1 European Parliament Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs ECON_PV(2017) MINUTES Meeting of 25 January 2017, and BRUSSELS The meeting opened at 9:11 with Markus Ferber, provisional Chair, presiding 1. Election of the chair Roberto Gualtieri (S&D) was elected by acclamation following a proposal made by Pervenche Berès, S&D Coordinator. With the newly elected Chair The meeting continued with Roberto Gualtieri, Chair, presiding. 2. Election of the 1st vice-chair Before opening the procedure for the election of the 2nd Vice-Chair, the Chair informed Members that he had checked informally with the political groups as to the names of the candidates for the positions of 2nd, 3rd and 4th Vice-Chairs. Based on the information received from the political groups, the Chair said that, if the concerned candidates were to be elected, this would potentially infringe Rule 204(1) of the Rules of Procedure (gender and nationality balance in the Bureau). The Chair decided then to postpone the election procedure in order to allow political groups to find an appropriate solution. A brief exchange of views involving Roberto Gualtieri, Pervenche Berès, Burkhard Balz, Gerolf Annemans, and Marisa Matias took place after which the Chair suspended the election procedure.
