1 NSRCA Meeting Minutes September 13, 2017 Meeting called to order by Anthony Romano at 8:00 PM CDT I. Attendance Vice President Anthony Romano; Secretary - Charlie Barrera; D2 AVP - Steven Franc; D4 - Scott McNickle; D5 - Mark Barnett; D6 - Monte Richard; D6 ADVP - Jeff Warsham; D7 Dan Lipton; D8 Patrick Harris; Canada Paul Brine II. Guests None III. Minutes BoD Meeting Minutes on August 9, 2017, approved by the BoD via on August 12, 2017 Anthony Romano, Vice President, presided over the meeting. Several BoD members were not present due to hurricane devastation in their respective districts. In the interest of time, the District Vice President reports were submitted via prior to the meeting. They are listed in these minutes. A. District Reports D1 Sal Piu - D1 held two 2-day contests and two 1-day contests since the last board meeting, ranging from 11 to 22 contestants at each event. Since the 2017 NATS are now over, FAI pilots elected to fly P19 for all of these recent events.

2 - Several D1 pilots expressed interested to have access to the recent survey results. - The remaining contest within D1 is the end-over year D1-D2 shootout. D2 Tim Pritchett - D2 held their last contest on Sep ; Culpeper Pattern Classic, in VA, JR Varela was the CD - Next contest: D1-D2 Shootout - Hollywood MD on 9/30-10/1, Chris Martin CD - Last contest: Green Sea SC, 10/21-22, Green Sea SC, Marvin Marozas CD - Consensus on the sequence proposals seems to be that the new sequences are fine; opinions from those that have flown them have grown more positive over time and time flying; very little feedback has been provided though; most seem interested in other aspects of the sport/hobby. D4 Scott McNickle - D4 staged their fifth and sixth contests of the season since the last BOD meeting, the Eleventh Annual Ohio Valley Pattern Classic at St Clairsvill, Ohio and the Tom Brett Memorial, hosted by the Radio Control Club of Detroit; both contests had seventeen pilots; about normal for the RCCD event and slightly down from the usual turnout at St Clairsville, mostly due to life events. - Many pilots are anxious to have an official version of the next sequences to practice in the next six or so weeks before the weather gets bad; several are concerned about their ability to fly the proposed sequences and are considering their options for next year. D5 Mark Barnett - The D5 contest season is wrapping up with a contest in Great Bend, Kansas, last weekend, a contest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, next weekend, and the final contest in St Louis, Missouri, at the end of September.

3 D6 Monte Richard - D6 has been fairly quite since the Nats. We have had one contest, and there are 3 more coming up. - There is a lot of interest in the results of the survey and the status of the new sequences. - We have had a couple of close incidents involving damage to a couple of planes and close calls but no personal injuries, sparking safety comments in the K- Factor articles of the District VP and the NSRCA Secretary; this has spurred some conversation on the part of myself and the Secretary to propose some safety comments be included as fillers in the K-Factor on a regular basis, and that we request the BOD to encourage the DVP s to include safety comments on various safety topics in their articles; this promotes discussion of safety topics in the K-Factor on a regular basis. - D7 Dan Lipton - Not much activity during July and August (other than the NATs, which I reported on in the k-factor) - Last weekend, we had the Arvin TOO contest; great contest, always a great field to fly at Did AMA, FAI, and Classic; turnout was on the low side, 14 participants; Some members were poking me about the low turnouts we ve had this season; not sure what that s about; I ve definitely noticed a drop off compared to last year; I will try to do some D7 to see if I can get feedback on that. D8 Patrick Harris - We have our last contest of the season the end of September; this is our largest event of the year, being our District Championship along with our third annual D7, D8 shootout. - Responses from pilots that have flown the proposed sequences are very positive; there has been some frustration that the new sequences have not been approved and released; in D8 we have a short flying season and guys want to get some flights on the new sequences before the monsoons and snow hit.

