A Functional Utopia by Oscar Reyes, Veronica Hernandez, Da Shinique Holland, Mikey Pon

Our Definition Of Equality Equality: People having the same amount of power over each other. Not having more and not having less. We Are All In This Together.

Who is Responsible to Create Equality and Why We feel that it is the responsibility of the people to create and maintain the equality that they built. We are all the same and we should not look at each other differently.

1. No Higher Power Everyone shares power. Everyone is equal at age 15 and up.

Evidence: Russian Revolution Cause: Stalin had all the power and became fascist instead of communist. Effect: People starved because of collectivization (Stalin collected all food from farm workers to sort of unite farms but then all food started to go to government) year :1928

Animal Farm Evidence Cause: Napoleon takes all power from the animals and gives it to himself and the other pigs. Effect: They abuse the power that took and use it against the animals. Orwell, pg

Nation X Evidence Cause: Jay has all the power and becomes corrupt. Effect: People want to kill him 46:06

2. Everyone works the same amount, gets the same pay, and the pay the same amount of taxes Only reason to not work if for physical disabilities Kids under 15 can t work, 60 and older have a choice to work.

Russian Revolution Evidence Cause: Some people worked less and took advantage of the other workers hat were working harder. Effect: They became corrupt and starve workers which isn t equal s

Animal Farm Evidence Cause: Boxer got injured during battle of the wind mill. Effect: Boxer was forced to work, then couldn t work and was sent to the knacker. Orwell 123

Nation X Evidence Cause: We changed laws in Nation X so that everyone worked the same amount and payed the same amount as everyone else. Effect: It became more fair than before. 51:30

3. Everyone has say in a decision in what happens in their community and taxes No makes decisions for the community Every should be able to say what they want to happen with the taxes and other important changes that might happen in their community

Animal Farm Evidence Cause: Napolean starves the animals and makes them work hard Effect: this isn t what the animals expected when they rebelled. Orwell, Pg.136

Russian Revolution Evidence Cause: Stalin started to with hold food from the workers and made them work harder then ever. Effect: People starved, died, and the people voices weren t heard 1920 s

Nation X Evidence Cause: Jay made decisions that only benefited him and his friends. Effect: Things became more unequal and better for him. 46:06

4. Everyone should be educated People should know what they are talking about when they speak out against something.

Russian Revolution Evidence Cause: The nobility and the capitalist were more educated than the serf. Effect: The nobility had more power over the serfs. year:1897

Animal Farm Evidence Cause: Napolean and the pigs were more educated than the rest of the animals because they could read and the animals couldn t. Effect: the pigs thought they were better and had more power over the other animals. Orwell, page 49

5. Don t waste. Reuse. Don t waste anything. Not lives, time or materials. You should be able to reuse things that have already been used.

Russian Revolution Evidence Cause: Millions of people died due to collectivization. Effect: People s lives and their abilities were wasted. 1920

Animal Farm Evidence Cause: Napolean tells animals to build another windmill even though the others were destroyed. Effect: Time was wasted when it could have been used to work on the farm instead. Orwell, page 133

6. Tell the truth but you can stay silent lying makes thing more complicated. lying indicates that you think you are better than other.

Russian Revolution Evidence Cause: Stalin made everyone believe that he was good when he really wasn t Effect: Everyone believed he was good and they were more willing to follow him 1936

Animal Farm Evidence Cause: the pigs broke all the rules. Effect: the pigs lied and the animals were still willing to follow the pigs. Orwell, page 133

7. Everyone Should Have a Chance to Start Over People make mistakes but it shouldn t cost their life. If they make a mistake they should be able to build their trust back.

Russian Revolution Evidence Cause: Trotsky got exiled from Russia. Effect: he got killed but he should have gotten a second chance

Animal Farm Evidence Cause: Snowball got kicked out of Animal Farm. Effect: He got killed but should have gotten a second chance. Orwell, page 67-68

Nation X Evidence Cause: Da Shinique got a life sentence in jail and got a second chance. Effect: Did better and stayed out of jail. 46:06

Deep slide #2 Perfect rules are only a step forward in reaching full equality. What is really needed is the dedication of the people, so that people can really be equal to one another.

Deep Slide #3 People all have very different ideas of what equality is. People are also greedy and selfish or might be to scared to speak up. This may complicate the ultimate goal of equality.
