Sulphur, LA Convention Theme - Daughter of a King We were so excited to send out the First Call to Convention! We can t wait to see everyone at the 2019 State Convention. It will be great to see old friends and make new ones. It is our time to come together and celebrate the past two years. Included in this Second Call to Convention is information and attachments which should be read very carefully. All enclosed forms should be completed and mailed with your Court s check prior to the deadlines. Breakout Sessions Thursday, March 28, 2019 Worshiping Together Evening of Reflection-Thursday, March 28, 2019 We will gather as sisters in Christ on Thursday, March 28, at the Event Center. Our speaker is Katie Prejean. She is a dynamic and engaging Catholic speaker & author with a passion for sharing the faith. Katie has spoken at events large & small, including Steubenville Youth Conferences, the National Conference for Catholic Youth Ministry, the National Catholic Youth Conference, Los Angeles Religious Education Congress & Youth Day, in dioceses & parishes from coast to coast, and has appeared on EWTN, Catholic TV, and Radio Maria. We think you will love her. Learn about her at her blog, A special surprise will follow Katie. All are invited at no cost. Opening Mass-Friday, March 29, 2019 The Opening Mass, celebrated by the Most Reverend Glen John Provost, Bishop of Lake Charles, will be held at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. The Church is less than five miles away. Bus transportation will not be available. This Robed Mass is one of the most beautiful and most impressive events of the Convention, so, all Officers and District Deputies are requested to observe proper robe protocol. Robe protocol will be enforced. We are sorry but you will be removed from line if you do not follow robe protocol. Regents, please share this information with your other officers. Robes must be clean and pressed and must measure eleven (11) inches from the floor when wearing white shoes. Only stud earrings are worn with robes, and nothing is carried in procession including purses and cameras. Slacks or capris must not be worn with robes. Collars and necklines must not show above robe. Chapel Veils may not be worn. Robes are only worn in procession; please carry robes before and after Mass. This is the only Mass that local Court Officers will wear their robes.
2 Memorial Mass-Saturday, March 30, 2019 This Mass, celebrated by Reverend Edward Richard, our State Chaplain, will be celebrated at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church, is a time when we remember members and/or Chaplains who have died during the period of March 1, 2017, through January 31, Enclosed is a form to list those to be included in the Convention book. It must be completed and mailed to State Secretary, Margaret Comeaux, 215 Public Road, Rayne, LA by February 1, Installation Mass-Sunday, March 31, 2019 The newly elected State Officers will be installed at this Mass, which will be held at the Event Center at 9:00 AM. There will be a reception to greet and congratulate the new State Officers for The reception will be hosted by the area JCDA Courts and the State Court. There is no charge. Registration Postmarked by December 31, $ Postmarked after December 31, $ Deadline to return registration packet and payment is February 1, No registration fee for chaplains or for anyone attending only the night of reflection, religious services and/or socials. Meal Cost Official Convention meals and their respective costs are: Clergy Luncheon--$25.00 per Chaplain. Friday Night Social $30.00 per person Saturday Leadership Breakfast $25.00 per person(regents, PSR s, State Chairmen and DD s only) Saturday Convention Banquet $35.00 per person Reception after Installation Mass on Sunday Cookies and Punch sponsored by area JCDA Courts, with pastries and fruit sponsored by the State Court. No cost! All other meals will be at your expense. All hotels offer free breakfasts. Food trucks will be available for lunch. You could also order a pizza to be delivered for your Court members. Mail the completed form along with your payment (Court check) made payable to LA State CDA to: Karen Fills, Registration Chairman, 1513 Anita Street, Sulphur, LA Please write in the memo: registration fees and meal tickets.
