Community Outreach Committee presented by Mary Gonzalez The committee would like to thank everyone for their time and support at the Christmas Tree Lighting. It was a huge success. c. Employee of the Month Committee presented by Kimberley Johnson Employee of the Month for November was Steve Larson, Business Manager for the Department of Medicine Pediatrics/Endocrinology. His reception was held Tuesday November 29 th at 3pm at Children s Physicians 4 th floor, room The Employee of the Month for December is Mary Milano, HIPAA Compliance Auditor, Office of Compliance, Provost s Office. Her reception will be held December 15 th from 2-3pm in the Faculty Atrium of the Library. The EOM committee continues to encourage nominations. If you know a deserving staff member who meets the criteria, please nominate them or encourage their supervisor/department to do so. d. Employee Recognition Committee presented by George Schmerer This event is scheduled for April 28, 2017, from 10am-12pm. The ceremony is scheduled to kick-off at 10:30am. 4 DRAFT The committee has met twice so far. In the last meeting, they did an on-site visit to Embassy Suites for a walk-thru with Katie Tiegreen, Director of Catering. Not everyone was able to make the meeting on November 16th, but if someone still wants to take a look at the space, please feel free to get with Nancy or George. Seating arrangements which, at this moment is all dependent on actual numbers has been discussed. They will have those numbers after the New Year. They are planning on round-tables, but to decide whether there are 8 or 10 to a table. The event will be catered with heavy hors d'oeuvres. e. Special Projects Committee presented by Nicole Sorick The Holiday Fundraiser items should be in next week, so keep an eye out for an when they arrive. The committee will be working on the Cupid Express/Valentine s Day fundraiser next, so let them know if you have any ideas. f. Staff Week Committee presented by Marty Walton Staff week has been moved to the first week of May. The committee is currently working on pricing options for food and will have a schedule and budget completed in January. Volunteering opportunities will be sent out after that. g. Shared Leave Committee No report V. Unfinished Business No unfinished business VI. New Business Presented by Kimberley Johnson A vote to pass the updates to the Staff Senate policies and procedures was held. It passed unanimously. VII. Announcements Presented by Joseph Schmidt Adopt-a-patient: For the 2016 Holiday Season, HSC Student Affairs has teamed up with both the Children s Hospital and the OU Medical Center. Their goal is to help the patients feel more secure and at home in the hospital during the holidays. They are gathering new pajamas, blankets, toys and other simple comforts that can help. Many families come to the hospital in emergency situations, with little time to pack items. Additionally, over 70% of families served are considered low-income and could use a helping hand. Participate and find out more by visiting: or ing students@ouhsc.edu Submitted by: Kaitlyn Palone December 1, 2016 Sooner Standard: This program is going strong, with thousands of hours in conjunction with the Oklahoma Standard, and the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum campaign. This campaign is committed to promoting three acts service, honor, and kindness. Soon, the opportunity for staff to sign up and log hours will be available. MLK Day Celebration On Thursday, January 19 at 11:30 a.m. in the Children s Samis Education Center Auditorium, the African American Student Association will be hosting its

5 DRAFT annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration. This year is especially exciting because the guest speaker will be nationally-renowned speaker Jeff Johnson. Johnson is an awardwinning journalist, motivational speaker, social activist, and political commentator for MSNBC, BET, and CNN. He also co-authored New York Times Best Seller Act Like A Success, Think Like A Success. Please join us for this free and exciting event! VIII. 9 Staff Senate Spotlight Nicole Sorick Special Programs Coordinator (Evaluation Coordinator) Oklahoma Shared Clinical and Translational Resources/ Center for Clinical & Translational Resources My involvement with the Staff Senate has allowed me to meet so many wonderful people that I may not have had the opportunity of meeting otherwise. INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT NICOLE FAVORITE THINGS Nicole has worked at OUHSC for 11 years this month. She has served on the Staff Week and Special Projects committees. She co-chaired the Staff Week Committee last year and the year before and she is currently co-chair of the Special Projects Committee. Nicole has the opportunity to travel a few times of year for work, which she considers such a blessing! Most recently she has been to Las Vegas and Atlanta. She is a HUGE fan of The Walking Dead and was able to tour the filming set while in the Atlanta area. She also plans to take a family trip to Disney World later this year. My favorite team is, of course, the Sooners! Nicole loves spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading and party planning. As for her family, Nicole is surrounded by boys! Not only does she have two handsome yet ornery boys of her own, Blake who is almost 17 and Parker, 5, She also has an amazing man in her life, Shane and his sweet 9-year-old son, Lijah, as well.
