5 Awards Submission Small Club One area that we can improve upon is our presence in the public print. We do have a facebook page and produce a weekly newsletter but we seem to be a bit shy to contact the media when we are doing our great projects. We do have club logo shirts that we wear in casual settings but this year we added a Rotarians At Work shirt to help the community recognize who is out there working.

7 Public Relations Award Narrative Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise Our club newsletter The Coffee Press which has won awards in the past, continues to be one of the strengths of our public relations. Weekly articles include who the speaker will be; news from the District and Rotary International; updates on the various projects that are planned or have taken place; and other pertinent information for that week. Our club President does a monthly Presidents Corner, and the RI President s monthly report is also included. The newsletter is ed to well over 200 individuals throughout the world in places such as Taiwan, Canada, Australia and the US Mainland. We have a website which is updated on a regular basis, as well as a Facebook Page that is posted too as often as possible. Many of our members use their own Facebook pages to promote Rotary events and news as well. We have a Linkedin account under the name of our President Elect. We have a great relationship with our local newspaper, West Hawai i Today. On either Sunday or Monday they publish who the upcoming speakers are going to be at all West Hawai i Clubs. We often will have one of their reporters attend a meeting, which has resulted in coverage in the paper of at least two of our projects this year. We also have well established relationships with other Non-Profits in the community who we partner with as a way to promote Rotary. One of note is a Christmas project, where we partner with Friends of the Children of West Hawai i to provide gifts for all the children at the Domestic Abuse Shelter. The Friends highlight s Rotary s contributions through their website and social media. Our Community Service projects have been highlighted on Oceanic Time Warner Cable TV stations. This includes Rotary s Kailua-Kona Community Christmas Parade and the Menehune Holiday Food Drive, now in its third year. These projects are supported by radio stations as well. Our fundraisers, which this year included an Oktoberfest and a Raining Cats & Dogs Blast are supported by newsprint, websites, FaceBook, and most especially radio PSAs. The Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise recognizes the efforts of the media outlets to support our supporting the community, and as such gave a recognition plaque to Tracey Fosso, Publisher of West Hawaii Today.

9 ROTARY DISTRICT 5000, Hawaii Awards Submissions Form NARRATIVE FOR PUBLIC IMAGE AWARD by Rotary Club of Wahiawa-Waialua The Rotary Club of Wahiawa-Waialua has had numerous meetings when we have practiced our Elevator Speeches, shared why we joined Rotary and why we stay (even before the New Focus program), and why it was important to wear our Rotary pin. The purpose was both to encourage members and friends to talk about Rotary, and to share the Rotary programs and benefit to each person and to the community. We have had a lot of success both in increased membership and in member enthusiasm as we have learned in this way. We have sent news releases to the media for our Rock and Roll Fundraiser, and for our Golf Tournament. We have not had much response, but will redouble our efforts in the net Rotary year. We do believe that we have one of the best newsletters in Hawaii. Member and PP Geoff Horvath sends it by each week without fail, and includes not only our scheduled meetings and events, but many pictures of our meetings, programs, guests and members, and also includes information about Rotary. It is always informative and fun to read, and it is a special treat to see our Rotary eperience in the pictures. He has submitted the newsletter for an award, which we believe would be well deserved. Again, we have not done everything on the award list, but we are doing much more than we have for the past several years, and as president I would like to encourage our club members with the recognition this award would bring. Respectfully submitted, Fran Wiebenga, President

14 Public Image Our club has consistently maintained a lively, current clubrunner webpage, club Facebook page and Twitter account. Pages are updated at least weekly and are frequently used to communicate with community and club members. Pictures of meetings, projects and activities are posted almost immediately after they take place. We have had captioned pictures of students of the month regularly published in The Tribune Herald Newspaper. This is thanks largely to our Publicity Chair who regularly sends items and has established an report with the paper. Rotary district shirts and club work shirts are worn regularly at community events and club events. Our club has very little to spend on publicity so we tend to use free media. We have one sponsor who generously supports the cost of our website presence. Most club projects and events have been entered on Rotary Showcase by President. We also participate in several community events to raise public awareness of our Rotary Club and its programs. We sponsor an aid station in the Rainforest Run in Volcano, we have an entry in the Pahoa Christmas Parade, as well as, The Merrie Monarch Parade. Our club also is a member of the group Mainstreet Pahoa, which basically serves as an unofficial Chamber of Commerce for our community.
