1 Next Meeting: Thursday November 10, 7:30pm at Stoney Creek Airport ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM) Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is this Thursday, November 10 at the EAA Clubhouse at Stoney Creek Airpark. Doors open at 7pm. The meeting will begin with the Monthly EAA Video Magazine and then it s straight down to business! A big part of the AGM is the process of electing four Executives to the Board of Directors. Each of our Directors serves a two-year term. To maintain stability in the Board, only half of the Directors terms are due to expire in any one year, offset by a year from the other half. This year, the Directors that are finished their 2 year term are; Programs Director, Joe Brunski Secretary, Marcus Pfeiffer Hangar Director, Walter Wiegels Operations Director, William Yaworski Their terms will be finished by the end of this calendar year. It is customary that outgoing and newly voted in Directors will both attend a transitional meeting of the Executive. Our Directors that are continuing on to finish their second term are; Vice President, Jaime Alexandre Membership Director, Phil Pozer Treasurer, Mark Rataj President, Mike Wiebe It has been a very dynamic year at EAA Chapter 65. The Club is enjoying a vibrant renaissance. A new level of energy and activity has erupted in Our Directors will each deliver a brief report for the membership. It s an exciting time to be a member of EAA Chapter 65! Please join us this Thursday evening for camaraderie, refreshments, Club news and announcements. The Club depends on its members to carry out their duty in electing a new Board. We encourage you to attend the AGM, nominate and cast your vote for our new Directors!

2 PAGE 2 After a long hiatus, the monthly EAA Newsletter is back! I apologize for the omission. The Club s dynamic social media sites at Facebook and Twitter have taken my focus from the Newsletter, but many of the members miss the comfortable Newsletter format. I will endeavor to maintain it from now on, but your help is much appreciated! Please send in any photographs and written materials that you have to contribute. Marcus Pfeiffer Editor Member News Congratulations to our youngest member, Jesse Vanderwal, who having successfully completed her PPL on July 4 of this year, has now been signed off for Night Rating as well! She s now tackling her PIC Cross Country time, Cross Border Cross Country and CPL Ground School. Jesse is eager to begin Aerobatics training and is actively looking for an instructor....is there no limit to her energy? We would like to congratulate our Membership Director, Phil Pozer, on the successful completion of his PPL on October 11 at Brantford Airport! Trevor Yaworski has finished the wings and is now progressing through the fuselage construction of his Murphy Rebel. Nice workmanship, Trevor! Tim Kavanaugh spent the most part of the summer flying his Long-EZ at gross weight with sandbags in the back seat in anticipation of his safe transition to live passengers! One of those lucky passengers, Desiree, gives us the thumbs-up after a great flight on a beautiful fall afternoon.

3 PAGE 3 Our Programs Director, Joe Brunski was lucky to have met up with aerobatic legend, Sean D. Tucker at this year s EAA AirVenture at Oshkosh. Sean is EAA s Young Eagles Chairman, has been inducted into the Aviation Hall of Fame and has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement in Aviation by the Commemorative Air Force. Sean has flown over 1200 airshow performances in the last 40 years in front of more than 105 million fans and has won numerous aerobatic competitions. Celebrity Spotting On a beautiful July 10th, the club s Buddy Flight flew out to Reece s Corners Aerodrome just east of Sarnia for breakfast. The small unregistered grass strip with a restaurant and fuel service is a favourite destination for the club s Hundred Dollar Hamburger flights. As it turns out, Canadian Astronaut, Commander Chris Hadfield and his father, Roger, had the same idea! Roger Hadfield flies a Cessna 170.

4 PAGE 4 By far, our most ambitious and successful endeavor is the regular Wednesday Build night. Each Wednesday at 6pm until 9pm, our volunteers join Project Supervisors Jaime Alexandre, William Yaworski and Phil Pozer to get hands-on experience in the construction techniques involved in building a homebuilt aircraft. The emphasis of the project is the education of the club members, not the speed of the build. Members have experienced and learned valuable skills like metal fabrication, riveting, welding, painting, working with epoxy resins, handling tools, etc Wednesday Build Night Wednesday night builds regularly involve members of all ages from the twenty-somethings to the eighty-somethings! Our club project, The EA Eagle 100 is a twoplace side-by-side all-aluminum aircraft. It will be equipped with a Rotax 912 engine with state-of-the-art EFIS technology in the cockpit. The Eagle is 8 wider than a Cessna 152 and, with its higher power-to-weight ratio will outperform it as well!

5 PAGE 5 Our Programs Director, Joe Brunski deserves a special thanks for his years of service to EAA Chapter 65! This became abundantly clear when our Membership Director, Phil Pozer visited Oshkosh on September 22 to attend the Chapter Leadership camp. Head office has assembled a Chapter Leadership Manual which outlines how we should be entertaining our members at our monthly meetings in order to attract new and retain existing membership. Some suggestions as to how to do this were offered, and Phil recounted how he was having trouble not sleeping through this part of the program! Joe could have written the book on Chapter Programming and has been keeping us entertained with great guest speakers and events. Kudos to Joe for being years ahead and giving us the best entertainment that a $50 annual membership could ever buy! Our Facebook Page went past 500 active followers this year. Due to its daily updates, 80% response rate and 35 minute response time statistics, it has earned a 5 out of 5-star rating and a high Search Engine Optimization (SEO) score. Our page includes photographs, videos, stories, news and announcements. Visit our page at / and Like the page to follow it. EAA 65 also maintains a Twitter account and has currently got 128 followers. Twitter is a system that allows us to broadcast special interest photos and articles using specific search keywords to entice visitors to our Facebook page and website. Visit our page at Twitter.com/EAA65/ and follow us! Buddy Flights continue every VFR weekend. Volunteer members are encouraged to come out and grab an empty seat. Our breakfast flights usually depart at about 9:30am on weekends and are always a lot of fun! 6 PAGE 6 It s not too soon to renew your annual EAA Chapter 65 membership and avoid that last minute rush during the holiday season! Membership dues must be paid by December 31st of each year. Remember the penalty for missing the deadline... You would have to pay your $100 sign up fee again! We have added an etransfer payment option for membership renewals. If you use online banking, just send an etransfer to Payments.org and your renewal will be processed immediately. etransfer payments may also be used for Fuel Payments, Hangar Rents or Donations. Annual membership dues are still only $50. Please ensure that your EAA Worldwide Membership is also renewed and in good standing. A new Club Classified section will be offered starting next month.
