MYSTERY EDITOR - Sep 1 President MARIANNE FREITAS called the meeting to order at high noon. Ernie Smith was remembered by DAN GUARE and SID HIRSCH. He was a fabulous person, he originated the Rowdy Table, and we closed his commemoration with an uproarious WOW!! His wife and son were able to attend the meeting with us. JOHN LEWIS offered the prayer, and MARY MARTIN led us in the Pledge and Song "America" with GARY GETHMANN on the ivories. Guests and Visiting Rotarians were introduced by MATT BLAIR in the absence of JESSE THORPE. JACK BRADDOCK received Birthday Honors, and some members drank to his health and occupation at 11:30. "This BUD's for you!" RICK RUPKEY gave us a Membership Moment, and Announcements were made for: The Car Show by BOB SHAFF, JOHN LEWIS and noted photographer, Guy Atchley, Home Hospitality by BILL COZINE, and the San Carlos Christmas Trip by LARRY PETH. PAT LENNAN introduced new member, LEE AITKEN, who promised to get involved immediately. ANNE SEGAL shared memories of her trip with her daughter to Guatemala and praised Rotary International for their work there. Sergeant at Arms, PAT LENNAN, roasted more than his usual superb barbecue with many saucey charges and comments.

Manjarrez, Jr., of the Tucson Border Patrol Sector, who informed us of the significant drop in undocumented immigrants in the region in recent years. President Marianne adjourned us with a well-bred toast. Great Rotary Programs - Border Patrol by James Ronstadt Chief Patrol agent Victor Manjarrez addressed the Club in September. He has over 20 years of distinguished service to the U.S. Border Patrol. He provided facts about the border process, in opposition to what has been reported by the press. Chief Manjarrez directs over 3,500 employees and oversees the enforcement of 262 miles of Arizona/Mexico border. EL TOUR DE TUCSON NEWS by Gary Hirsch You can now earn points that count toward your next Paul Harris Fellowship by participating in the 2010 El Tour de Tucson to benefit Polio Plus. Every point is counted as if it were a dollar. Register to ride in El Tour before September 17 by going to and downloading the special Polio Plus El Tour registration form and earn 200 points. Recruit a non-rcot rider and earn 200 points for each rider registered (or credit those points toward a PHF for that rider). Target any donation you make of $100 or more (birthdays, fines, etc.) for El Tour Polio Plus and the club will match that donation 1 point for each dollar. Sponsor an RCOT El Tour rider for at least $100 and, you guessed it, earn a point for every dollar you donate. Note that all donations must be made prior to November 1 in order to be matched by the club. If you are a cyclist riding in El Tour or not, we are very excited to be offering Rotary/Polio Plus cycling jerseys and shorts. We will take orders only until September 18 because of the time it takes for production. If you're not a cyclist, it's a great gift to give someone who is. Watch your for ordering instructions and check out the photo of the jersey. The shorts will match and a complete set will cost about $120, which is very competitive. Shutter business with Guy Atchley by Bob Shaff That's Guy Atchley -- longtime primary anchor for KGUN 9 News shooting photos and a news story to inform the community about the Tucson Classics Car Show and the local projects that will benefit. Guy is an accomplished photographer, as you'll see when you visit his website Beautiful photos! Organized by BOB SHAFF, the photo shoot took place on the beautiful, green grass of St. Gregs last Saturday afternoon and finished just as the first raindrops started to fall. We had 12 Classic Cars from RCOT members and friends for the photo shoot, including cars of members HAL ADAMSON, MIKE ANDERSON, and GEORGE LARSEN. Past President, SCOTT VAUGHAN, was seen shadowing Guy, taking photo shots of his own. Guy took over 1,000 pictures and recorded an interview with President MARIANNE for KGUN 9 viewers. Watch KGUN 9 TV News to see the debut of the finished product! Thank you Guy! Ticket Business by Bob Shaff

3 GARY HIRSH'S and DARRELL STEWART'S ticket sales teams went to the Tucson Toros games on Thursday and Friday to sell Car Show Tickets. Way to go, Gary and Darrell!!
