1 5.3.4 Mar Tree Advisory Committee Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Tree Advisory Committee held on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10am, 5 Mill Street South, Port Hope, Ontario. Roll Call/Quorum: Present: Brian Alcock, Sue Stickley, Valerie Deziel, Councillor Greg Burns Staff: Trevor Clapperton Parks Recreation and Culture Absent with Regrets: Stu Linton, Dieter Franke, Karen Kynaston Works and Engineering, Peter Angelo Works and Engineering, Steve Baldock Works and Engineering Recording Secretary: April Day 1.0 Meeting called to order at 10:08am. 2.0 Delegations - none 3.0 Approval of Meeting Agenda February 10, 2012 TAC Moved by G. Burns. Seconded by B. Alcock. Be it resolved that the Tree Advisory Committee Agenda for February 10, 2012 be approved as presented. 4.0 Disclosure of Pecuniary Interest and the Nature Thereof None 5.0 Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes January 13, 2012 TAC Moved by B. Alcock. Seconded by V. Deziel. Be it resolved that the Tree Advisory Committee Minutes for January 13, 2012 be approved as presented. 6.0 Business Arising Action Items from Previous Minutes A) July Tree Diary Action Items WO Augusta. Status of Action D. Franke, review and report back at March meeting.

2 B) August Tree Diary Action Items WO Huffman Status of Action Staff update re: CFIA at March meeting. WO Ridout Status of Action Staff update TAC at March meeting. C) October Tree Diary Action Items WO Ontario Street Status of Action - S. Baldock team to remove in the spring (TAC request to remain on agenda until complete). D) November Tree Diary Action Items WO Ross Street Status of Action - S. Stickley to visit Registry Office with neighbour at Ross Street property and report back at March meeting. E) December Tree Diary Action Items WO Ridout Status of Action - S. Linton, update at March meeting. WO 105 Dorset Street West/Robertson Street Status of Action TAC visited tree; dead branches should be removed. TAC recommend tree pruning by Municipal staff. Tree should be staked Motion by B. Alcock. Seconded by V. Deziel. Be it resolved that the Tree Advisory Committee chooses not to remove the tree rather to have the tree pruned and the branch staked to become a new leader. F) January Tree Diary Action Items WO 1 29 Oxford Street Status of Action tree removal requested Motion by G. Burns. Seconded by V. Deziel. Be it resolved that the Tree Advisory Committee motioned to remove the tree at 29 Oxford Street as soon as possible. WO 2 30 Smith Street Status of Action deferred to March. S. Stickley will report back on pruning maintenance tree is hindering the wires. TAC request S. Baldock to refresh TAC on homeowner s issues pertaining to plumbing. G) Tree Master Plan Sub-Committee update. 1) Minutes February 3 rd Sub-Committee meeting attached.

3 Municipal Forest Master Plan new title of Tree Master Plan. Sub-Committee visited Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority Office February 13, GRCA package informative public information public awareness is key. TAC and GRCA sustainability of trees with ongoing maintenance. Sub-Committee to host stake holder meeting. Friday, February 24, 2012 Tree Advisory Committee Key Stakeholder Meeting. Pam Lancaster from GRCA to assist with arrangements. Public Awareness Municipality should be recognized for the commitment to tree preservation with the ongoing mission of Tree Advisory Committee. $8000 pre-approved for spring planning. $4000 waiting to be approved. Budget meeting, Tuesday, February 5pm. TAC discussed revisions to Vision Statement. G. Burns agreed to further review Municipal Forest Master Plan. Presentation of Master Plan outline to Committee of the Whole Council late March, early April. V. Deziel to prepare. A. Day to arrange and assist Motion by S. Stickley. Seconded by V. Deziel. The Tree Advisory Committee supports the Ganaraska River Watershed Plan s Terrestrial Natural Heritage objectives and encourages for continued refinement of the urban area (Ward 1) modeling of the forest habitat by the GRCA. Deziel requests K. Kynaston forward contact information and update pertaining to Canadian Food Inspection and the traps in Port Hope. S. Stickley requested Parks Recreation and Culture update the Tree Advisory Committee at the monthly meetings regarding PRC staff tree maintenance and planting plans. Councillor Greg Burns recommended Agenda amendments to the Tree Advisory Committee meetings. Reformat Agenda to permit Staff Updates after Delegations to maximize Staff time management. v) T. Clapperton Scouts request to perform spring tree planting in Port Hope. V. Deziel volunteered to oversee Scouts planting and offer proper planting instruction. T. Clapperton will keep TAC informed. vi) Bree Nixon, Environmental Advisory Committee, addressed B. Alcock regarding seedlings for EAC project. A. Day followed-up, redirected Bree to GRCA as per TAC request. Greg Burns excused himself from the meeting at 11:45am. 9.0 Next Meeting Friday, March 16, 10a.m., 5 Mill Street South, Port Hope.
