2 Page 2 Brethren, This time of year, it seems natural for us to more often think of the welfare of our fellow man. With all of the disasters of recent, both natural and man-made, perhaps you ask yourself how you can help. The Scottish Rite, a number of years ago, created the Grand Almoner s Fund with the sole purpose of supporting our members in need. The accomplishments over the years have been extraordinary and often times life changing for those they have assisted. This past year alone, the Grand Almoner s Fund has assisted over 120 members and families in need. The need arises for any number of things, such as, illness and injury, loss of income, loss of home, and loss of employment, just to name a few. Most recently, the Grand Almoner s Fund is assisting many of the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas. I will aid and assist all worthy, distressed Brother Master Masons, their Widows and Orphans. In the Valley of Peoria, we also have a Distressed Bother Fund. This fund was created to assist our brethren. Most recently it has been used to help pay the dues of brothers who can no longer afford to maintain their membership in our fraternity. To donate to our Distressed Brother Fund, simply check the box on your dues notice, which will be coming out soon, and adding your donation to your dues payment. You may also donate directly by mailing a check to our office and noting Distressed Brother Fund on the memo line. Donations to the Grand Almoner s Fund* can be sent to Grand Almoner s Fund, PO Box 519, Lexington, MA , or online at We will strive to be a fraternity that fulfills its Masonic obligation to care for our members. 7 Page November Foundation News Have you made a legacy gift to the Scottish Rite Valley of Peoria? A legacy gift can be more than just money; think of the legacy you could leave with the Valley if you talked about our Masonic Fraternity to the men in your family and your circle of friends. Your monetary gifts help maintain our beautiful Cathedral for a few years, but the new members you bring into the Valley could help maintain our membership for generations to come. Have you talked about DeMolay, a Masonic organization for young men, to your sons? If you need information on the DeMolay, I suggest you contact Brother Charles Robinson, an officer of the Peoria Chapter of Rose Croix. You can also help your Valley with your monetary gifts. Some members contribute a small amount each month; some make an annual contribution with their dues payment, You would become a member of the Foundation when your contributions reach the $ level. Many families focus their attention on gift giving at certain special times of the year. Their gift list probably includes family members and friends. Just think of the benefit it would be to your Scottish Rite if you would consider including the Valley of Peoria in your gift list. Your small gifts add up, especially a gift of bringing your sons and other family members and friends into our Masonic Fraternity! A gift of new members could greatly help to maintain our Valley and our beautiful Cathedral! Page 8 Fides DeMolay News Flag football Weekend was held Saturday, September 30th to October 1st here in Peoria and everyone had an amazing time and those that came from around the state were

8 Page 8 Fides DeMolay News Flag football Weekend was held Saturday, September 30th to October 1st here in Peoria and everyone had an amazing time and those that came from around the state were impressed with the Cathedral and the event overall. There were 3 new DeMolay that were initiated on Saturday morning, 1 of which was for Fides, followed by lunch. After lunch, the flag football tournament began at Donovan Park then back to the Cathedral for dinner. The tournament wrapped on Sunday with awards and trophies presented at the park. On Sunday, October 15th the Peoria Area Preceptory hosted DeMolay Honors Day. Mom Karen Sadler-Robertson was honored with the Cross of Honor, which is the highest honor awarded to a DeMolay Advisor. Brothers Nick Graff and Charles Robertson received the Honorary Legion of Honor for their leadership and service. DeMolays Jacob Haig and Greggor Mast received their Representative DeMolay Award as well. November 1st starts the annual Kanes for Kiddies Fundraiser, where DeMolay raises money for the Shriner s Children s Hospital. Please see or contact any Fides DeMolay member or advisor if you would like to make a donation to Kanes for Kiddies. The annual Chevalier Observance will be Wednesday, November 8th. Please contact Mom Sadler-Robertson for more information on the time and location for the observance The weekend of Nov the Chapter will be attending Wizard s Weekend in Sullivan, IL. Stated meetings will be November 5th and December 3rd starting at 4 PM at the Cathedral. All Scottish Rite members are welcome to attend.
