RENEW YOUR BLUE MAX & AMA MEMBERSHIPS!! AMA CHARTER 1040 GOLD LEADERSHIP CLUB THE PRESIDENT S TRACK by Steve Haas It s been a slow start to the flying season with the weather on the weekends, so I have not seen too many brave souls out flying in the wind, just a few of us. But that will change and I hope you all can make it out and get some flying in. If you are having trouble or just don t feel comfortable, please don t hesitate to get someone to help you. If it makes you feel better, get someone to buddy box with you so you can get those first flight jitters calmed down. Not much happening so far this year at the field. We are working on getting some dirt to try and level the field and after that we will be rolling the field. We have had our first fun fly of the year and should be having the next one on the 17 th of May starting at 10:00am. We will be going over the 2015 AMA Safety Rules and also the See and Avoid AMA rules at the next meeting. This is something we have to do every year per the AMA. We will also be going over what a spotter should be doing as they are spotting for the pilot. ~ Steve President Steve Haas Vice President Howard Bifeld Editor Lynne Walters Board of Directors Bob Breckler Duane Lang Bradford Walters Gene Zerega Secretary Murry Randell Treasurer Bob Wisinski Webmaster Doug Bradbury COMMITTEES Banquet OPEN Field Marshal John Haderly Jim Kaufman Flying Proficiency Duane Lang Fun-Fly Jed Korthals Ground Crew Gene Zerega Matt Hauser Noise Shlomo Rimer Picnic Carl Will/Gene Derbick Bob Breckler Programs OPEN Safety Don Linder/Rich Blaha

3 May 2015 Volume 22 Issue 5 Page 3 New Business The open comment period for the FAA proposal is almost closed. Please go to the AMA website and use their links to post your comments. This is important to the future of RC Modeling. Don Linder explained how the club fuel buy works and asked everyone to get their checks into him tonight. Crash Reports Steve Haas - Stitch s Bosta 120E Wing spun into the ground on maiden flight. Rob Getz - 60cc Extra, pancaked during low maneuver and wind. Don Linder - TwinStar, looked down at transmitter to check a switch position and lost it. Program Rob Getz presented his giant scale 3W Bearcat kit project. It came as a fiberglass composite shell with no instructions. He has installed a Moki 300 engine into it. It has a 4-bladed variable pitch prop on it now but he will be getting a custom made one piece wood prop from Europe. The engine weighs 13.9 lbs. and the plane weighs 43 lbs. He is currently building the cockpit and will have lights, GPS, and telemetry. The whole shell had to be sanded before painting. He is hoping to maiden it in May at Fox Valley Aero.

8 May 2015 Volume 22 Issue 5 Page 8 Editor s Page By Lynne Walters THE ANSWER TO APRIL S NAME THAT PLANE The name of the plane is the Cessna Skymaster O-2. Larry Bochenko guessed it correctly and will get a free raffle ticket at the May meeting. One of the most dangerous duties in air warfare is that of the forward air controller (FAC). During the Viet Nam war this aircraft earned a reputation for ruggedness and dependability. Many returned to base with severe battle damage, but relatively few were lost. MAY S NAME THAT PLANE This was the only jet-powered fighter ever deployed by the Royal Canadian Navy between 1948 and The cockpit was fully pressurized and air-conditioned and the flaps, landing gear, folding wings, canopy, and air brakes were electrically operated rather than pneumatically operated. Send all responses to Bradford Walters at Bradford@thehoverzone.com.
