2 I. Guest Speakers Joan Hunter, Chair-Elect, Citizens Caring for Children Joan discussed what the Citizens Caring for Children (CCC) organization is and what they do for Oklahoma s foster children. When children are taken from homes where there is abuse, drug use, neglect, etc., and awaiting foster care, they are taken to the county shelter. The children are not allowed to take anything with them except the clothes they are wearing. CCC provides clothing and supplies to the children while they are at the shelter. Last year there were over 33,000 families reported for child abuse. That concerned over 63,000 children across the state with over 7,000 children in the foster care system on any given day. CCC provides 5 programs including a mentoring program, back to school supplies and clothing, shelter birthday parties, Santa Stop toys for Christmas, and the resource center. The CCC Resource Center is where all the clothing and other items for these children are kept. Ms. Hunter stated that the organization operates mainly from donations; only 11 percent of their budget comes from United Way. Chair s Report Presented by Brian Burrough Brian stated everything continues to move along with Tulsa s Staff Senate creation. Letters of endorsement and support have been sent to Tulsa s administration from both OKC and Norman campuses. Brian, Brenda, Pat, and Jennifer attended Norman s Staff Senate 35 th anniversary on November 9 th. President Boren spoke, refreshments were served, and door prizes were given. The Executive Committee purchased a new 12 foot Christmas tree from Sam s Club for about $ and it has been set up and is ready for decorating immediately following the Staff Senate meeting. The Holiday Party will be tomorrow, December 8 th. III. Approval of the October 2006 Meeting Minutes and November 2006 Informal Notes Since there was not a quorum in November, minutes for October were presented along with the informal notes from November for approval. Patsy Kouhdari made a motion and Paula Reed seconded the motion to approve the November notes. Eloy Candelaria made a motion and Mary Baisch seconded the motion to approve the October minutes. Tulsa Campus Report Presented by Bob Farringer The Tulsa Holiday reception will be held this afternoon, December 7. As previously mentioned, things are moving forward with the formation of the Tulsa Staff Senate. VI. George Nigh Campus Report Presented by Denaye Atwell The George Nigh Rehab Holiday Party was rescheduled for December 16 and will include lunch and an ornament exchange. VII. Committee Reports A. Term) Motion to approve the December COC report was made by Cheryl Williams and seconded by Paula Reed. Motion to approve the November COC report was made by Eloy Candelaria and seconded by Paula Reed. Both reports were approved. B. Employee of the Month Report Presented by Patsy Kouhdari The December Employee of the Month is Doris Holman, Administrative Secretary with the Robert M. Bird Library. Her reception will be on December 20, 2006 at the Library, Room 418D. C. Special Projects Committee Report Presented by Pat Word, Co-Chair The Special Projects Committee met on December 6 th. The estimated profit from the Fall Fundraiser is $1, There are shirts still available for sale. Contact Jennifer Nelson at if you are interested. The Holiday Party is tomorrow, December 8 th from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The tree will be decorated immediately following the Staff Senate meeting today. Everyone is invited to stay and help decorate the tree. Children from the Jimmy Everest Cancer Center will help with the decorating. Nichols Hills Elementary School children s choir will be singing at the Holiday Party. We invite everyone to come out and enjoy the festivities. 5 The Committee discussed the upcoming Cupid Express. Pre-orders will be taken in January. More information will be forthcoming. The next craft fair will be on June 1, More information will be given at a later date. The next committee meeting will be January 12, D. Staff Week Committee Report Presented by Paije Fauser, Co-Chair The Staff Week Committee met in November and decided to purchase Snickers, Hershey s and peanuts for the candy bar day. The committee has received a quote from Hiland for an ice-cream day; Braum s was not able to help us out and we have not received quotes from the other ice cream vendors. Co-Chair Brandi Green will do a follow up with the companies. There is not an update on the staff week t-shirts at this time, we are hoping to have a sample at the next meet and will be able to give an update next month. The committee reviewed all donations from local businesses and will continue to solicit for door prizes. The next meeting will be December 14, VIII. Unfinished Business None. IX. New Business A. Parking Update Presented by Doug Myers, Parking Office Doug said they are in the process of distributing the parking proximity hang tags. Employees are requested to go online at the web page and click on the link on-line registration for their new hang tag and then 24 hours after registration stop by the Parking office and pick up their new permit. Everyone will need their current OUHSC Parking Permit number to register online. Construction of the new College of Allied Health building was approved by the Regents to start in January College of Dentistry patients will be required to park in Level 1 of Children s Parking Garage. The employees currently parking in Lot L will be required to park I K Lot as well as the 2 nd through 5 th level of Children s Parking garage. Students will be required to park in Lot O when they return from Winter Break, except 25 students in leadership positions. 6 Brian stated that a January meeting will be necessary due to some changes to the Staff Senate Operating Procedures. The changes will be reviewed at the January meeting and voted on in the February meeting. He made a motion to hold the meeting on January 11. The motion was seconded by Patsy Kouhdari and was approved by the Senate. X. Announcements Don Clothier announced that Linda Womack and Jim Sharp were retiring from the University after 19 and 33 years of service, respectively. Linda s reception will be held on December 19 from 4-6pm at the Student Union, room 172. Jim s reception will be held on December 15 from 4-6pm at the Faculty House. Doris Hawthorne s retirement reception will be on December 12 at 2:00 pm in the College of Nursing lobby. XI. Adjournment Meeting was adjourned at 10:53 AM.
