1 CONSTITUTION Of the Harding High School Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee PURPOSE This organization shall be known as the Harding High School Athletic hall of Fame Selection Committee. The purpose of the committee shall be to honor those Harding High School athletes, former coaches, and administrators and others who have contributed significantly to Harding High School athletics. COMMITTEE ORGANIZATION The committee shall consist of twenty four (24) members chosen and selected in the manner provided hereinafter. The number of committee members may be changed from time to time by a vote of 3/4 th of the members then in office. The Committee shall consist of the following: Superintendent of Marion City Schools (ex officio and non voting) Principal of Marion Harding High School or designee Athletic Director of Marion Harding High School Sports writer of the Marion Star Sports Director of WMRN Radio Nineteen (19) members shall serve as members at large and shall be elected by the committee as a whole. Members at large shall have the background and interest in athletics to qualify them for membership. All members at large will serve indefinite terms. Any member at large who fails to attend, without justifiable cause, at least 50% of the meetings in any school year may be removed as a member upon 3/4ths vote of the entire membership of the committee. At the May meeting each year, the Chairman shall provide the membership with a list of names of those members who have failed to have the required attendance.

2 The Harding High School Athletic Director shall serve as Chairman of the selection committee. A vice chairman and other officers shall be appointed by the committee as deemed appropriate. The Chairman shall appoint a secretary as he deems necessary. A quorum for the transaction of business at any meeting shall consist of twelve members of the selection committee, provided however, that quorum for the October and November nomination and election meetings shall be 2/3 of the members then in office. SELECTION CRITERIA The following shall be the criteria that must be met before any athlete, former coach or any other individual may be elected to the Harding high School Athletic Hall of Fame. A nominee, if an ATHLETE, must wait a minimum of ten (10) years from the time of his/her graduation from Marion Harding High School and must have earned a minimum of two (2) varsity letters in at least one sport. Special consideration will be given to athletes who have won individual state championships; achieved All American, All Ohio, All District, or All Conference statue; or performed extraordinary feats or record setting performances. A nominee, if a COACH, must have departed from the Marion City Schools for five (5) years and must have made an outstanding contribution to the athletic program during his/her tenure. A nominee, if a SCHOOL OFFICIAL, must have departed from the Marion City Schools for five (5) years and must have made an outstanding contribution to the athletic program during his/her tenure. A nominee, if a COMMUNITY MEMBER, will be considered if he/she has made an ongoing and significant contribution to the athletic program of the Marion City Schools. All nominees shall have demonstrated good citizenship in school and after leaving the Marion City Schools.

3 SELECTION PROCESS The following procedure shall be followed in the selection of qualified candidates for the Hall of Fame of Marion Harding High School: The pool of eligible candidates for election shall be those persons meeting the criteria outlined in Article III above. A five (5) member nominating committee (to be appointed by the Chairman or volunteer to perform this duty) will meet during the summer prior to the nominating meeting to research, screen and verify the qualifications of prospective nominees to be presented to the general membership for consideration for induction. The nomination meeting shall be held in October of each even numbered year for induction in the following odd numbered (i.e. October 2008 meeting would nominate for induction in the spring of 2009). The number of nominations shall be no greater than the number of committee members present at the October nomination meeting. No committee member shall nominate more than one individual. No nominations shall be accepted after the October meeting. No nominations shall be accepted unless proper supporting evidence is provided to the committee in writing. Nominators should endeavor to provide such supporting evidence with the support of the nominating committee. Nominations shall not be accepted from the general public but the committee may, from time to time, advertise to the general public that it is in the process of obtaining nominations and invited the public to submit suggested names to the committee for consideration. In November of each nominating year, as described in Article IV 2 above, the selection committee shall meet for the purpose of electing Hall of Fame inductees. Each member shall be required on the first printed ballot to cast votes for ten (10) individuals. The ten (10) persons receiving the most votes on the first ballot shall be eligible for the second ballot. In the event of a tie, more than ten (10) may be on the list for the second ballot. If a nominee receives ¾ vote on the first ballot, that person is automatically elected to the Hall of Fame.

4 From the remaining nominees not elected on the first ballot, the committee shall vote a second time. Any nominee receiving ¾ votes on the second ballot shall be elected to the Hall of Fame. Voting shall continue in the same fashion until there are five (5) members elected. On each ballot the number of votes shall be reduced by the number of nominees elected on the previous ballot. In the event of a tie, the number of inductees may exceed five (5). In the event that no one receives ¾ vote after several ballots, the Chairman may declare the vote deadlocked and only those previously receiving the ¾ vote shall be elected in year. No voting shall be permitted by proxy. No nomination of any individual may be made unless the committee member making the nomination is present in person at the October Nominating meeting. In order to be eligible to vote at the November meeting, a member must attend either the September or October meeting. SPECIAL RECOGNITION From time to time at its discretion, the Committee may elect to honor individuals, past Harding teams or businesses for their contribution to the Marion Harding sports program. The nature of the honor or award shall be determined by the Committee on a case by case basis.