4 Canada Paul Brine - The outdoor contest season has wrapped up for the year; in this part of the country weather has been an issue for contest weekends; two of the three two day contests had the second day cancelled because of bad weather; while conditions at the third allowed for the second day, where there was a strong crosswind blowing in which made for a challenge. - From the reports posted on Facebook, it looks like the western contests had much better weather. - There has been some concern regarding the proposed sequences and what will be adopted here in Advanced and Masters for the coming year; sequences for the next 2 years will not finalized until a recommendation is made by the Precision Aerobatics Committee and approved at the MAAC AGM in March. - The first F3P event will be November 18th in Cobourg. B. Executive Officer Reports Secretary Charlie Barrera - Members can begin paying 2018 dues on October 1, 2017; membership will be good through December 31, 2018 IV. Motions None V. Action Items 1. Present the Sequence committee with recommendations for the proposed sequences.

5 VI. Old Business A Proposed Sequences - The membership survey results were reviewed by the BoD - Several feedback items were discussed; many members feel that the maneuvers are getting too hard and they either don t have the time to learn them, nor practice them; many stated that they were not considering move up because there was not time to practice the new maneuvers - Also, because of the increased difficulty, new aircraft designs must be acquired in order to fly the proposed maneuvers; it was noted that the Sequence Development Guidelines dictate that current model designs or late model designs must be capable of flying the proposed maneuvers - The Masters proposed sequence garnered the most responses; the survey indicated that all the other proposed sequences seemed to be right for that class - Discussion of the proposed Masters pattern dominated the BoD discussion - Based on the survey results, the following maneuvers generated the highest number of responses: 1. ½ loop with integrated half roll 2. Knife Edge Flight with 1 ¼ roll in and out 3. Golf Ball with ¾ rolls and Knife Edge Loop 4. Two Slow Rolls, opposite, no hesitation 5. Loop with Integrated Roll in top The discussion focused on the apparent difficulty of the maneuver, as proposed; it was also noted that some proposed maneuvers similar to current maneuvers being flown now, had the same k factor, even though the proposed maneuver was clearly more difficult - The BoD makes the following recommendation to the Sequence Committee: 1. ½ Loop with Integrated Roll be replaced with Half Square Loop with 4 of 8 (or 2 of 4) roll in the vertical 2. Knife Edge Flight with 1 ¼ roll in and out be replaced with Knife Edge Flight with ¾ roll in and out 3. Golf Ball with ¾ rolls and Knife Edge Loop be replaced with Golf Ball with ½ rolls 4. Two Slow Rolls, opposite, no hesitation, be replaced with Two Slow Rolls, opposite 5. Loop with Integrated Roll in top 180 be replaced with Loop with 4 Point Roll in top 180

6 - Time line for publication of proposed sequences a. Finalize changes/sequence selection based on comments -- June through August year X - 1 b. Submit proposed changes/sequences to BoD for approval -- October year X - 1 c. Publish approved sequences on NSRCA website/k-factor -- November year X - 1 d. New sequences in use -- January Year X B. Membership Survey - The membership survey results will be published in the kfactor as soon as the data can be simplified for membership study - Over 3300 surveys were sent, to members and non-members alike; there are about 400 NSRCA members; over 350 responses were received VII. New Business A. Safety - We as a group tend to forget that the models that we fly can be dangerous and harm people and equipment - It is recommended that members be reminded about safely operating our models; this can be done by our respective DVP s mentioning safety in their articles for the kfactor - It is also suggested safety reminder notices be placed randomly in the kfactor; these can be designed as an added box and used as filler to complete page design - This is an example of a safety reminder: Safety First Remember to secure your model before starting/arming the motor

District Vice President Elections Meeting adjourned at 9:03 PM CDT - District Vice President elections for DVP begin in November, to serve a two year term - Any member wishing to represent their respective district, please submit your resume to your DVP by October 15, 2017; these resumes will be published in the November issue of the kfactor - Voting will begin in November, and close December 31, 2017; the votes will be tallied and the new DVP s will be announced in January
