Box 277 Barnegat, NJ (609) Short Bursts Next meeting is 2 March, 7:30 P.M., at the Barnegat Rec Center. March 2016 Please, if you haven't already registered with the FAA, do it ASAP and send your FAA 'number' in to Micki. If you aren't registered, we can't let you fly at our fields! From the President s Desk March 2016 My how the winter seems to fly by when you're having a good time flying indoors every Friday night! If you haven't made it out to the Central Regional Middle school gym for some indoor flying, you only have 1 more week. Friday, February 26th is the last Friday night for the winter. Come on out even if it's to socialize with good friends. With the winter hopefully coming to an end and March kicking in with daylight savings adding an extra hour on the 12th, it's time to break out the glow and gas powered planes. I know that I have some minor tinkering to do on some of my airplanes to get them air worthy. With the warmer weather just around the corner, we'll be starting up and adding some more tables to Brick Wall as well as some benches. We will be scheduling a day later in March for volunteers to come out and help with the race track. We the increase in buggies over the winter, we have doubled the amount of racers and will need to make some modifications and upgrades to the track. Don't forget to get with Ron Pinksaw at the meeting or at the field for the raffle tickets. Please don't delay in getting you ticket(s) for when they're gone their gone! We only have 50 to raffle off. Where else could you possibly win a Great Planes Revolver Sport Aerobatic ARF for $10.00? I hope everyone has registered with the FAA by now. The deadline was February 19th and although there is no penalty for not signing up, you will not be able to fly at any of the Pine Barren's sanctioned fields until you do so. Just in case you forgot how, just follow this link: and it literally takes about 5 minutes. When you've completed this, be sure to provide your FAA number to Micki so that she can add it to our membership list. Richard Bombardier Club President Page 1

Rich B. will check into getting a Dropbox account to archive club photos and in having a no-cost information page on the AMA site. Tommy DiGuilio is looking for a site for a club auction. reported that the club membership as of January 2016 is 47. This is a 23% drop in membership from the previous year. The Coyle Field license is due for renewal by November The process must be completed not later than 180 days prior to that date. Micki has contacted John Wimbaugh, Coyle Field manager, to get the information to start this renewal process. There will indoor flying for 4 more weeks. The last date at the Middle School is February 26 th. Rich B. reminded everyone that registration with the FAA is required. Unregistered pilots will not be permitted to fly at any of our sites. Constitutional proposals were read for a second time. New Business: The raffle for the Great Planes Revolver ARF begins tonight. There are only 50 tickets (available to club members ONLY so you have to come to a meeting to get yours or, stay away, so I can win. Bill :-)). reported that she received $10.00 cash from John Henry to cover postage expenses for mailing him a copy of the newsletter. The money was given to the club treasurer. (Please see Bill's Corner for more on this). The club will renew the flying permit for Jake s Branch Field The membership approved getting a camp stove for Brickwall. Further discussion is needed regarding benches and a set up table. The track at Brickwall needs improvements that include grading and adding hay bales for barrier. PBM will have a static display at the McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst Air Show on May 13, 14 & 15. Our annual picnic will be scheduled for either Aug. 14 or 21. The RAM Show is February 26, 27 & 28. 3 Model(s) of the Month: None Motion to Adjourn: Accepted Minutes respectfully submitted by Secretary Pine Barrens RC Club Before I get to my usual blabbering, I want to make a point about the newsletter and your right to get a copy. Many of you don't make it to club meetings. That's a statement of fact, not an accusation. We've all had good reasons for missing meetings Micki and I included. Whether or not you can come to a meeting, you have the right to know what happens at them. So, I put abridged copies of the minutes in newsletters and try to get copies to everyone (I say 'abridged' as I won't put financial or other sensitive information in them Club finances are for club members only!). Micki and I try to save the club money, using the least expensive method of getting the newsletter out. Usually, that's via . If you don't have working , we'll send you a paper copy provided we know you want it that way. Obviously, if we don't know you don't have , we can't send you a paper copy. Bill's Corner This is where friends can help. If you know of a fellow member who doesn't have a working account, please, TELL US! We'll make sure copies get mailed to them (I won't guarantee they'll like my blabbering, though!). Another bit about the newsletter. Your club officers and I have been working on an annual newsletter, designed to tell our 'landlords' and the public in general, about what the PBM club does. Over the last few weeks, copies have been sent to folks like Forestry Service (owners of Coyle Field), Brick Wall Company, the Barnegat Rec. Center folks, and so on. When I saw Eric William's latest District II column, I had to chuckle; seems we at the PBM club are (as usual) ahead of the rest of the crowd! :-) This newsletter should reach your in-box by 26 Feb, the last Friday of our winter indoor schedule. So, please, give it a quick read and put your indoor models on charge! Modeling-wise, we're deep into Building Season (know to mundane non-modelers as Winter ). My Winter project is a redo of a plane I designed back in 1992/93, a Waco YKS cabin biplane. Back in 92/93, a geared Astro 40 motor on 20 Nicads was a one of the biggest power systems available only the 60 and 90 were bigger, and both were fairly rare. My Waco didn't have a lot of power, coming in at around 53 watts/lb., but with a wing loading at around 16 oz./sq. ft. (on over 6 sq. ft. of area!), it was a delight to fly. Slow, stable (never did get it to spin ) and rock-steady, I flew it until it was about ready to fall apart. Last summer, I decided to redo the Waco (pronounced like Whack-o, not Way-co ; like the Texas town). The revised Waco is designed around a brushless.46 outrunner and a 4 to 5 cell Lipo pack, so it should be distinctly lighter than my first Waco (as in around 2 pounds less!). How scale will my new Waco be...well, let's just say I won't be expecting Frank Tiano to invite me to Top Gun anytime soon. Oh well, I'm more of a sport/pattern flier, anyway I believe my models' wheels should have equal 'top' time with the pilots. I don't care if it's a model of a plane that was never flown past a 20 degree bank if I can loop, roll, or spin it, I will! Heck, I'll bet a lot of full-scale planes have been tossed around, despite their ratings to paraphrase George Carlin, if the cops (FAA) didn't see it, I didn't do it! See you at the field!
