3 DESCANSO GARDENS and PICNIC DINNER CONCERT, La Canada - Flintridge Viewing of Gardens: The State of California has ordered a severe reduction in water consumption as of July 1, Descanso's new Central Circle garden demonstrates colorful, leafy, water-wise landscaping without the usual rocks and cacti garden. There are many other gardens to view and cool places to sit. Concert: At 6:00, we will hear a concert by Betty Bryant. She uses the piano and her voice to give us light, swing music. We can sit on the lawn and eat our picnic dinners during the concert. Be sure to bring the following: A picnic dinner in a small cooler (The food will stay on the bus until dinnertime.) A folding chair or blanket to sit on during our picnic dinner and the concert Accessibility: A limited number of wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis for guest use at the Visitor s Center. Many of Descanso s asphalt pathways are wheelchair accessible. Participants must be able to board the bus by themselves. Please, OLLI members only. 5 NORTON SIMON MUSEUM, PASADENA The Norton Simon Museum is known for its outstanding collections of European Art from the Renaissance onward, Asian Art from the last 2,000 years, and Modern Art. In addition to the extensive collections, there will be two special exhibits on display: Fragonard s Enterprise: The Artist and the Literature of Travel and A Revolution of the Palette: The First Synthetic Blues and their Impact on French Artists. First, we will have a one hour docent-led tour covering the European and Asian collections. Hearing headsets will be available. Then we will explore the galleries on our own, having an intimate experience with the art for an hour before the Museum opens to the public at noon. At noon, we will enjoy box lunches in the Museum s Garden Café. Order your choice of sandwich or main dish salad below. Lunches also include a garden salad, water and a cookie. After lunch, we will have an additional hour to explore the Museum and its Sculpture Garden. Please, OLLI members only. If the event is not full by the deadline, non-member guests are welcome.
