you have Fun! Call to Order: George Schmerer, Staff Senate Chair, 10:50 a.m. meeting called to order. Quorum present. I. Approval of June 2015 Minutes A motion was made by Nancy Geiger seconded by Kelli Dyer to approve the minutes from the June 2015 meeting. Motion passed. II. Treasurer s Report presented by Joey McCall June 1, 2015 Revenue Expenses Balance $10, Fidelity Staff Week Funding 5, Misc. Inventory Spring Craft Fair Total Revenue $5, Credit Card Fees Craft Fair Tables, Delivery, & Parking Unclaimed Property Total Expenses $ June 30, 2015 $14, III. Staff Senate Spotlight presented by George Schmerer, Staff Senate Chair August - Carlos Rodriguez, Associate Director, HSC Student Affairs Carlos Rodriguez has been at the Health Sciences Center for 6 years this month and coming up on a total of 10 years in the Division of Student Affairs. Prior to 2005 he was with the OU College of Education for 3 years. Carlos is married to Amanda and will celebrate 11 years of marriage this September. They have 2 daughters, 6 year old Lucy, and 2 year old Evelyn. Carlos enjoys spending time with his family, graphic design/art, and woodworking. A highlight of the summer was a family beach vacation to Gulf Shores, Alabama. He feels that Staff Senate provides an opportunity to positively impact the OUHSC campus, in addition to new relationships. Staff Senate is an opportunity to work alongside others who want to make a difference in the quality of work life for colleagues through sustainable initiatives and programs. Carlos would like to see the Staff Senate continue its great work as a mechanism for informing and encouraging colleagues to be an active part of the HSC campus. He currently serves as a Provost Designee for the HSC Staff Senate. He has also assisted with Staff Senate activities such as emcee of the Wacky Games and design of marketing efforts for the Power of the Hour Initiative.

3 Philosophy of Life: We have to collectively invest in each moment by being there, wherever there may be, because that moment is an opportunity to embrace new ideas and differences. IV. Employee of the Month Committee presented by Carol Clure The June 2015 Employee of the Month was Donna Emrick, Senior Administrative Assistant in the College of Medicine Dean s Office. Donna s reception was held Friday, June 26, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. in the Biomedical Sciences Building, Room 324. A big congratulations to Donna! The July 2015 Employee of the Month was Cheryl Walk, Senior Administrative Assistant in the College of Allied Health. Cheryl s reception was held Thursday, July 23 rd, 2015, at 3:30 p.m., in the College of Allied Health Atrium. Way to go to one of our own Staff Senate committee members!

5 The August Employee of the Month is Barbara Grayson, Staff Assistant in the College of Public Health. Barbara s reception will be held Monday, August 24 th, 2015, at 2:30 p.m., in the College of Public Health, Room 204. Congratulations Barbara! The EOM committee encourages nominations. If you know a deserving staff member who meets the criteria listed on the Staff Senate page, please nominate them or encourage their supervisor/department to do so. d. Employee Recognition Committee presented by Michele Doughty Haven t met yet, nothing to report at this time. e. Special Projects Committee presented by Carol Clure Oklahoma Strong t-shirt sales is currently ongoing with a lot of response. Over 200 t-shirts have been sold to date. Sale ends August 21. Please buy a t-shirt and encourage your coworkers to buy one also, all proceeds fund Staff Week! f. Staff Week Committee presented by Heidi Petitt Haven t met yet. If you have an idea, or would like to volunteer to serve on the committee, please Heidi, Nicole, or Carol. g. Shared Leave Committee presented by Sandy Warner Balance of shared leave hours is 500, after helping an employee. The goal is to collect 12,000 hours so take this message to your departments, and get your faculty involved. We will continue to pass out flyers at events but your help is needed to get the word out. Any policy changes will have to go through the executive committee. Talks are in process to change some of the wording regarding policy. Your payroll coordinator is the person to contact to donate your hours. V. Unfinished Business Presented by George Schmerer No unfinished business VI. VII. New Business Presented by George Schmerer The Senator orientation presentation will be sent out electronically to save time. Announcements This year will be the 25 th anniversary of the Wacky Games. A new game will be introduced this year by Staff Senate. Be sure to look for it on the lawn by the clock tower. Awesome food vendors have signed up to be at the event. Please be sure to sign up as a volunteer, sign-up sheets are available (on the front table of the auditorium). VIII. Adjournment A motion was made by Heidi Petitt, seconded by Crystal Keene to adjourn the meeting. All were in favor, the meeting adjourned at 11:09 a.m.
