The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. On motion by David Hanson, second by Linda Daino, the Board voted 9 to 0 to adjourn immediately into Executive Session to discuss recommendations from the Committee on Special Education and the Committee on Preschool Special Education, and a matter of particular personnel. # Call to Order # Executive Session The Board returned to open session at 7:20 PM. On motion by Sylvia Place, second by Kim Myers, the Board voted 9 to 0 to approve the minutes of the April 7, 2015 meeting as written. # Approval of Minutes John Filip, 308 Magnolia Drive, Vestal, questioned the Board about resolution # # Public Comments on Agenda Items Student Government Representative Rachel Kosty reported: n/a Board President Michon Stuart reported: --Liaisons: the high school will have a meeting tomorrow about the Dina Jacobsen memorial; spring sports are off to a soggy start. The Junior Prom was held last weekend. The music festival, Vestifal, will be May 5. The Jump Rope for Health at Tioga Hills raised $10,000 for the America Heart Association. Fundraising for the Relay for Life Team Gabby include a coin drive. A spaghetti dinner at Glenwood will include raffle baskets. Julia Cook, traveling author, will visit African Road Elementary on May 4. Winterguard will do a presentation. The after school programs include French, science and they are looking into Mandarin. A talent show is June 12. Interim principal Al Penna was introduced at the high school parent group meeting. District administrators met with Town of Vestal representatives to tour office space on the third floor of Central Junior. The procedure committee met and discussed orientation of new Board members. Board member Kim Myers read a statement (attached to these minutes) and formally withdrew her petition to run for re-election to the Board. Board President Michon Stuart commented on the statement. --Four Odyssey of the Mind teams won at the state competition and will continue on to the world competition. --Discussions continue with Binghamton CSD on collaboration efforts. --End of year events were mentioned. # Reports Superintendent Mark LaRoach reported: --The Odyssey of the Mind teams were congratulated on their success. --Final days of instruction for all grade levels have been determined and the information will be disseminated. --Testing opt-out will affect some buildings by not meeting the AYP (annual yearly progress); approximately 12% of eligible students opted out of ELA tests this week and the figures are not finalized for math testing yet. --Board members received a trifold handout containing budget information for their use in answering questions. --Collaboration discussions continue with Binghamton, Union-Endicott and hopefully Maine-Endwell; not just instruction but enrichment as well.

This scholarship is to be privately funded and managed by the donor. On motion by Tony Turnbull, second by Linda Daino, the Board voted 8 to 0 to approve the following resolution: RESOLVED, that the Board of Education adopt the student attendance calendar, as attached, for the school year. On motion by Joan Miller, second by David Hanson, the Board voted 8 to 0 to approve the following resolution: RESOLVED, that John Crosby is designated to serve as trustee of the Broome-Tioga Board of Cooperative Educational Services; and be it RESOLVED, that David Hawley is designated to serve as trustee of the Broome-Tioga Board of Cooperative Educational Services. Recommendations and annual reviews of the Committee on Special Education and the Committee on Preschool Special Education were on the agenda. Board members had copies of the IEPs for each student made available to them prior to the meeting and had reviewed them. Board members gave due consideration to each case before voting. On motion by Tony Turnbull, second by Jerry Etingoff, the Board voted 9 to 0 to accept the recommendations and annual reviews of the Committee on Special Education and the Committee on Preschool Special Education for all students considered.