3 Hotel Reservations Convention hotels are listed below. Reservations must be made directly with the hotels on or before February 28, Ask for reservations and tell them it is for the Catholic Daughters Convention on March so you can get the Convention rates. Wingate $99 + tax per night, free breakfast, (337) Baymont $ tax per night, free breakfast, (337) Holiday Inn $ tax per night, free breakfast for 3 people per room, (337) Fairfield Inn and Suites - $119-$129, free breakfast, (337) Business Sessions Business sessions of the registered members will be held on Friday and Saturday. Voting for Officers and the Nominating Committee will be held on Saturday. Only registered delegates will be allowed in the Convention Hall during election of State Officers and the Nominating Committee. Dress Code for business sessions is business casual. No blue jeans, shorts or sun dresses allowed. Delegates/alternates Each Court regent will receive a delegate sheet from the National Office along with instructions for electing the number of delegates and alternates to which the Court is entitled. Courts must elect delegates to the Convention in time to send the delegate list to the State Regent by December 1, Please read the National Convention mailing carefully to ensure that your Court has the proper representation at the state Convention. Courts are allowed one (1) delegate, the regent, if she attends, and an additional delegate for each twenty-five members or major fraction thereof. Delegates and alternates are elected, not appointed. It is wise to elect all the delegates and alternates to which your Court is entitled, even if it appears that they cannot attend the Convention. Sometimes delegates/alternates are able to attend after all and only those listed on the form will be allowed. No delegate sheets will be accepted after February 1, Please note: If there is a District Deputy or State Chairman in your Court, they are not automatic delegates/alternates; they too, need to be elected. Candidates for State Office Anyone wishing to be considered as a candidate for state office by the nominating committee must submit her name by February 1, All positions are open for nomination. Candidates must submit five (5) copies each of the following: a statement of qualifications, a statement of endorsement from your local Court (signed by a majority of Court Officers), a current picture, and a consent to serve statement signed by the candidate. 4 Bylaw Amendments Local Courts may submit proposed amendments to the CDA Bylaws at the State Convention. Any proposed bylaw amendments approved at the state Convention must be sent to the National By-law Committee for final presentation at the 2020 National Convention. Criteria for writing and submitting a by-law for consideration is outlined in Section 3, page 9-12 Tools of the Trade Second Edition Manual. Local Courts must vote on a proposed bylaw amendment at a local Court meeting. Submit proposed bylaw amendments to Second Vice State Regent Pam Melancon, 9325 Jeff Street, Gonzales, LA, 70737, by February 1, Resolutions Local Courts may submit proposed resolutions. Any resolutions passed at the state Convention that do not pertain solely to the state of Louisiana will also be sent to the chairman of the National Resolutions Committee for consideration. Criteria for writing and submitting a resolution for consideration is outlined in Section 3, page 9-12 Tools of the Trade Second Edition Manual. Resolutions proposed by a local Court must be approved by a vote of the members at a regular meeting and sent to Second Vice State Regent Pam Melancon, 9325 Jeff Street, Gonzales, LA, 70737, by February 1, Friday Night Social The theme for the night is You are the Daughter of a King, so bring on your Bling. Come dressed as royalty with everything shinning! Purchase a meal ticket for Friday Night Social and plan to attend. Any member/guest may attend this function with the purchase of a meal ticket. Convention Booklet Sponsors Ads Each Court is asked to be a Convention booklet sponsor and purchase an ad. There are various sizes: full page, half page, fourth page or eighth page. Individual members are also invited to be a sponsor. Convention Sponsor Ads can also be sold to commercial businesses. If your Court or Court members do business in your area with local merchants, ask them to sponsor an ad! Many people read these ads and this may increase their business. There is also a form for line sponsors. The names of all the sponsors will be printed in our Convention booklet. The proceeds will help defray the cost of the printing for the Convention. Individual members wanting to be a sponsor should pay their local Court, and the local Court will issue one payment (court check) for all. Mail the completed form along with your payment (court check) made payable to LA State CDA to Joyce Stein, Paul Stein Street, Vacherie, LA by February 1, Please write in the memo: Sponsor Ad. Raffle Baskets The basic concept is that you purchase as many raffle tickets as you would like at Convention and deposit them into the designated container in front of the item you would like to win. Of course, you increase your chance of winning by depositing more tickets on that one specific item you would like to win. At the conclusion, a winning ticket is drawn for each item. We ask that each Court donate an item valued from $30.00 to $ Please send a description of your donated item, as well as, the value of it to: State Secretary, Margaret Comeaux, and 215 Public Road, Rayne, LA, 70578, by February 15, The raffle item is to be turned in at the Convention by noon on Friday, March 29, The proceeds from this raffle will benefit our Project Rainbow.
5 Split Pot-50/50 Come prepared with your mad money so that you can participate in these activities. There will be several drawings. The proceeds from split pot will benefit our Seminary Fund. Seminary Fund Any amount your Court would like to contribute to the Seminary Fund is accepted any time during the year. Submit your contributions by December 31, 2018 to be included in the listing in which your bishop receives with the donation to your diocese for The State Court also makes a contribution of $ in each diocese. Send your contribution to: State Secretary Margaret Comeaux, 215 Public Road, Rayne, LA, Candidate Table All candidates running for State Officer and the 2021 Nominating Committee will have a reserved table for Campaign Night. Everyone is invited to visit with the candidates from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM on Friday evening. Guide for the Deadlines Many details go into the successful planning and execution of a Convention. I urge each Court to follow the deadlines listed on the various forms. In order to assist you, I am enclosing a list of the deadlines for all required documents or requested items. You can use it as a check-off list. Donation Form Please complete the donation form in this packet by listing all of your charitable contributions from January 2018 to December 31, Goal for Convention Our goal for Convention is to gather 500 Catholic women together to worship our Lord, complete the business of our Order while having fun and fellowship. We want all to leave with a renewed spirit of commitment to service and a renewed appreciation for the gift of CDA sisterhood!
