1 The Sunbeam President s Column Craig Kreuger Please note October s Club Meeting will be at the Ames Public Library, Dale H. Ross meeting room, 7-8p.m. This is the same room as we used last year. Plan on attending to discuss the raising of dues to $100 per year. Two meetings are required for discussions, this one and the November meeting. Vote on the increase will happen at the December meeting. So please come and discuss. Seems early for this, but it is October and Executive Council members will be elected during the December Meeting. Be thinking of someone that might be interested in being on the Executive Council. 2 The Scrap Bin Denny Goodrich This past July and August I spent a week in Finland and 2 weeks in Sweden visiting friends and relatives. this was my first trip abroad and I really enjoyed it. I lived with Jukka Juslin and his family while in Finland. Many of you know Jukka, who was a member of our club about 10 years ago when he was attending ISU. The portion of the visit I want to share today is of the parts that touched aviation. Just a couple of miles from Jukka s home northwest of Helsinki is an old airport, one of the oldest in the world. It was an active air base during WWI and some important events occurred there. One day Jukka demonstrated his competition electric glider.

3 And there was the Tuesday Model Club Work Night at (rich) member s shop! Think double deep three bay garage with only two doors. Nearly everything

4 We also went to the north to a city where the National Air Force Museum is located. Outdoors were old radar antennas, a German 88 gun, a large search light and a number of aircraft. Indoors were many exhibits, many of which were war torn objects, not the kind of thing we usually see in our stateside museums.
