San Jacinto College will meet, commencing at 12:30 on Thursday October 22, 2015 in room 1111 SLDP SJC and 1007 SLDPMVC. The starting time listed for the meeting is approximate. Public testimony will be invited in conjunction with discussion on each item. Purpose The purpose of the is to provide a student organization through which students may have the means of some determination in the activities and affairs of their college life. Objectives shall be as follows: To represent student interests, rights, and concerns; To stimulate student awareness of and involvement in the many academic, cultural, social, and community opportunities available at MSJC; To promote student awareness and appreciation of the values and traditions of the college; To enhance communication/cooperation between all segments of the campus community; To organize, finance, and budget student activities and programs through a fair and representative process. Approval of Judicial Nominations: Tyler Motion Danielle Second A. Judicial Branch Anthony Raya for Justice (Nominated by SGA President)
3 Anthony needs further time to consider position and tables this item to next agenda. II. Public Comment: This time is reserved for members of the public to address the Student Government Association on issues not already appearing on the agenda. A limit of 5 minutes per speaker and 20 minutes per topic shall be enforced. Anthony comments on T-shirt polo design, and suggests new logo for shirts. III. 4 Item 1 & 2 was PASSED. VI. Discussion/Action Items (the following items may be discussed and voted on at this time) Deshawna Motion Carlotta Second A. Food Bank proposal- Brenda Maya Royce Motion Danielle Second Brenda requests support from SGA. Volunteers will be needed Monday-Friday on both campuses. Anthony informs the body about the food bank at RCC and how it operates in regards to staffing. Item was PASSED. B. SGA name change-tyler Mendel Tyler Motion Danielle Second Tyler would like to change the name of SGA to SGA squared because we are exponentially better than we were before. Sandi informs the body that any name change will require a large amount of funds. Evelyn inquires whether the name change is even necessary. Item was not PASSED. C. 600 meals for Spring Welcome Back BBQ s Not to exceed-$3,000 MVC January 26 th SJC January 28 th Deshawna Motion Carlotta Second Item was PASSED. D. SGA Retreat breakfast and lunch Jan 11, 2016 Room 200 NTE $ Evelyn Motion Danielle Second Item was PASSED. E. Hosting Region IX meeting March Date TBD Tyler Motion Carlotta Second Sandi asks body if they would be interested in hosting a Region 9 meeting at MSJC. The meetings are typically on Fridays and open to the public. Cory thinks it would be beneficial as long as it does not affect our budget. Item was PASSED. F. Lunch for Region IX meeting NTE-$500 Tyler Motion Danielle Second PASSED G. Jerry Sirotnak- Region IX Representative to train SGA Roberts Rules Tyler Motion Danielle Second Tyler thinks Jerry is not credible. Also, Jasmin says that Jerry is not an official parliamentarian. H. Measure AA Oversite Questions-Jasmin Rubio Tyler Motion Carlotta Second Brenda addresses Jasmin s questions regarding Measure AA. Brenda says that the board has the ability to hire district employees on bonds. Jasmine responds by saying that there is no clear clarification of the district employees that were hired. Brenda directs her to the webpage that has all of the information regarding measure AA. Board Reports and Information Items (all reports are to be limited to one minute each, additional time can be allotted with a motion and second from the Senate) A. Advisor s Report The body will send out thank you cards to all supporters during homecoming week. Birthday celebration and potluck will be held on Nov 19 th at both campuses and Dec 17 th at San Jacinto Campus. Some SGA members must provide proof of their stickers immediately. SGA senators and up will receive priority registration for next semester. B. Executive Officers Reports- Estimation of SGA Budget as of 10/22/15 15,000 to date
