5 b. Community Outreach Committee presented by Amanda Watkins, Co-Chair The Christmas Tree Lighting will take place after the Staff Senate Meeting today. There will be cinnamon rolls and apple cider. The Christmas Decoration Drive for the victims of the May tornadoes ended at the beginning of December. The committee collected many items and distributed them. The ongoing drives, magazines for the clinics and coupons for military families, are a continued success. Coupons can be up to six months old and still be used by military families. The Parking Office will clip and sort coupons for mailing. The latest ongoing collection drive they have added is the pull tabs from your soda cans for the Ronald McDonald House. c. Employee of the Month Committee presented by Barbara Grayson, Admin Coordinator The November Employee of the Month was Connie Welch. Connie is the Access Control Specialist for the Campus Police Department. Her reception was held November 18th at 2:00 p.m. at the Campus Police Department. It was a fantastic event. The December Employee of the Month is Leisa Burton. Leisa is the Director of Graduate Medical Education. Her reception will be held December 17th at 3:30 p.m. in the BSEB Lobby. The committee welcomes new nominations for Employee of the Month. d. Employee Recognition Committee presented by Kathy Hazelbaker, Co-Chair Kimberley Johnson will be the Volunteer Coordinator. Please contact Kimberley to volunteer for the Luncheon. This will give them an idea of the volunteers they have and how many more are needed. Please send photos for the slideshow to Elizabeth Pace. e. Special Projects Committee presented by Joey McCall, Co-Chair No new business. f. Staff Week Committee presented Liz Monroe, Co-Chair Additional funding from an outside source is currently being reviewed. This will help determine giveaway items and t-shirts. V. Unfinished Business No unfinished business. VI. New Business A proposal to cancel the January meeting was presented to the Staff Senate. Paije Fauser motioned it and Kathy Hazelbaker seconded. All were in favor. Motion passed. A Benefits Committee update was presented by Don Clothier. Flexible Spending accounts have had updates, but the new regulations will not go into effect for OU Campuses until It will need to be presented on the Regents Agenda for the next year s business. There has been a task force assembled by HR to review the new changes in the Affordable Health Care Act. University of Oklahoma will be celebrating its 125 th year anniversary in OUHSC Staff Senate will need to send one representative to participate in the meetings to decide how best to celebrate this landmark. Some meetings will be in person and some via . Please submit an to Elizabeth Pace if you are interested in serving on this committee. OUHSC Student Union is offering 50% off on room rental for Departmental Christmas Parties. 3 December 4, 2013
6 Don Clothier will be singing with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic this weekend at the Civic Center for their Christmas Show. VII. Adjournment A motion was made by Paije Fauser and seconded by Lori Bradley to adjourn the meeting. All were in favor. Dewayne Andrews, M.D., Senior Vice President and Provost. Dr. Andrews attended the meeting and gave an update on the campus. The missions of the Health Sciences Center are health professions education, discovery (means research and development), and service. There are a total of 3,535 students plus over 775 physicians in residency and fellowship training across campus. We currently have 4,002 staff members. The Health Sciences has a total budget of $872 million. The primary funding source of this budget is from the professional practice plan. Only 10.8% of the budget comes from State Appropriations. In Fiscal Year 2013, the campus received $478 million in gifts and endowments.
8 The acquisition of Research Park is complete. It is now called University Research Park. There is a committee in place that is reviewing the space. Dr. Andrews mentioned some of the key centers of excellence that are located on our campus and also several key partners in the success of our campus. In closing, Dr. Andrews stated that the current goals and challenges of the Health Sciences Center campus are to meet the health care workforce needs of our state and region, the retention and recruitment of faculty, recruitment of students, maintaining high quality dedicated staff members, and to continue to develop research programs. Call to Order: Susanne Bernard, Chair, called the meeting to order at 10:43 a.m. Sandy Warner, Past Chair, indicated a quorum was not present. I. Approval of December 2013 Minutes No quorum, December 2013 minutes will be held until the next meeting. II. Treasurer s Report presented by Don Clothier, Treasurer Don advised that the Staff Week Committee has presented a budget in the amount of $6, The Executive Committee recommends that the Staff Senate approve this request. Since there is no quorum, this recommendation will be sent out for vote by . December 1, 2013 Revenue Expenses Balance 17, Misc. Staff Senate Spotlight presented by Susanne Bernard, Chair George Schmerer was in the Staff Senate Spotlight for January. George is a Lieutenant at the OUHSC Police Department. He has been with HSC for 14 years. He feels that Staff Senate has given him the opportunity to serve the HSC community from a different aspect. He sees the Staff Senate as a vital part of the HSC community. He would like to see the Staff Senate stay the course! 2 February 6, 2014
9 Nick Bowen was in the Spotlight for February. Nick has been with HSC for 6 years and is a Simulation Technician for the Clinical Skills Education & Testing Center. He feels the Staff Senate gives us the opportunity and the ability to positively affect both day-to-day and long-term missions of the Health Sciences Center and the University. Nick would like to see continued awareness of the Staff Senate so that all staff across campus can feel equally represented and heard. IV. Committee Reports: a. Committee on Committees Report No quorum, the report will be held until the next meeting. b. Community Outreach Committee presented by Lori Bradley, Co-Chair No new business. c. Employee of the Month Committee presented by Jennie McCartney, Chair Leisa Burton was the December Employee of the Month. Leisa is the Director of Graduate Medical Education in the College of Medicine. She had a nice reception on December 17 th. The January Employee of the Month was Becky Mosley. Becky is a Senior Administrative Manager in the Graduate College. Becky had a wonderful reception on January 27 th. The Employee of the Month for February is Sheri Melton. Sheri is the Assistant to the Vice President for Research in the Office of Research Administration. Her reception will be held February 25 th at 3:30 in the Library Foyer. d. Employee Recognition Committee presented by Elizabeth Pace, Admin. Coordinator The committee has sent out invitations to awardees to RSVP for the luncheon. If you know someone in your area that is receiving an award, please remind them to respond to the . They will receive an from MTM Recognition Corp., in late February to order their award. Reminder that the luncheon will be held April 30, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. e. Special Projects Committee presented by Joey McCall, Co-Chair The Spring Craft Fair will be held Friday, April 4 th. f. Staff Week Committee The Staff Week budget request was presented with the Treasurer s Report. V. Unfinished Business No unfinished business. VI. VII. New Business There was no new business. Announcements Don Clothier announced that there is an Executive Steering Committee and a Strategic Planning Committee in place to determine changes with the Affordable Care Act. 3 February 6, 2014 Melissa Moore announced that ORA has gone live with the implementation of a new electronic routing system, Click Commerce. Hard copies or scanned copies of the former paper routing form will not be accepted after February 28, Training documents are available on ORA s homepage or you can contact Melissa-M-Moore@ouhsc.edu. Group or individual training sessions are available.
10 Sooner Safety Week will be held March 3-7, Monday will be Severe Weather Day, on Tuesday BIT will be discussed, a Safety Blitz Fair will be held in the Student Union on Wednesday, Think Sooner.Know Your Resources will be held on Thursday, and Friday will be Campus Police Day and Mental Health Day. All events will take place at noon at different locations across campus. s will be going out with more details.
