Please visit: for the most up to date roster. 6 th Aug 2016 Reports this week by: Peter 6 August - Sue and Peter arrived at EPIC to discover Chilli hard at work putting up the stall by himself. Bruce turned up and we had the Rotary information stall up very quickly. Many stallholders were away. The Bombolino Donut stall (Stall 1) was very popular but by the time I got there it had sold out, packed up and gone. Only three stalls had rented tables, Boxgum Grazing, Dream Cuisine and Dom s Bread. One silly person on the gate (not Sue or Chilli) refused entry to the Market Manager. Oh dear!!! I did have my dark glasses on. I had a great chat with the owner of Kurrajong Meats. He was wearing a footy top with Wellington (NSW) on it. We talked about our experiences there. I told him my Volkswagen motor seized just outside Wellington in After the NRMA towed it into the VW dealership Sue and I hitched a ride to Bathurst with a family with a very noisy baby. And two more kids. No seat belts in those days. No lost children, wallets, shopping bags etc. We did have one bag on display, a very expensive looking shopping bag on wheels which was handed in a few weeks ago full of a certain type of vegetable. It had to be cleaned out and dried and was on display but no-one claimed it. We wondered why anyone would buy that many of that particular vegetable. Maybe the bag belonged to an ex WW2 night fighter pilot. Ask Sue, Chilli or myself at the next meeting what was in it so you can make sure it goes to the right person. Inventory: Water 19 bottles left Green bags 1 full box at least Red Bags Unsure Cook Books About 5 Tally Sheets OK NOTE: Last Saturday market is on 17 th Dec with an afternoon market on 22 December. There is then a break until January 14 th! Yippee! 7 WHO AM I? At age 5 his Father died. At age 16 he quit school. At age 17 he had already lost 4 jobs. Between ages 18 & 22, he was a railroad conductor & failed. He joined the army & washed out there. He applied for law school he was rejected. He became an insurance sales man & failed. At age 20 his wife left him He became a cook & dishwasher in a small cafe. At age 65 he retired. Decided to commit suicide, he had failed so much. But, he realized still one thing he could do better than anyone "cooking". He borrowed $87, bought & fried up chicken using his recipe, went door to door to sell them in Kentucky. At age 88 Colonel Sanders, founder of KFC was a billionaire. Interested? To free the world s 46 million slaves could cost $15 billion. Is it a big number? It s what the USA spends on crisps and pretzels each year! Much can be achieved through preventative programmes, many addressed by Rotary s Areas of Focus. Rotary s Areas of Focus Helping to end Modern Slavery Just One+ promotes Rotary International s Areas of Focus projects in support of, and helping to bring an end to modern slavery, and those trafficked into it. Bill Lilley, John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll of mentoring the development of the new club. (Peter Jarvis went on to become our Charter President). Advertising for potential members began in March After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on 18 November 1998 with 26 members. Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Store the venue was very good until we grew in numbers. We then moved to the Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years, and we now meet at the Jerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for 6.30 pm). (Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club Newsletter and a design for the Club banner. There were some good and some not so good suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name Jerraganda and David Stevens was the successful designer of our club banner. The design incorporated a goose and the windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate adjacent to the Community Centre. Both the Jerraganda and the Club logo have evolved to keep pace with modern times. We have always been, and continue to be, a vibrant and fun loving club providing valued community service, both locally and internationally. Our motto is, Doing Good and Having Fun 8
